I remember a drama that happened recently where someone asked their IRL boyfriend to be in a poly relationship with a….fictional character. The whole yume/self ship community was torn between “your boyfriend doesn’t understand, throw him away and focus on the pixel one” and “girl, I get it, but you’re literally pushing boundaries and need to seek help.” That paraphilia, especially indulging in it, became harmful to not only themselves but to the person they were in a relationship with. That isn’t saying that everyone who selfships is like it, just that it happens.

the conversation isn’t black and white, nor will I indulge that it is. We can, and should, have conversations about it. But we can only progress forward when we come to understand fully not only what one side believes and what the other side believes. Yes, and I find it hypocritical since the most used arguments of proshippers is "fiction doesn't affect reality" and selfship is like a direct example of that sentence being untrue. Not sure what you thought you were doing. I said that a lot of antishippers are selfshippers because you generalise antishippers as anti selfship as a whole when it is not true. I have seen anti selfship proshippers but I don't say all of them are against selfship, do I?

It was a comparison. The "antishipper community" (I don't see how else to call antishippers as a whole) is fast and huge. Being against or pro selfshipping is not a stance of antishipper. The term antishipper is neutral on selfship. Now. Many antishippers are selfshippers.

The queer community, in itself, doesn't have any real political stance except "we need rights etc...", but many queer people are leftists or close to the left. But there are also conservative queers. The comparison is that you cannot generalise a whole community like that.

Being attracted to fictional characters is something that happens to everyone, I fear. That clearly doesn't fit into paraphilia. Also, indulging in non harmful paraphilias in a safe way is not bad, I fear? The paraphilia didn't become harmful, that's not how harmful paraphilias work.

The whole drama feels stupid too. You can't expect your partner to love a fictional character like you but you can expect them to accept that you selfship. It's not cheating or whatever. This is pretty much very logical if you want my opinion.

i don't identify as a proshipper, bud. i reject both labels. my views are based purely on the basis of ethics. i have beliefs from both sides of the argument--i just am a bit more skewed proshipper mainly for the censorship issue. remove censorship from the equation and i am pretty neutral, because i think constructive discourse is healthy.
