the host, peacefully listening to music from their favorite show:
*new fictive arrives*
primarily protector who doesn’t like the character:
-jason (he/him)
me @ me: i feel like pure shit and there’s no one to help me i’m all alone fuck i want to die
someone: hey do u need help?
me: oh god no, wbu? u ok? Do u need something? please talk to me, u sure u ok?
anyone else have dreams that other alters are in? it’s so fucking cool i love them sm
-sock, host (they/them)
being a system is all fun and games until the host has a breakdown and you have to front so they can calm down in headspace
-jason, primary protector (he/him)
someone: *accidentally hurts the host*
avengers and persecutors: now this looks like a job for me.
-sock, host (they/them)
the host a few weeks ago, feeling fem sometimes but not all the time: maybe i’m just genderfluid?
fem alters in our system who fronted that day: ...surprise, shawty!
-cassie, fictive/caretaker (she/her)
Every System is Different
Some will have 5 alters
Some will have 100 or more
Some can directly communicate with their alters
Some can’t communicate with each other at all
Some will have fictives
Some will have factives
Every system is different
You’re not faking it
I’ve been seeing posts like these on Instagram for other misunderstood mental illnesses, so I thought I’d have a go at making one myself.
I think that one of the most frustrating misconceptions about DID is that it is just about having alters or “multiple personalities” as some laypeople see it.
Alters are just one part of Dissociative Identity Disorder.
The information above is paraphrased and simplified from the book Coping with Trauma-Related Dissociation by by Kathy Steele, Onno van der Hart, and Suzette Boon.
The majority of the information above also applies to people with OSDD, since they have many of the same symptoms and experiences as people with DID.
[ Note: I’m not a mental health professional or educator. I’m just a person living with DID. This post is not intended to diagnose anyone. Please speak to a mental health professional if you need help. ]
some of you have never been in a certain paralyzing state of terror when your parent is furious because any wrong move might send them over the edge and result in pain and it shows
the paranoid host, still in denial:
me literally taking control: ??
