something i appreciate about this site is how often i see friends, mutuals and strangers salivating over the most Some Guy looking people iāve ever seen. i think itās actually good for your psyche to see people carnally desire people that you would not even think twice about. itās good for the self esteem, a good reminder that for every random ass person on the world there is a subset of people that wants to do unspeakable things to them
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
Okay, I donāt normally add on to posts but in this case Iāve got to.
Rachel Ann Bovier is a Pittsburgh legend who has been publishing her poems in city newspapers for decades. In more recent years, she started putting up these bill boards along major roads. For what reason? I have no clue. But I would often pass them on my way to Oakland for therapy. They never failed to cheer me up.
As a young trans writer, they gave me this precious little spark of joy. There was someone like me, a writer, a Pittsburgher, a trans person, who was confident enough to put their face on a bill board! I would always smile as we passed by and my mom took note.
Fast forward a few years and itās my 21st birthday. My mom has been super excited about my gift and teased me about it over and over again. She said it was the best gift sheād ever gotten me and in many ways she was right. It was a custom poem she commissioned from Miss Bouvier! It congratulated me on my birthday, my academic success, lots of little stuff. It was simple and sweet and perfect.
Iām still not out to my parents about being trans, but that poem serves as a reminder to me that trans people are every where, they are artists, they are all ages, and their visibility is essential. So thank you to Rachel Ann Bouvier for being a great poetess and a Pittsburgh treasure!
This is so wholesome. The billboards donāt try to sell you anything. They donāt preach religion or show a vaguely threatening attorney. They just have nice little sayings on them.
"i would kill a pedophile to protect my child" ok but would you teach your child how to say no? even to adults? even to adults you like? would you teach your child the words "penis" and "vulva" and then use them? would you let them ask questions about their body? would you answer them honestly? would you learn how to cope with your feelings when you talk about human bodies, so they don't feel ashamed? would you set a positive example for how you talk about your body? would you tell your child they don't have to hug or kiss anyone? would you tell your family the same? would you stand by them when they refuse to hug someone? even someone you know has never done anything to hurt them? would you let your child avoid food they don't like? would you let you child avoid people they don't like? would you believe them? would you sit in the discomfort of not knowing all the answers and not take it out on them? would you love your child the same if someone did hurt them? would you make them feel valued just as they are? would you let them talk to doctors or nurses in private? would you let them express their feelings? would you show interest in their life? would you let your child say no to you? would you help your child feel safe coming to you when they make a mistake? would you apologize to your child? would you believe them? would you put aside your anger to focus on what would make your child feel safe and loved? would you put your ego aside for your child? would you take your child's concerns seriously? would you listen to your child? would you believe them?
that one thread about going back into a burning building to save your beloved pet gives me a lot of the same energy as this -- yeah, it's fun to fantasize about the Heroic Deed that you would commit on behalf of your loved one, while side-eyeing or outright sneering at people who aren't willing to make such grand declarations. but the odds that you're going to be called on to perform the Grand Heroic Deed is pretty low; in the meanwhile, are you performing the mundane, tedious, and sometimes unpleasant day-to-day work of preparing your loved one for this scenario? have you tested your smoke alarm batteries in the last six months? have you trained your pets to go to the door in case of an alarm? do you have a fire extinguisher in your house?
i literally know other people have said it before and no honestly i don't know what to do about it but holy shit every morning i wake up and there's some other incredibly-obvious violation of the law. what do you mean only three people voted to put that data center into utah. what do you mean that a data center in michigan was voted down; but they sued the town, won, and is now getting put in anyway. what do you mean that the projected environmental costs of these surveillance-state bunkers is akin to a nuclear bomb.
what do you mean that the president privately settled his own frivolous lawsuit, meaning that he is redistributing tax dollars to the proud boys for emotional damages. what do you mean that he offered a no-bid deal to his friends to seal the reflecting pool. what do you mean his cronies have learned to just dodge questions and lie on the stand. what do you mean about fucking anything he does.
and of course yes the pointless, inhumane war is distracting from the files. of course the gas prices are distracting from the endless push of capitalism's last breath. it's hard to revolt when you have no energy or time left.
and god forbid you try to actually do anything about it, holy shit. i've done the protesting and the volunteering and yes, we are all incredibly burnt out. we've been running on fumes forever, but these days everything feels incredibly pointless. we don't have the money for schools, but we will have the money for more weapons delivered to the police station.
and i don't fucking know the answer! i don't know. everyone says just get out there and vote and like, obviously yes, duh. i'm so well-past voting as an answer, though; because my trust in democracy is essentially zero. no matter how much we beg fucking do something, they just wring their hands and say: well, we need to meet them in the middle. no health care. no social security. no environmental protections. over and over we're told the money doesn't exist; and over and over we reply: it does if you just tax the rich. but don't worry! we can fund ICE with half the fucking treasury! because if he wants it, it gets done.
it is the country's 250th birthday in a month. and look how far we've come.
Next month I finally start my overnight shift at the lab and while I'm not sure how easily I'll adjust to becoming fully nocturnal, and not sure if I'll want to remain on night shift forever, I do think it's funny that my trainers so far have been gassing me up as a potential overnight supervisor if I can stick it out, and not just because I'm basically a natural at everything they're showing me but also because it will be a really funny bit for them to turn future new hires over to the pale and ethereally beautiful overnight supervisor named Carmilla who looks much younger than she actually is and works with the lab's blood samples. imagine being a new hire at a big empty overnight laboratory and your supe Carmilla adds you to her team slack channel and it's called #thralls
maybe y'all didn't notice but fat people who don't hate ourselves sure did notice that people were obsessed with shitting on fat people in the late 90s and early 2000s (conservative political time) and now are again (fascist political time), coincidentally while the market for weight loss has become a 90 billion dollar industry due to glp1s.
you are not immune to propaganda. it makes some people a whole hell of a lot of money for you to hate fat people and fear becoming (or staying, I think like 70% or something of the US is fat) one of us.
a lot of the fearmongering over fatness comes from studies directly funded by the weight loss industry...i think people don't really realize or think about the fact that research can absolutely be influenced and skewed by its funding. there is also research that shows that an amount of the negative health outcomes for fat people come from anti-fat bias. if you go to the doctor with concerns and the doctor simply tells you to lose weight, your problem is neglected and you may not even bother going to the doctor with the next problem.
every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.
the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.
some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.
you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.
A study spanning almost four decades and involving more than 100,000 adults in Denmark found that those with an 'overweight' body mass index
there's so much crazy shit once you go down the rabbit hole. for example, BMI was not invented by anyone with a medical background. it was never meant to measure individual health.
