I loved this scene on so many levels. Firstly, science oven. Bravo Irving for naming it a science oven. Secondly, how Carmine makes me feel when he says “a new friend”. He not only believes they are friends, but look how damn much his friends mean to him, that he buys him a microwave.
And don’t even get me started on the hair in this scene and what that does to me.
"Don’t put metal in the science oven" is the motto of my 2014.
Also, Renner is so damn good at his job that people seem to miss the fact that he’s acting. I can’t believe he didn’t get nominated for this role, but then I am prepared to be outraged on his behalf every year until he gets the damn Oscar he’s deserved since The Hurt Locker.
Saw the movie last night, and I agree. Completely. The whole damn movie doesn’t work if you fail to believe in Polito, and why Irving would feel how he does about him. And it’s a really delicate balance to pull off, especially since he has to do it while matching the manic tone of the movie. Basically, this man is insanely good. And unexpectedly hot. Not gonna forget that.
Our favorite saying now in our house is “don’t put metal in the science oven … well I do what I want.” Renner made us all cringe for what we knew was going to happen to Carmine. The academy always goes for the big performances, overlooking the quiet ones.
