In my mind, Shane's username is ShaneHollanderHockeyPlayer because there is another Shane Hollander who is a forensic anthropologist out of UC Berkeley who got the username ShaneHollander first. Shane's username was originally just ShaneHollander24 but that didn't differentiate between them enough and Shane was waking up once or twice a month to DMs like "Hey Shane my name is CSI Sanders with the Las Vegas crime lab we wanted to get your opinion on this scene in Henderson NV, hope you don't mind got your info from your office out in SF they said this was the best way to contact you" and several dozen images of what is clearly a violently murdered skeleton.
Shane Hollander the anthropologist has a standing invitation to any of the Metros games against the Mission and donates generously to the Irina Foundation every year. Also, he had to deactivate his professional accounts for a few days in 2021. Shane and Ilya sent him an edible arrangement. Ilya wrote "Sorry bone man :(" on the card when Shane wasn't looking.

We all get sad that insects aren't at least dog size and octopuses only live in the ocean and there are no air jellyfish or visibly ambulatory plants and all the giant sea lizards are gone but sometimes you gotta just tell yourself some lifeforms are special *because* they're tiny or they're far away or they helped build the world we have now. We're just the weird ones for being terrestrial macrofauna, and it's pretty special that we evolved brains capable of marveling at things at all.
"I'm sad because I'll never see a quetzalcoatlus" consider: you live alongside pelicans and flamingos! Really sit and think about unbelievably strange a filter feeding bird is, and how lucky we are to be around them!
think about the fact that you and everyone you know gets to live at the same time as the blue whale, *the* single largest animal that has ever lived, water or land.
A small update on the grubbies: they are now extra beepy and have fur!

George Tiller was murdered 13 years ago today (May 31 2022)
People noting this anniversary reminding me again that it is such an insane failure of the pro-choice movement that we do not as a nation think of George Tiller as a civil rights hero and additionally a martyr at the level of MLK Jr. or a Kennedy. So, you know, do your part, etc.
He was shot in the head by Scott Roeder, while he was in the church, in 2009.
Before that, he survived a murder attempt by Shelley Shannon in 1993.
His crime? Helping women no matter what. Which is the worst sin, according to patriarchs and their handmaids.
How pro life of them to murder that doctor 😒
So the way I met Dr. Tiller was I had started working as an abortion provider in California and I had gone to a conference and he was there and he said; "the woman's body is smarter than the doctors." So, you know I had come from a midwifery background so I piped up, "oh that's midwifery!"
And he was a little startled, "what?" I said, "oh that's midwifery." And within 5 minutes he had offered me a job. That's how we met.
I really, really liked him. And I felt really close to him and I did consider him a friend. And I miss him a lot. And there's sometimes I think, "oh God, I'd really like to call him and talk to him." Yeah, I miss him tremendously.
- Dr. Shelly Sella, one of the remaining 3 late term abortion doctors featured in the documentary After Tiller
Today (5/31) is the last day of the National Abortion Access Fund-a-Thon and the perfect opportunity to make a donation in Dr. Tiller's honor

Bush thick-knee (Burhinus grallarius)
when i was a tiny baby queer (aka a 24-year-old), i went to my first pride festival probably three months after i kicked ex-gay therapy to the curb and came out to my parents. being the people they are, my parents came with me. they weren’t really sure about this whole gay thing, but they loved me and wanted me to be safe and happy and wanted to be involved in what was important to me, so they came along. (i also think my mother still might have thought i might get drugged or murdered or beaten by a protester of which there were plenty.)
anyway i wanted a memento of my first pride, you know, and this one vendor was selling keyrings, and i liked it, so i bought one. do you remember those italian charm bracelets that were all the rage like 10-15 years ago? it was a keychain like that, and it had a rainbow rooster, a rainbow cat, and then just a rainbow, and so I bought it.
i run into my mom a couple of vendors over and she goes oh you bought something? what’d you get? so i showed her, and i was like, “I’m not sure why it’s a rooster and a cat. Seems kind of random. But I liked the rainbows.”
and my mom, who was some form of minister’s wife for most of my childhood and teenagerhood, stares at me like she thinks i’m joking.
“What?” i say.
“…it’s a cock and a pussy, Jules,” she says flatly, and that is the story of how i died at the age of 24 while attending my first pride festival.
I love how every June this one gets dug up and passed around again, lmao.
oh no is this what we’re doing now
…relic…

I've found a healthier way of dealing with my job that I hate and it's been chugging as much water as humanly possible throughout the day without making myself nauseous and then leaving for 15 minute intervals at a time to piss like a racehorse

I dont rly understand how he functions with night vision on. like I'm assuming its only activated when dark (??) but in dark castle it seemed maybe a bit foggy at best... isn't it hard to see 😭
sorry if this is incoherent I just had some joke to make about him not being able to distinguish colors with it on but couldnt think of a good excuse to make it fit 😬 clearly im not a writer LMAO
A doll youtuber I watch has made a video about the history of Polly Pocket, and she's describing the plots of the dvd specials, one of which features an elderly woman named Ms. Throckmorton, and my reaction was
I need to send a "per your last email" email because the person I'm dealing with gave me conflicting information and is now trying to make me the problem.
They even had the audacity to screenshot their own email, so I've screenshot their most recent email in the same email thread that counters that other email, and now I'm trying to find a professional way to say, "this you?"
Fun times.
