every time I see those "you have to go Log Off and Be In the Real World to do Real Leftism & Anarchism" posts I just unfollow, mute, and am assured that this person is wildly ableist
You can teach people online
You can raise funds & support mutual aid online
You can connect people & build communities online
You can provide peer counseling & support online
You can talk to people without being at deadly risk of COVID online
You can locate resources for people online
You can even create & build things online, like 3D printing designs, for others to use. In 2020, a street medic collective created 3D printable eyewash cups to help the hundreds of thousands of people being tear gassed. You can absolutely bet a lot of disabled, exclusively-online leftists & anarchists printed those out and got them to their local medical collectives & mutual aid groups.
You can *talk to people* online which is huge if you're nonverbal/selectively mute or cognitively impaired or autistic or any other form of neurodivergence or disability that makes real-time in person communication difficult
There's a raging, unmitigated pandemic & I have spent years trying to find enough leftists & anarchists willing to mask & be COVID-safe so they can include me and my skills & knowledge & willingness to help. That's been vanishingly rare because most of the so-called left & anarchist community is not just ableist but actively eugenicist.
There's no difference between "online" and "offline," merely the extent to which any particular activity may be suited or hindered by being in person or electronic.
If you cannot grasp that, you need to sit with your expectations because they're ableist & exclusionary.
If your revolution or movement cannot happen unless it is exclusionary to the disabled, it is merely another kind of eugenics.
I don't get to be "in the real world" because y'all are violently exclusionary & have ensured there is not a single safe space left for the immunocompromised. My life is worth more than your little project & I will not throw away what is left of my health, of my life, to prove myself to y'all.
You want more people involved in your project or movement? Make it inclusive of the disabled & exclusionary to eugenicists, to ableists, to bigots, to fascists, to whatever form of hate & prejudice that is keeping people from joining, which starts with examining fundamental principles, ethics, and practice.
The most radical projects are mask blocs, which are mostly run by immunocompromised people with significant mobility and cognitive disabilities. They get their funding & resources online, and at great personal cost to themselves, distribute masks while the rest of y'all LARP around and ignore the pandemic.
That celebrated food not bombs movement? They're not masking & they're not distroing masks.
Those John Brown Gun Clubs? Same thing, only with more classism, more ableism.
The drag brunches are endangering the very communities they claim to be protecting, & ensuring that we immunocompromised, disabled queers are shut out from our communities.
I'm not impressed at all with "offline" organizing. Most of it is ineffectual & feckless and above all, deadly.
It's been three years & y'all continue to refuse to center COVID safety & immunocompromised needs which means you're refusing to center other disability needs, and I strongly suspect you're allowing a lot more forms of prejudice to swirl around your social circles too.
When you become too disabled to do anything "real" in the "real world," you inevitable come to us survivors of this viral holocaust, lamenting how useless you think you are, asking for our help & our ideas when we told you all along-- be safe & inclusive for disabled people & you would succeed.
Instead you kill us "for the greater good" and never once stop to think of the cost of your projects, your beliefs, your goals, because you refuse to admit that you were, in fact, the problem all along, not the people forced to survive on the internet.
