mental grounding techniques for me to practice so the next sensory trigger recovery is gentler:
use an anchoring statement
i'm [full name]. i'm [#] years old. i live in [place]. today is [day of week, date]. it is [time]. i am [current ongoing action in location].
[continue to describe the location, noting the basics of your surrounding and not your feelings about them until you are calm]
describe a common task
Think of an activity you do often or well, like making coffee or digging weeds, and go through the process step-by-step, as if you're giving someone else instructions how to do it.
touch something comforting
like the cotton blankets, a rock, anything that feels good to touch. think about how it feels under your fingers or in your hand.
once these 15 million different stressful situations resolve themselves I’m gonna be so normal again. I can be normal and not exhausted
i think people really under sell the physical side effects of mental health disorders sometimes. like sure the depression and anxiety may be 'just in your head' but when what's in your head happens to disrupts your sleep schedule and prevent you from going outside regularly and eating consistent meals and exercising and generally taking care of your body. well it sure takes its toll huh.

I love how varied and universally weird the circumstances for making lifelong friendships are. Here's this guy I accidentally messaged once and I could not imagine my life without them now. Here's this girl I was so scared of when I met her, I would kill for her and remind her to rest on the regular. Here's this other guy we have so much in common we used to joke we were the same person in different timelines. It took us years to meet in person and I attended his wedding. There are also people who entered my life in absolutely unremarkable ways but changed it forever for the better. It's wonderful how easy it is to find people to love.
This is the best post I have ever written, read the notes and be blessed by loving your friends magic
"do it scared" gets exhausting when you're The Fearful Afraider and everything is scary even when you're in your 30s
Parent: "Why are you still angry at me? It happened a long time ago?"
Adult Child: "Because I wasn't allowed to be angry when it happened. Any expression of anger, real or perceived, no matter how slight, was punishable by you hitting me. Since anger is an inevitable response to how you treated me and I wasn't allowed to be angry when it happened, literally the only possible outcome is me being angry now."
By popular demand: He eat a Wawamelon
remember, you can try a change for like a week and see how it works for you
you don't have to stick with something that you are trying
and if it works, great! keep it!
if it doesn't work, great! see what other changes you can try until you have an improvement that works for you!
remaining in a stagnation that harms and destroys is not helping you nor those around you. trying to grow and change yourself and our community around us, knowing when rest and recovery itself is an important change to make, and you'll stay whelmed
forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it you’re literally gonna be using that almost every day
This seems like a good post to include this link on:
One buyout firm quietly collected Pyrex, Corelle, Instant Pot, and Oneida. Farberware is a name on a 200-year lease. And the pans still wort
Talking about popular kitchenware companies undergoing enshittification, and gives you a list of brands towards the end that are more reliable.
regulate before you reason
my anger first aid has been helpful for me but my emotional dysregulation isn't exclusive to anger, so! Regulation Tools
STOP
when emotions seem in control,
Stop
Take a step back
Observe
Proceed mindfully:
if we want an emotion to stick around or increase, continue to do an action that sustains it
if we want an emotion to go away or become less uncomfortable, do an opposite action (link with examples)
if we want our actions to work, we must follow it all the way through and believe that it will work.
