I finally did it…

I’ve been “threatening” it for years, but I finally made it back to England. A local church went and needed another tenor, so away I went! It was a ten-day trip, mostly centered around a Wesleyan theme (hello, Methodists!) and a special eve at St Paul’s.

St Paul’s Cathedral was *everything* I hoped it would be. We sang an evensong, and the next night I went and heard their choristers sing. My only regret was not being allowed to cantor the evensong we did. But so much wow there, gang. (I did not, in fact, feed any birds on those steps.)

They are indeed purple, But one thing you’ve missed: The concept of “purple” Didn’t always exist.

Some cultures lack names For a color, you see. Hence good old Homer And his “wine-dark sea.”

A usage so quaint, A phrasing so old, For verses of romance Is sheer fucking gold.

So roses are red. Violets once were called blue. I’m hugely pedantic But what else is new?

I'm raising cash for One Tree Planted

I’ve decided to raise some money for a favorite non-profit of mine, One Tree Planted.

Global reforestation is a real possibility, and something each of us can participate in. It’s a hopeful thing. I’ve set a small fundraising goal, as I’m not typically a fundraiser, more a “let me quietly fund this thing and disappear into the shadows” person.

But I’d like for as many people as possible to feel that they, as individuals, can participate in fixing something.

You may not be able to personally stop all the wrongs you see in the world, but dang it, you can get a tree in the ground that will capture some carbon.

Bonus: There’s a picture of me wearing an alpaca hat in the middle of a snowstorm.
