Damn, Annihilation is one hell of a book. Not sure what to even say about it, other than what a riveting combination of prose, character, setting, and atmosphere. The crushing sense of dread, the dreamlike nature of the characters' affected cognition, the moments of more overt horror almost feeling relieving, the genuine alienness. Also a delight to have a cast of mostly women, most of whom are some combination of difficult, damaged and uncommunicative. The supporting cast are by necessity loosely sketched, as characters, but the Biologist is brilliant. Highly recommend for fans of awkward women and horror about people exploring a spooky abandoned location.

words cannot describe how disheartening this is to see... girl scouts and girl guides have always been on the progressive side and this is a massive step in the wrong direction. girl scouting and girl guiding is for ALL girls, and that includes our trans sisters. it is absolutely ridiculous and quite frankly spineless that the girl guides of the uk are capitulating to the transphobic rhetoric and also that the world association of girl guides and girl scouts have allowed this to happen. we need to do better. now more than ever we need to protect our trans sisters in scouting. this is not what the girl scout law means, this is not being a sister to every girl scout
