Hello everyone, my name is Raziel ‘reb’ Margolis-Lonston, although you may know me as Ranger-Rebbeka! I’ve been running this blog for a few years at this point, and I’ve finally made a pinned post specific to this blog.

My favorite Ranger’s Apprentice book is The Ruins of Gorlan, my favorite characters are Hal, Will, Alyss, and Halt.

I’ve read both the original series and The Brotherband Chronicles, but have not the Royal Ranger.

Ok, RA AU idea:

Modern au where the rangers are basically high level thieves (like million dollar art thieves, not regular old burglurers) and Will is their newest member, at age 18.

While he's on a heist with Halt, they're almost caught by a detective and the group of security guards with her. One of whom is Horace Altman, (who's the same age as Will obviously)

It would be enemies to lovers Oakleaf Knight/Willace, where the two slowly fall for each other over the course of multiple heists.

Also the previously mentioned detective? Pauline Dulacy. So while Will is going through his own little Enemies to lovers plot, so is Halt! (And Crowley too for all you Craltine fans out there)

And then, as the C plot, Alyss, Pauline's detective student, is working with Cassandra, one of the wealthy people who's been stolen from, to try and stop the heists, and is slowly finding that this wealthy Heiress isn't as stuck up as she first thought.

I feel like it's very unlike Will to just give John Buttle as a slave to the Skandians in book five. I mean, when he was a slave, he probably felt like nobody deserves that faith. It doesn't matter what bad things they did. So it's weird that Will just gave him away.

I did not understand the "Halt is gay" agenda, and maybe thats because Crowley has spoken on the page like twice where I am in the story.

But watching Halt and Erak interact??? That is a bisexual man. That is a Bisexual Man. I hope he has the time of his life giving those kids the sex ed talk, he's gonna be a such a bastard about it.

Y'know, the courier's apprenticeships don't work the same as the rangers. And I don't remember what led me to that conclusion, but ever since I first read the books, I always assumed that Pauline would have multiple apprentices at the same time. Like, a group of 5 or so that she would teach for as many years. A small classroom kinda thing. They would probably have like dorms in the castle. Alyss would get along with them well, I think. Even if she'd probably be the only girl in her class, Pauline has definitely mentored other girls in the past. Those ladies definitely come by and visit her sometimes, help out in the teaching. Idk. Thinking about the courier's.....

I saw some sketches you did of Halt O'carrick ages ago and the expressions were soooooo good. He's literally perfect 😭 Would you maybe consider drawing another Halt? 👉👈 Maybe Halt when he had to dress as king of Clonmel? Or halt enjoying a coffee? (obviously you don't have to if you don't feel like it!! I just loved your drawings of him)

Ok guys. I'm dying to know. Is there any new news regarding the RA movie? I know there's a way to contact Mr. Flanagan, but I'm too introverted to try. Google won't tell me squat.

In short: It’s not and most likely will never happen.

In long(er): Two different companies tried to make a movie about it, but one of them kind of… fizzled out (or had financial issues?) and the other got interrupted by COVID and has since not resumed progress.

There was more than two that tried to pick it up. Ordered from the first one offered to last:

1. United Artists — couldn’t get enough funds, as MGM (a production company or something idk how film industries work) didn’t think the proposed $100 million+ budget was suitable. They were set to do auditions back in 2014, however, but something happened from there and—

2. Dick Cook Studios (DCS) (by itself) — RA was going to be their first film, with funds gotten from Film Carnival in 2016. The funds were pulled, so they had to move to get funding from multiple people.

3. DCS and Warner Bros (filmed at Dockland Studios Melbourne) — This was the one delayed by COVID, starting in July of 2020. Flanagan said it would still be filmed, later, but they would have to change the movie into a series instead. It was supposed to be released in October 22, 2021 (needless to say, that didn’t happen).

4. Skydance Media — This is the last company that took it up, done in January 2024. As of September 2024, it’s supposedly back in development. Ted Melfi is the lead director. John Flanagan is the executive producer. The movie, if it is truly in production still, would focus on the first two books.

I say if, because there has been no updates since that time and frankly, I wouldn’t get our hopes up.

Whatever part of Flanny's brain came up with the idea to make Halt short deserves an honourable mention because that was undeniably the best decision in the entire series, I will take no debate on this.
