How to recognize an unhealthy type

Simply put, healthy function use = healthy type. But many of us struggle with our tertiary and inferior function, especially under stress, which can pave the way for behaviors that other people hate or that we even hate ourselves for it. That’s normal, granted you try to self-improve.

An unhealthy type however has this distinction of using their dominant and/or auxiliary function in a counter-productive manner. Since these functions take precedence in our psyche, that means you’re stuck with an individual who’s often naturally unbearable most of the time, not just when things go wrong. 

With this in mind…

An unhealthy Si user is that person who never changes their mind about anything, who always shoots down any kind of alternatives and proposals and will make it their pleasure to criticize anything that they’ve never even tried. Some will go as far as seeing progress as an enemy. It seems like it’ll take a bulldozer to move them away from their comfort zone. Just try not to punch them in the face when they call you all excited about a new discovery that you spent 5 years telling them about. 

An unhealthy Se user is that person who always seems to be in trouble. Financial, legal, professional, you name it. Seems like being around them means cleaning up one mess after another. You’ll scratch your head as to how they say they need to borrow money for the rent and the next week they buy themselves neat new designer clothes or something along those lines. They’re fun for a night out on the town, but otherwise, you probably avoid them like the plague. 

An unhealthy Ni user is that person who always think they understand stuff better than you and that their word is gospel. They effortlessly exude arrogance and somewhat of a superiority complex without even realizing it. Despite their depth of thought, you would still never trade places with them as they never seem to have had one minute of fun during their lifetime and their only ounce of contentment is when you tell them they were right about something.

An unhealthy Ne user is that person who will have 2 hours discussions with you, that are usually more monologues and yet they never seem to make a point. They get excited about everything and anything, only to never offer you follow-ups. They’ll not only contradict themselves in a span of a few days, but sometimes within the same statement. They’ll often think of themselves as knowledgeable on just about every issue, only to realize they merely scratched said issue on the surface based on something they heard about it on the fly. 

An unhealthy Fi user is that person who just says and does whatever they want without with total disregard as to whether it’s appropriate or not. They are masters at twisting around and justifying everything they say and do. And if all else fails, play the victim, because they’re convinced no one understands them. Their lives are often a mess on an organizational level and please don’t offer them sound and logical advice because that might actually anger them even more. They’ll gladly self-destruct even more if it means telling you to piss off. 

An unhealthy Fe user is that person who knows what everyone is up to, but also criticizes what everyone is doing as if they wrote book on acceptable social norms and behaviors. They have an uncanny ability to think they know what’s best for everyone. You’ll often find them raising themselves up by knocking other people down, often in the form of gossip. And yet for all of this, they never seem to realize that they can’t take care of themselves without any kind of assistance from others which is actually the first issue they should address before meddling in other people’s business. 

An unhealthy Ti user is that person who thinks they’ve got it all figured out, yet the results show something quite different. They are often cynical and smartasses but not in a fun way as they’ll shun and criticize everything that makes us human like feelings, unity, spirituality etc. We’re all just monkeys destined to be worm food, you know. Ti can also be aggressively manipulative and disregard people’s feelings when it goes into “as long as I get when I want” mode. 

An unhealthy Te user is that person who seems to think everyone is stupid, lazy and incompetent. They want everyone to abide by the rules but are often the first ones to break or twist said rules when it works in their favor. Any and all shreds of “sound advice” will be sprinkled with insults on your ability to problem solve, if not, your entire character. Most frustrating is that when people finally have enough of them, they usually don’t even understand why. In their minds, they’re usually the only ones that are rational and responsible.

Hello, I was wondering how one could utilize their tertiary Se better? I feel like my usage of Se is very clumsy, therefore I tend to avoid actively using it, which I know isn't helping. All people tell me is "live in the moment" but there's obviously more to Se than that. What are some ways an ENTJ could practice using their Se to become more comfortable with it? Thank you in advance!

Se serves three purposes in NJ types:

To ground them in reality / help them see whether their ideas are realistic

To feed them information to support and strengthen their intuition

To help them engage with the environment / be opportunistic

And yet, since it’s uncomfortable to engage with Se, a lot NJs choose not to. If you wonder why you should, think about it this way:

If your vision for what you want is unrealistic,and you are never going to  achieve it, is it better to know this sooner rather than later?

If you can be more accurate in your conclusions, is that not a good thing?

If you could actually see a chance to make your dream real and take it, in the moment, would that not benefit you in the long term?

So, what is Se?

Openness to new experiences

Appreciation for sensory elements and experiences

Intense awareness of the environment

Impartial absorption of information and facts

The ability to ‘make things happen’ through action

Being present in the moment and aware of chances to act

So, how does an NJ do these things?

Deliberately try out new things / go new places / try things other than in your narrow zone of focus

When you are somewhere or doing something, consciously choose to stay present in the moment and see, taste, and smell everything instead of rushing to abstract from it (tell yourself, no, just enjoy this… no future planning… no reading between the lines… no philosophizing)

Take time to really look around you and pay attention. What does that bark look like? What color is that bird’s under-wing? How many whiskers does your cat have? Can you “feel” how far away you are from that object?

Study information. A lot. Your Te/Se will love it.

Practice action to make your goals real. What if you took that chance instead of hesitating? The more you try things, the more confidence you will have in taking action – the more you will learn from your mistakes. Poor tert-Se major boo-boo’s happen because a lower Se is not wise enough to leap on the right opportunities, and the only way this happens is practice / engagement / taking chances / failure / success.

Be present. It’s hard for an intuitive. But wherever you are, BE THERE. Be fully there. Mind. Body. Soul. Focus. Nowhere else. Not in the future. Not in your head. Not half there. THERE.

As you can see, from observing the table, there are a few things that stand out:

xSTJs and xNTJs identify as Republican the most.

Democrat affiliation is lowest among rational types.

Democrats are represented highest among “SF” and “NF” types.ESTJs mostly identify as Republican.

THE MBTI TYPES AND POLITICAL ISSUES

1. GUN CONTROL

Conservatives believe that individual Americans have a right to defend themselves and their families with guns and that right cannot be taken away by any method short of a Constitutional Amendment. The Second Amendment gives the individual the right to keep and bear arms. Gun control laws do not thwart criminals. You have a right to defend yourself against criminals. More guns mean less crime. Liberals believe by taking arms away from law abiding citizens, they can prevent criminals, who aren’t going to abide by gun control laws, from using guns in the commission of crimes. The Second Amendment gives no individual the right to own a gun, but allows the state to keep a militia (National Guard). Guns kill people. Guns kill children. 2. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

Conservatives believe that we should live in a color blind society where every individual is judged on the content of his character and the merits of his/her actions. People should be admitted to schools and hired for jobs based on their ability. It is unfair to use race as a factor in the selection process. Reverse discrimination is not a solution for racism. Liberals believe that it’s okay to discriminate based on race as long as it primarily benefits minority groups. Due to prevalent racism in the past, minorities were deprived of the same education and employment opportunities as whites. We need to make up for that. Support affirmative action based on the belief that America is still a racist society. Minorities still lag behind whites in all statistical measurements of success. 3. SOCIAL WELFARE

Conservatives oppose long-term welfare. We need to provide opportunities to make it possible for poor and low-income workers to become self-reliant. It is far more compassionate and effective to encourage a person to become self-reliant, rather than keeping them dependent on the government for money. Liberals think that the solution to every problem is another government program. Even when those new programs create new problems, often worse than the ones that were being fixed in the first place, the solution is always….you guessed it, another government program. They support social welfare. They want welfare to provide for the poor. To liberals, conservatives oppose welfare because they are not compassionate toward the poor. We have welfare to bring fairness to American economic life. Without welfare, life below the poverty line would be intolerable. 4. ECONOMY

Conservatives are capitalists and believe that entrepreneurs who amass great wealth through their own efforts are good for the country and shouldn’t be punished for being successful. The free market system, competitive capitalism, and private enterprise afford the widest opportunity and the highest standard of living for all. Free markets produce more economic growth, more jobs and higher standards of living than those systems burdened by excessive government regulation. Liberals are socialists who view successful business owners as people who cheated the system somehow or got lucky. That’s why they don’t respect high achievers and see them as little more than piggy banks for their programs. Favor a market system in which government regulates the economy. We need government to protect us against big businesses. Unlike the private sector, the government is motivated by public interest. We need government regulation to level the playing field. 5. ABORTION

Conservatives believe that abortion ends the life of an innocent child and since we believe that infanticide is wrong, we oppose abortion. Human life begins at conception. Abortion is the murder of a human being. Nobody has the right to murder a human being. Support legislation to prohibit partial birth abortions, called the “Partial Birth Abortion Ban” (partial birth abortion – the killing of an unborn baby of at least 20 weeks by pulling it out of the birth canal with forceps, but leaving the head inside. An incision is made in the back of the baby’s neck and the brain tissue is suctioned out. The head is then removed from the uterus.) Liberals, largely believe that abortion ends the life of an innocent child, but they prefer killing the baby to inconveniencing the mother. A fetus is not a human life. The decision to have an abortion is a personal choice of a woman regarding her own body and the government should stay out of it. 6. GOVERNMENT

Conservatives, but not necessarily Republicans (which is unfortunate), believe it’s vitally important to the future of the country to reduce the size of government, keep taxes low, balance the budget, and get this country out of debt. Conservatives believe that government, by its very nature, tends to be inefficient, incompetent, wasteful, and power hungry. 7. RELIGION

Conservatives believe the phrase “separation of church and state” is not in the Constitution. The First Amendment to the Constitution states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” This prevents the government from establishing a national church. However, it does not prevent God from being acknowledged in schools and government buildings. Oppose the removal of symbols of Christian heritage from public and government spaces. Liberals, most of them anyway, are hostile to Christianity. That’s why, whether you’re talking about a school play at Christmas time, a judge putting the Ten Commandments on the wall of his court, or a store employee saying “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays,” liberals are dedicated to driving reminders of Christianity from polite society. They support the separation of church and state. Religious expression has no place in government. Support the removal of all references to God in public and government spaces. 8. DEATH PENALTY

Liberals believe we should abolish the death penalty. The death penalty is inhumane and is ‘cruel and unusual’ punishment. It does not deter crime. Imprisonment is the appropriate punishment. 9. EDUCATION

Conservatives advocate for school vouchers to give all parents the right to choose good schools for their children, not just those who can afford private schools. 10. THE ENVIRONMENT

Conservatives desire clean water, clean air and a clean planet, just like everyone else. However, extreme environmental policies destroy jobs and damage the economy. Changes in global temperatures are natural over long periods of time. So far, science has not shown that humans can affect permanent change to the earth’s temperature. Liberals believe Conservatives don’t care about protecting the environment. Industrial growth harms the environment. Global warming is caused by an increased production of carbon dioxide. The U.S. is a major contributor to global warming because it produces 25% of the world’s carbon dioxide. The U.S. should enact laws to significantly reduce that amount. 11. HEALTHCARE

Conservatives believe that free healthcare provided by the government (socialized medicine) means that everyone will get the same poor-quality healthcare. Conservatives support legal immigration at current numbers, but do not support illegal immigration. Government should enforce immigration laws. Oppose President Bush’s amnesty plan for illegal immigrants. Those who break the law by entering the U.S. illegally should not have the same rights as those who obey the law by entering legally. If there were a decrease in cheap, illegal immigrant labor, employers would have to substitute higher priced domestic employees, legal immigrants, or perhaps increase mechanization. Liberals support legal immigration and increasing the number of legal immigrants permitted to enter the U.S. each year. Support blanket amnesty for current illegal immigrants. 13. SAME-SEX MARRIAGE

Conservatives insist that marriage is between one man and one woman. Opinions differ on support for the creation of a constitutional amendment establishing marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Believe that requiring citizens to sanction same-sex relationships violates moral and religious beliefs of millions of Christians, Jews, Muslims and others who believe marriage is the union of a man and a woman. Liberals believe marriage should be legal for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender couples to ensure equal rights for all. All individuals, regardless of their sex, have the right to marry. Hi, I'm a teenaged girl and I have absolutely no idea whether I'm and ENTP or an ENFP. At first I wasn't sure whether I'm an ENTP or an INTP but then I concluded that I'm more of an ENTP than an INTP. I'm either in a Ne-Fe loop or an ENFP... :/

Oh boy…I’ve been there. For months after I first discovered mbti I thought I was an ENFP, because most dichotomy tests told me so. Turns out, I’m actually an ENTP and had been in a loop all along. The problem with loops is that they feel empowering at first. You only notice that something is off (unhealthy) when you’re really deep in that loop. It seems that this kind of confusion is quite common for ExTP girls and ExFP guys, since society has conditioned girls to express/handle their feelings better and guys to keep them shut. Sucks, I know.

Anyway, a good way to check your type are cognitive functions tests. The questions seem a bit weird, but they actually help. Instead of that you could read about the cognitive functions yourself and see which ones you use the most. For me, it was the tertiary function comparison that helped more. I could clearly see a Fe in me and my relationships, while Te wasn’t really visible. My INTP friend also helped, as it was pretty easy for her to spot the Ti in me. If you have xNFPs and xNTPs in your friends circle ask them to do the same with you.

Most importantly, I say give it time. As you grow, it will be easier for you to discover yourself. Don’t stress too much about it, go on with your daily activities and the answer will come soon :)

Te-doms (ENTJ & ESTJ)

Te-doms are the anchors in a relay race, they’re the ones to cross the finish line and bring home the gold. Their value in my life is providing a very vital piece of encouragement when things get tough and the future looks hazy: “It can be done– and this how to best do it.” Where other types have the tendency to only give encouragement and stop there, Te-doms add actionable steps and contribute their time and energy. They’re with you to the very end.

Te-doms are able to provide an objective measuring stick when I want feedback on anything in life from my performance to my odds. For example, if I’m applying to Harvard Business School, I want to know if I’m a competitive applicant. Te-doms are able to assess my academic qualifications, weigh them against the competition, and provide immediate feedback on areas for improvement. There’s no fuzzy logic, there’s no open-ended answer that’s obscure or ambiguous, and there are no minced words to spare my feelings. Either I’m a competitive applicant or I’m not and if I’m not I’d like to know how I can be. As a Te-dom myself, I’m able to interpret their feedback (which can sound harsh to other types) as well-meaning because in the example above the goal isn’t to sugarcoat my reality or hide my shortcomings– it’s to get me accepted into Harvard. Any type can be blunt and honest, but Te-doms excel in correctly interpreting and leveraging their knowledge of the world around them to complete the mission.

Ti-doms (INTP & ISTP)

Intellectual scalpels, flexible thinkers, and detail oriented I go to Ti-doms when I need to know how something should ideally work because their minds can create a perfect logic. For example, if we’re putting together a project I seek input from Ti-doms to understand how the best version of the final product should look and work under ideal conditions. From there, I apply my Te (practical knowledge, people management, resource management, and execution) to bring that vision to life with tweaks to incorporate real life conditions and constraints (like time and budget) that Ti often overlooks. For Ti-doms, I often ask: “Does this make sense?” Similar to the spell check function in word processing programs, Ti-doms are logic checking types who can comb through a ton of data and flag all the faults. I often throw them all sorts of random ideas, questions, problems, and theories to dissect flaws and identify areas for improvement.

Inferior Fe gives Ti-doms a bad rep as emotionless or rude but I’ve experienced that the majority of them are more authentic than other people precisely because Fe is so low in their stack. They skip the social foreplay and deliver their ideas point blank. The Ti-doms I know are genuinely concerned about disappointing others and will do their best to come through for loved ones, they seem to try harder for other people (ex: in team projects) than for themselves (ex: their own grades).

Se-doms (ESTP & ESFP)

Social firefighters. Se-doms are incredibly adaptable in response to unexpected events and crazy circumstances, they’re my human get-of-jail-free cards when shit hits the fan. Every Se-dom I know (every single one, no exceptions) gets thrown into the most obscene and ridiculous situations so they’ve accumulated a vast library of experiences to leverage when dropped into even more tough spots. I’ve seen Se-doms masterfully maneuver through anything from a technical difficulty during a huge school presentation to stabilizing a complete stranger having a violent seizure in the middle of a movie. It’s a highly prized quality to have mental reflexes that avoid locking up when things go south and that can adjust to respond accordingly. I value their ability to navigate difficult situations with a calm and clear head.

This adaptability and strong Se gives them a fearless characteristic because they’re confident that they can handle whatever life throws at them. Trying new things, going to new places, meeting new people, quickly switching gears, and adopting new techniques aren’t scary and aren’t struggles. I also find hilarious their tendency to panic only after the crisis has passed and they’ve fully processed how awful it was because then we get to hear the best stories when they’re venting. 

Se-doms also have this ability to be fully present and to enjoy the moment for what it is. When we’re out traveling, eating food, seeing sights– they tend to have genuine appreciation for whatever is in front of them whether it’s an intricately prepared dinner or a sweeping view of the mountains. Se-doms have this charming way of making you wish you could see the world through their eyes.

Si-doms (ISTJ & ISFJ)

My world doesn’t work without Si-doms. Period. The most valuable and underrated quality of Si-doms is that they care too much to let you fail. This isn’t always obvious through their trademark exasperation at everyone’s irresponsibility but there’s genuine concern underneath the surface that comes through when the situation calls for it. They’re the most clutch of all the 16 MBTI types simply because they prepare better than everyone else. They’re human safety nets, they’re guardian angels.

I look to Si-doms for consistency which is a rare quality that many people in this world lack. Consistency translates into reliability and reliability translates into trust. I can’t befriend or love someone I can’t trust so making connections with Si-doms comes naturally. When I think about people with selective motivation, errant behavior, and flakiness, I’m even more appreciative of the stability that Si-doms typically bring because their qualities often overlooked, devalued, and taken for granted. They not only come through, they do it with little to no fanfare. If you asked why they’re this way they’d likely reply with an answer that captures the essence of why I appreciate them so much: “if not me, then who?” 

Ne-doms (ENTP & ENFP)

I don’t like Ne-doms so I have nothing to write in this section.

Just kidding. 

Ne-doms are human heart attacks and the cause of all my gray hairs. What I both like and dislike about Ne-doms is their tendency to procrastinate on everything always, cause an immense amount of anxiety that they’re going to screw things up, and then come through spectacularly at the very last second every single time. They somehow always make it happen as if they live in a constant state of last minute everything. I’d rather just have the happy ending without the heart attack but it’s a packaged deal– you have to accept the chaos with the flashes of brilliance because the former produces the latter. 

Their real value in my life is the ability to provide multiple perspectives and alternatives especially in times of trouble. For Ne-doms, the questions are: “What am I missing? What have I overlooked?” and “What are my other options?” It’s the brainstorming and troubleshooting skills that I value because it produces solutions off the beaten path. It’s the mental flexibility that makes them highly adaptable to change, responsive to new inputs, and easy to work with because you can cut them loose and they’ll get it done with minimal direction.

Ni-doms (INTJ & INFJ)

Ni-doms are human magnifying glasses. I value that they can get to the core of the matter, person, or situation quicker than everyone else then relay the information back because they want to solve the issue as fast as possible. I use them as mirrors for my own Ni because it’s important to have other people confirm or modify the conclusions I’ve arrived at. It’s a sanity check. It’s a, “you see what I’m seeing too, right?” I often request Ni-doms to turn their Ni towards me because I trust their insights on my thoughts and behavior. I want to know what they think about who I am, how I project myself, decisions I’ve made, and mistakes I can avoid in the future. We tend to be blind to the faults of those we love and I lean hard on Ni-doms to provide objectivity.

My favorite quality about Ni-doms is that because they’re adept at beating everyone to the punch they have the tendency to pre-emptively remove obstacles before they become problems. Whenever a trip, party, gathering, situation, or anything is running smoothly I always have a sneaking suspicion that it’s that way because the Ni-doms worked silently behind the scenes to clear the path for the rest of us.

Fe-doms (ENFJ & ESFJ)

Fe-doms in my life have a prominent and distinct “leave no man behind” vibe. One of my favorite qualities about them is that they don’t easily give up on people. You get the sense that they love you too much to let you quit even when you’re ready to give up on yourself. Where other people might quickly get annoyed and move on, Fe-doms have the patience to help those who are struggling to get back on their feet. There’s an underrated guardian complex with Fe-doms and they won’t let you down because what’s important to you is important to them.

The biggest problem I used to have with Fe was its tendency to emphasize tone and delivery over actual content in communication. Fe-doms felt oppressive because it seemed like being nice and keeping the peace were more important than telling the truth. What I’ve learned since then is that a clear, logical, and excellent message will not be accepted by another person if that other person feels attacked, patronized, or diminished in any way. When I’m in a rush to accomplish a goal I can often overlook the importance of keeping the team happy, healthy, and intact because I’m so focused on getting to the finish line. Over the years Fe-doms have emphasized (and/or nagged) to drive the point home that an army that’s unhappy, unhealthy, and demoralized becomes ineffective. Beating people down and burning them out jeopardizes the future especially if these same people are needed again. Fe-doms embody the quote: “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This was not only important in refining my skills as a leader and mentor but it’s made me a better person.

Fi-doms (INFP & ISFP)

My favorite quality about Fi-doms is that they’re able to appreciate people and things that don’t fit neatly into the mainstream; the weird, the strange, and the unique. They can find value where other people might be inclined to overlook, dismiss, or discard. I admire that Fi-doms are extremely protective of the underdog, the weak, the defenseless, and the outcast. They’re not always reactive when unkind words or actions are targeted at them, but when it’s directed towards people who can’t defend themselves I’ve seen them transform into hardened gladiators. As someone who has peer counseled troubled kids, I’ve repeatedly seen firsthand the calming effect an Fi-dom has on someone who’s felt out of place his or her entire life. There’s something very natural and organic about how Fi-doms interact with people who don’t quite fit in; it never feels forced, fake, or pushy. It feels welcoming and safe. There’s a “come as you are” vibe to them.

Fi-doms aren’t distracted or impressed by objective measures of success like money, cars, clothes, or social status. Whether or not I make $20,000 a year working at Target or $200,000 a year working in consulting I’m treated exactly the same. They don’t care if I’m driving my old Toyota with the missing hubcap and busted bumper from 10 years ago or my metallic white Mercedes coupe today. Whether I’m the coolest kid on the playground or the weirdest loner in the classroom I can expect to receive the same amount of love and attention from them as long as my behavior is aligned with their personal value system. Fi-doms aren’t easily swayed by public opinions, in fact, they’re almost completely immune to them so I know they’ll give me the benefit of the doubt in the event toxic gossip or malicious rumors. They embody that, “I don’t give a fuck what other people think or say about you. This is how I feel about you. You’re good with me” philosophy. This makes them tremendously loyal friends.

(1/4) hi, I’ve been following your blog for a while and I am impressed by your substantive replies to asks. So, I have a question and it’s a little odd, so I guess I’ll ask you reserve judgement as you answer it. As an intj/p girl, I am very uncomfortable when people express emotion around me (nothing unusual here). However, I have been reading stories on websites like wattpad and archive of our own (AO3) for years and I have only been interested in a very specific category of story.

[cont.] (2/4) These stories always have two main characters: a boy who has been through a lot of abuse who is emotionally unstable (ie. panic attacks, self harm, suicide attempts, emotional dependence) and a girl who fixes him (they fall in love, but I’m not sure that’s important). To be clear, I see myself in the girl who does the fixing.I recognize that my interest in these stories is probably not healthy, but I am more interested in the reason that I am so drawn to this type of story.

(¾) I was thinking that it might have something to do with intjs wanting to improve (optimize) things (does this go for people as well?). Maybe I see the confident, idealistic person they could be if their life had turned out differently. My other thought is that I am intrigued by such raw displays of emotion because it is not something that I often see in myself or others around me and it’s fascinating to imagine what I would do in that scenario (I’d probably be super uncomfortable).

No judgement here; this is quite normal, I think. 

I can think of two reasons, but I’m opening this up to the floor since I’m unsure myself. 

1) I agree with you on how the INTJ desire for improving things and fixing problems also includes people. I think it has something to do with the Ni-Se axis: we see things as they are, but more than that, we see them as they could be. It’s the reason why incompetency infuriates xNTJs: everyone has the potential to do something, to apply effort into being capable and exceptional instead of settling for the average and mediocre, but it’s just being squandered. That’s also why constructive criticism is like a love language by itself to xNTJs.

That being said, as someone who has been there, done that, this desire to fix people or see them being fixed is, in a sense, something you’ll grow out of. You’ll still want to optimise systems and processes for people, but you’ll learn to reserve that for those closest to you and for those who actually appreciate it, because a) not many people like constructive criticism and will probably see it as an attack on their character instead of your way of showing concern, and b) even if they need help, they might not actually want to fix anything. You can’t help anyone who doesn’t want to help themselves, and after a while, you get better at figuring out who these people are and staying away from them. 

Also, I don’t recommend experimenting with those raw displays of emotion you’re intrigued by: they’re utterly draining and not worth it. INTJs envision and daydream many things, but if your visions involve people and social situations, they are probably not going to work out the way you envisioned it. People just suck at following unspoken plans, for one, and INTJs aren’t really that great at improv in things they’re not experts in. Like socialising. 

Example: you could be the coolest person in the world and have an entire conversation or plan worked out, but when you see your crush, your brain will refuse to cooperate, you will be unable to do anything, and you will probably feel like the biggest nitwit in the history of mankind. So yes, you will likely just be super uncomfortable until you mature and inferior Se stops being a pain in the neck. 

2) This could also not be an INTJ thing. The theme of a girl saving a broken boy through her love or whatever is very common in lots of media. It’s a popular storyline, though a more common incarnation is good girl saves bad boy. A lot of people are enamoured of it and basically, the appeal is this: you are so important to someone that they are willing to change just for you. It’s the Power of Love™. 

I don’t know if the love aspect is enthralling, but I suppose for an INTJ, it’s fascinating to have that much power and control over someone (which is actually surrendered willingly because of love yada yada yada)? I know that’s why a good many INTJs can be scared of love; who wants to lose control over themselves, when that’s usually the only variable you can control in this unpredictable world? 

So rest easy, friend. You’re not messed up on the inside, but even if you are, methinks this is not the issue you should be worrying about.
