These statements are worse than I ever could have expected and I thought my expectations were already at zero
These statements are so outwardly racist yet the speaker is so unaware of of being so.
The worse this situation in Ukraine is getting the more i hate the jokes americans make about it. All of those "vladdy look at me this isn't u 🥺" "not me living through ww3" and "i don't wanna get drafted" jokes are just in bad taste to me. If it were my country, i would not want people to joke about it this way.
And i see so many of them go "well we use humor to cope" literally from what? What do you need to cope from? The traumatic event of watching the news and seeing footage of something that's happening hundreds of miles away from you? That's no different from any other war that's been happening over the last two decades though. Wars that America has very much been involved in. So why is this different to you? Because "white" countries are involved now?
Before you joke think about what you're saying. American teens and young adults are probably as far removed from this conflict as can be, which is why you find it so easy to joke about this. I have also seen brits and other west europeans make jokes so ofc americans aren't the only ones, but you are the majority. I have yet to see east europeans make jokes though. Why? Because they realize how serious this situation is and jokes don't help.
Meanwhile Ukrainians have to sit and watch their land be invaded. They are losing their homes. I stand with Ukraine 💙💛
There'll be a moment when you realise you're 27 when yesterday you were just 17; and you wouldn't be able to tell how a decade passed away and your life got divided into before and afters. The fury of youth will subdue and nothing will really change but everything will feel different when you look at old photographs and blurry videos taken on cheap mobile phones. Scents will remind you of childhood and certain friends you don't talk to anymore, hangouts will become reunions and mom's burnt pie will become the best food you ever had. And I know on some days you won't be able to show anything of those 10 years but I hope you remember to breathe, and let go of the knot in your chest. I hope you go out in the sun and live a little, because tomorrow is 37.

Headcanon: My mother — who is French and also a wine maker in the southern region of the country — just told me something intriguing. Apparently it’s considered proper for winemakers in France to not wear perfume or cologne while at work, because the scent of it can disturb the scents and aromas of the wines you’re working with and trying to smell. So here’s my controversial headcanon –
Potions-making requires uninterrupted access to your sense of smell. You have to be able to smell everything. The slightest variation in acidity, acridity, sourness, bitterness, salt, spice, or sweet, flowery or fruity, earthy or grassy or fresh, or even foul or mold. In the classroom Snape would have to be able to smell if someone had put the wrong ingredient in, or if someone had done it right. Because he knows how every potion should smell.
So Severus Snape doesn’t wear cologne while working. And since he is almost always working, he basically never wears cologne. So that means that my eau de Snape joke is actually accurate. Severus would smell of eau de Snape, that is to say — he would smell of Potions and the outdoors and maybe his shower soap. He would smell like…. himself. But even then I’m guessing he would opt for scents that are extremely subtle so as to not disrupt his olfactory sense.
And he can’t stand it when people wear overpowering perfumes and colognes when they’re in his presence at work, because it interrupts his focus and his precision. But in romantic life he hates cloying perfumes and colognes because it keeps him from smelling the person’s real scent.

It is canon that Snape was friends with Charity Burbage. But to take it one step further — they had debates together about Muggle versus Wizarding politics and culture. They played chess. They went for walks. They patrolled together. Why were they friends? Because both they came from the same sort of working class British Muggle background. Because they both loved academia. Because they both despised Death Eaters. There isn’t enough content about Charity and Severus’ supposed friendship.
So I was thinking what if Eileen Snape dated Abraxas Malfoy back in their school days? Well perhaps dated isn't the best term for it but their parents thought perhaps they'd make a good match so they courted for a bit. Abraxas considered Eileen to be the best choice for a wife out of his other possible chocies and did grow to care for her. Eileen did consider Abraxas to be the least revolting of her choices. But she never wanted to be a housewife instead she wanted to be able to explore that world and enjoy life.
So when she heard that the second muggle world war was over she went to a muggle party. There she met a very fun solider who literally swept her off her feet during a dance. Eileen quickly fell in love with the fun she had with the muggle solider, who name was Tobias Snape. So when Tobias asked her to marry him, she jumped at the chance thinking it would be a life of adventure. She quickly realized how wrong she was when she was disowned, had to stop using magic, and was forced to live the life of a muggle housewife. She did consider going back but then she fou d out shs was pregnant so she realized she had no choice but to stay. She hated the baby at first but once Severus was born and placed in her arms, she changed her tune. She adapted to the muggle lifestyle only using magic in an emergency or to teach her son.
Meanwhile Abraxas felt heartbroken over the loss of Eileen. But he married and provided an heir, he buried the pain deeply. It didn't resurface until years later when Lucius was talking about the new batch of first years that were sorted into slytherin. When Lucius mentions an oynx eyed boy with the last name Snape, the pain reappears but it quickly develops into fondness when Lucius tells him more about the boy. Specifically his abilites in magic and potions which remind him of Eileen. After that Abraxas insisted on Lucius taking the boy under his wing. Abraxas also used his connections to secretly help Severus throughout life, such as providing a letter of recommendation for a potion masters program
I am quite unfamiliar with the term "gaslight(er)" (English isn't my first language). I know it's a form of manipulation and I don't really understand how it applies to Remus. I know he's messed up, lies, sugarcoat many things and is dismissive towards Severus, so where was the gaslight? Would you mind explain me please? 🕊

Here is the definition:
Gaslighting is a colloquialism, loosely defined as making someone question their own reality. The term may also be used to describe a person who presents a false narrative to another group or person which leads them to doubt their perceptions and become misled, disoriented or distressed.
Gaslighting can be a very effective tool for an abuser to control a person. It is done slowly so the victim writes off the event as a one off or oddity and doesn't realise they are being manipulated.
Remus fits into that. Remus calls Severus by his first name despite Severus obviously not being comfortable with that level of familiarity, he acts like they are friendly, he never apologies despite acting apologetic, and he lies and twists what happened to Harry.
Honestly, as a bully and abuse victim, I’d rather Black’s treatment than Remus’s. Why? Because Remus is gaslighting. It makes Severus—the victim—feel ridiculous for being resentful and it presents his bully as a kind person who’s willing to put the history aside (in contrast to your rightful bitterness and anger).
At least Black was direct and had the balls to hate Severus openly. Black is direct, and Harry very clearly sees the problem. Remus, however, is a manipulator that acts in sneaky, indirect ways. You cannot protest, and you are the one perceived as the bitter, hysterical bully, and your harasser as the victim (but both of you know it’s the opposite). Nobody will believe you even if you say so and the only thing you can do is bear with it.
Remus claims that Severus was jealous of James’s talent on the Quidditch pitch even though Severus canonically does not give a single shit about Quidditch. He claims that Severus’s hatred of the Marauders is a schoolboy grudge, much like the fandom does. He humiliates and harasses Severus (Boggart incident), he never acknowledges Severus’s trauma or the seriousness of what was done to him, tries to present it as a “rivalry” of some sort, and he also calls Severus a fool (what a smart move).
He puts a lot of effort into burnishing his and his friends’ image by justifying bullying with “he fought back”, “he was jealous”, “he (James) was only 15”, and “it was a mutual hate and those are things that happen” rather than admitting that what they did was terrible.
Remus is a bully as an adult, while he does not bully children as Severus did, he still found it amusing to publicly and sexually humiliate Sev, and at the age of 33 he called what 16 year old Sirius Black did to Severus when they were teenagers “a joke” despite the fact that Severus was very clearly traumatised by the trick Sirius played on him. When Harry asked him and Sirius about SWM Remus kept on victim-blaming Severus, and tried to justify their bullying by saying that they were just popular boys when they did it.

She glances down the hall, closes his door, kneels pleadingly.

I can’t stop thinking about how different HP would’ve been had Harry had a diary from Lily. Especially if that diary only went through 4th year, maybe even the beginning of 5th year. Lily’s last entry would be something like, ‘Well, I have to study for OWLs this year, so I may not be writing here much anymore…’
Harry would’ve been ecstatic to meet Snape. His mother’s best friend. The one who told her about magic. Snape would’ve came into the first class all, ‘…Our new celebrity’ and Harry, all doe eyed, would’ve been like, ‘Severus Snape! My mom’s best friend! She said you were great at Defense Against the Dark Arts and as good as her with Potions!’ And Snape would immediately just lose composure. He thought he knew how he was gonna react, but this was unexpected.
Then, after class, Harry, with all of his hero worship, would walk up to Snape and whisper, ‘My mom only had bad things to say about my dad in her diary…so you think he used a spell or potion on her?’ And Snape, knowing the whole truth, but still being Snape, would respond, ‘You know, Harry, I’ve always wondered.’
That’s some delicious severitus right there. Ripe with angst for when Harry finds out the truth, but of course, he’d forgive Snape for lying to him all those years. Their relationship would’ve been so different! Snape would’ve had to let Harry know that he had to treat him poorly during class so the Slytherins wouldn’t report to their Death Eater parents that Snape treated Harry well. Harry would’ve been in on it the whole time. There would’ve been moments where Harry would’ve wished that Snape was his dad. Even asked Snape if that was possible. They both would’ve crumbled when Harry found out the truth about Snape overhearing the prophecy and telling Voldemort. The forgiveness would’ve been so powerful.
Anyways, these are the things that keep me up at night in 2022!
we didn’t get to see enough of the hogwarts teachers’ private lives both in the books and in the films. like what do they do in their free time? they live at the castle for the most part, right — a few of them might go away for the holidays but the majority will live at the school year round, right? so what would that be like? chill as hell, i’d be willing to bet. and when it’s not the holidays, the teachers would probably meet up after hours to play chess or have intellectual debates or go for walks around the lake or something. in this essay i will
Once again thinking about Snape’s appearance, and how if he didn’t care about how he looked, why would he be clean shaven? He could easily have left his facial hair to grow out, but instead must have actively chosen to do something about it. Whether this was hair removal by magic or razor, it’s still a choice he made. Why would he bother at all if he didn’t care? This further supports my hypothesis that Snape’s hair is greasy due to iron deficiency and naturally overactive sebaceous glands, as well as his diet. Interestingly, stress is also known to cause oily hair.
With an iron deficiency and a schedule like his, he wouldn’t have the time or energy to keep on top of greasy hair (add a beard into the mix and that’s even more hair to worry about - removing it is easier and maintains his look). In this essay I will

Ok but if it was like Snape’s regal Roman nose, Snape’s long black hair glistened in the candlelight, Snape spent so long in the dungeons his skin was dull from a lack of vitamin d, Snape’s stereotypically British teeth, Snape’s fingers discoloured from ingredients for potions he spent hours preparing and perfecting, Snape’s majestic bat-like form like... this still looks like Snape but where does it say he’s ugly????
