I've just started the beauty myth, if you have any more recommendations of books on feminism i would love to hear it!
How are you enjoying it? Feel free to message me and we can chat about it!
Letters From A War Zone holds a special place in my heart for being my first radfem book, SCUM Manifesto for being my second. Read the SCUM manifesto once like "this is a powerful satire exposing how men talk about women, and have talked about women throughout all of history". and then read it once more like “this is the undisputed truth”.
Who Cooked The Last Supper? will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!! transformative. visionary. will totally back up your misandry and also make you so so proud to be a woman aka the creators of all culture and innovation.
Delusions of Gender is really good at breaking down how children are socialized from birth to believe in gender differences, and was one of the books that got me interested in radical feminism in a sociology class.
A Womb of One's Own is a short at-home abortion guide that I think everyone should read, regardless of whether or not you're pregnant. Jane Doe imagines a world where women are in complete control of their reproductive power, and it's incredibly empowering to know how abortion works.
Ain't I A Woman is a book that I think is really important for white feminists to read to look at the pitfalls of the feminist movement and to see how we can make sure feminism is supporting all our sisters, plus has a lot of really good historical information on black feminists. A good jumping off point to learn about historical black feminists - I read this & did follow-up research while I still had access to a university library, and tragically did not save a lot of pdfs, but if you can, there were some amazing stories I learned about, like Elizabeth Kaye/Key.
Invisible Women for wonderful and insanity-inducing science about how our lives are put at risk from male-as-default attitudes.
It Is Obscene which is an essay, not a book, but I think Chimamanda's talent for succinct, potent writing really manages to drive the point home. I think radfems should read this so we know what we're dealing with - truthfully, some people have just figured out that the best way to bully people nowadays is to fake a concern for the most oppressed members of society, and anything they contribute towards ending misogyny/racism is not driven by compassion. Honestly all of Chimamanda’s work is wonderful.
