So I was talking to a male acquaintance last weekend, while at my usual gay bar for karaoke. While we talked, he mentioned that he’d had a bad PlentyofFish date a week or so prior and he’d liked this girl but realized they were looking for different things. Now, this guy is pretty damn cute, sings well, etc. I’m in the process of divorcing so I decided to take the shot and say, “That’s a pity. Given the chance, I’d date you.” Granted, I didn’t expect much. His response was, “Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re not my type. But I’d love to be friends, etc.” Apparently, he’s into skinny blondes and I’m neither. But I figured sure, he’s still a nice guy, so we talk for a bit and he mentions a good wing joint near him, “Oh yeah I should take you there some time.” Then when he leaves, I ask if we can exchange numbers, so we can just chat. At this point I’m not even interested in anything past friendship. I give him my phone and he puts a number in. I text him to give mine and say the usual “drive safe” that I do with any of my friends. That’s a HUGE deal for me. I’m pretty sure he gave me a fake number... so let’s see what happens if he shows this week.
Let me add that I don’t believe in “types”...I think people can be attracted to certain traits but types are unrealistic. Also, made me sad that a person would rather find a date online than meet and get to know another person organically.
