Am I DTF? Yeah bro. Doomed to fail
Y'all ever open a book on a new subject, read a little bit, and have to put it back so you can process the way in which your mind was just expanded?
The textile book: okay here is some of the ways that textiles are important to human life
me: Okay!
The textile book: Clothes separate the vulnerable human body from the conditions of the outside world, and in doing so absorb the sweat and debris of human existence, accumulating wear and tear according to the lives we live. In this way, various lifestyles and professions are represented by clothing, and the clothing of a loved one retains the imprint of their physical body and their life being lived, as though the clothes absorb part of the wearer's soul
Me: ...oh
The textile book: The process of weaving a garment and the process of a child being formed in its mother's womb are often referred to using the same language. Likewise, when a baby is born, a blanket or other textile material is the first material object it encounters and protects it. Textiles can create the idea of two things being inextricable, as with being "woven together," or can create the sense of separateness, as with a curtain or veil that separates two rooms or spaces, even separating the living from the dead, or separating two realities, such as a performance ending when the curtain falls
Me: ...oh God
The textile book: Odysseus's wife Penelope undid her weaving in secret every night to delay the advances of her suitors. In this way she was able to turn back the passage of time to allow her husband to come home. Likewise the Lakota tell a story of an old woman embroidering time by embroidering a robe with porcupine quills. If she finishes the embroidery, the world will come to an end, but her faithful dog pulls out the quills whenever her back is turned, turning back the clock and allowing existence to continue.
me: ...is...is...is that why we refer to the fabric of space and time?
The textile book: The technological revolution of textile making is sadly underappreciated. The textile arts are possibly the most fundamental human technology, as once people created string and rope, they could create nets for catching fish and small animals, and bags and baskets for carrying food. In the earliest prehistoric times, the first string or cord perhaps came from sinew, found in the body of an animal. Because of this perhaps the body of a living being could be understood as made of a textile material. Indeed textiles have the function of preserving life, as with a surgeon stitching back together the human body or bandages being placed on a wound. Textile technologies are being used to create life-changing implants to restore function to injured parts of the body, as though a muscle or tendon can be woven and made in this way. Cloth can be used to create a parachute that will save a human's life as they plummet out of the sky. Ultimately, the textile technologies are used to enter new parts of the universe. Me: STOP!! MY MIND IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH FOR THIS
fell for the oldest trick in the book
i like oceanic aesthetics but specifically deep ocean stuff like bioluminescence and fanged needle teeth like jagged slivers of glass and flat black shining eyes designed to navigate the depths and iridescent green-blue-purple-silver spiked fins and scales. seamonstercore or whatever.

the thing about "callout/cancel culture" that convinced me it's rotten to the core is the dehumanisation you face once you become the subject of a campaign like that. a lot of criticisms of callout/cancellation attempts appeal to the humanity of the subject, pointing out that it's unfair and unproductive to treat a person, a fellow human being, regardless of how much harm they've caused and how genuinely unlikable they are, like that. but unfortunately the reality of being the target of a mob mentality often means facing the very isolating and traumatising experience of realising that you've ceased to exist as a person in their eyes. you're a representation of your transgressions, an embodiment of harm that needs to be erased like a blemish, a spectacle for entertainment, a means of earning social approval by publicly condemning and humiliating you in what quickly becomes a competition to see who can strike the blow that knocks you down so you never get up again. nobody cares about who you are outside of what you did. people make mistakes and hurt one another, but there is always the capacity for change, for regret and reparations. you are an irredeemable monster. you can't change. the only way to make sure you can't cause harm ever again is to neutralise you entirely. to drive you off and hurt you so badly that you never consider coming back. and it often succeeds. but it doesn't make the world a better or safer place. it just tells everyone that certain behaviours will be punished, so you should conceal them, and harshly condemn them in others so that everyone knows where you stand; nobody will stand up for you if you're accused and brought out for judgement, so you shouldn't trust anyone, and always be on the lookout to take them down before they can do the same to you. you're not creating a safe, welcoming community. you're creating a panopticon built on fear and punishment.
this isn't even to say that you should never ever call someone out on their behaviour. there's nothing wrong with being like "hey man, your behaviour is genuinely harmful and if i can't convince you to change then i feel i have a responsibility to at least make people aware of it" but the current mentality surrounding callouts is overwhelmingly not one of raising awareness, or even constructive criticism, but punitive action. the fact that almost everyone who makes an awareness post about someone's behaviour has to preface it with a disclaimer that "if you harass this person on my behalf, i don't endorse that and you're not helping" is genuinely horrifying.
starting to think some of yall arent serious bout finding beauty in the grotesque
do it scared do it weird do it alone. holy trinity
equally fucked up alternate version of the orpheus and eurydice myth where i successfully bring the great love of my life back from the dead without looking back but the unresolved trauma of their death leaves me so scared of losing them a second time that i can't bear to look at them ever again

Hilda by Duane Bryers
More Hilda!!
in this family we love and support Hilda.
Yes! Hilda!
What i love about this artistās depictions of women is even the sexualized ones the woman is always genuinely happy and enjoying herself. Frolicking or making funny faces, sheās living her life and looking sexy while doing it, not sitting in a sexual pose for the audienceās view.
I always forget about Hilda and am so pleased when she randomly shows up on my dash. Always makes my day
I love Hilda so much and I want her to be happy
My favorite thing is how Hilda is always doing something and having a BLAST! Sheās not posing coyly for anyone, sheās having her own adventures and itās not about the viewer at all
Always reblog Hilda!

i find the lines āmy soul belongs to god, i knowā from who am i and then āhe knows his way in the dark, mine is the way of the lordā from stars a very interesting contrast between valjean and javert. we often think of javert as following the laws strictly and apathetically, but he thinks heās doing godās work, not dissimilar from valjean doing everything he does in the name of god, but he does it with so much love instead.
it literally starts with valjean breaking the law for love (stealing bread for his family) and javert letting him go (purposefully) for the first time (his yellow ticket of leave) but telling valjean that he (the law) will always be looking over his shoulder.
and then we get the end that javert lets valjean go purposefully because of a break in his moral code. iāve always thought that javertās suicide feels like he thinks heās going to hell (āthe stars are black and coldā) and maybe he really does think that because he thought that he was doing the lordās work by upholding the law and now heās let a wanted man go, so is he damned? which brings us back to who am i, with valjean asking āif i stay silent, i am damnedā. javert is literally staying silent, so he is damned in his mind
