You ever think about how old people have no idea what “survivor bias” is, and take full credit for being excellent out of things where they lucked out?

“Back in my day we didn’t have any of these childhood protective things, we were smart enough not to do stupid shit on our own!” Except your little neighbour, who got the funniest idea at the age of seven, and got his skull pierced when he slipped?

“Back in my day nobody got divorced, we stuck together and fixed our problems!” What about your cousin, who was slowly killed by her husband because she had nowhere to escape him?

“Back in my day nobody had ‘mental problems’, we didn’t whine, we just toughed it out and endured life!” Hey remember that guy you used to work with, who seemed really friendly and normal, and then suddenly hanged himself ‘for no reason’?

“Back in my day we didn’t have any of this ‘gay’ or ‘transgender’ thing.” You did, but your family cut all ties with her before you were born.

 You kinda start seeing it in everything they think, if you start looking for it.

you know, aside from dropping a slur a minute, ohshc is pretty chill about haruhi’s dad doing drag

like in the episode where they go to haruhi’s apartment, he shows up in drag and stays in drag the whole time, long enough that it ceases to become something Odd and just becomes. well, that’s ranka! the drag doesn’t come off for the more emotional moments. and aside from haruhi treating it nonchalantly (and the rest of the gang catching up pretty fast. you know. despite the slurs.), we also get a flashback where we’re pretty much explicitly told that haruhi is Not Ashamed of her dad. that her mom wasn’t either.

and also my personal favorite of that episode, in the supermarket flashback, he’s pretty clearly also in drag there, but it looks a lot less practiced. like he’s actively gotten better at it over time! i love that detail.

i’m also thinking about the wonderland episode, where haruhi’s dad is out of drag for a Professional Meeting with the school’s dean, but later, during the courtroom scene, the minute that “the king” ceases to be an antagonistic force, he pulls off that disguise and reveals! hey! it’s ranka! in haruhi’s dream, her dad as a positive force is him dressed as a woman!

all i’m saying is. ouran high school host club can be a bit Iffy and Weird about gender things sometimes, but it’s too easy to take away the credit it’s due. this is the transgender anime of all time for a reason.

remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.

For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.

Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.

Blackmail held over someone’s head just to force them to flirt and make romantic advances on another person, so it looks like they wanted this relationship. Talks about marriage and happily ever afters together as a threat. “I love you, I love you, I love you” as a violation that you’re expected to smile at and be grateful for, because you’re supposed to want to be loved. noncon romance.

adding to this: feeling love against your will. love forced on you by some power beyond you. love that you know you wouldn’t feel if you weren’t blessed (cursed) by it. love that you don’t want and is ruining you and that everyone keeps praising you for feeling. love that everyone around you gets mad at you for rejecting anyway. love that’s made so overpowering that it wipes out any semblance of “you” that there is to make way for a thing that will love someone back.
