Barbara has been working nonstop for hours. It's not looking good.
Damian had been the one to find the podcast. Apparently, true crime was the current most popular forbidden interest at his school. He'd listened to a couple episodes, then sent the link to the batfam groupchat saying the podcaster had 'adequate research and deductive skills'. By the end of the day they had all listened to at least a few episodes of it.
Jazz Fenton, the podcaster, really was very good at what she did.
She'd found out the details of two previously unsolved murders from the 50s and managed to tie them to the old mafia families.
The fact that those exact methods were still apparently in use by the families for murders they didnt want tracked back to them was something she couldnt have known.
Which brought Barbara to now, texting Jazz increasingly urgent messages and keeping an eye on her through street cameras on one screen while she tried to find a way to send help to her on time.
Hacking into Jazz's phone to keep giving her directions as she ran away, Barbara saw that even before she started moving, Jazz had already pulled up her brother's contact to text him. As she started running, she sent off a text saying 'SOS'. As she ran, she managed to send off 'home. Outaide' before shutting her screen off and truly bolting at top speed.
On the cameras, Barbara could see two people running out of the Fenton house and taking off after her. She could also see a car, a block away, start driving towards Jazz from the direction she was running to. Barbara glanced at another screen, showing the location of the nearest police cars. They werent going to make it on time.
Then, the feed showing Jazz got staticky.
Then Barbara lost all feedback on every camera she could find in a three block radius. Street cameras, doorbell cameras, atm cameras. She'd even lost her connection to Jazz's phone.
Three minutes of frantic typing later, all of the feeds came back at once.
There was no sign of any of the attackers, or Jazz. The car was still there, but it was empty. The engine seemed to still be running, but no one was inside, and the doors were shut.
Then, she got a message came from Jazz's phone. 'Thanks for the heads up! ;)'
What. What just happened?
