PETRI SPORES /
A combination of ink, water, marbling oils, tonic water and digital post production were used to create this series. 'Grown' inside petri dishes, I made several lifts from each dish to create a print. After some minor retouching and hue alterations I was left with these! Part microbial, part cosmic - these artworks were re-printed at high resolution and exhibited inside petri dishes on heavy gauge gloss card. I wanted to create something a little less predictable to hand out at an exhibition, but something that would act as a signifier of my interest within scientific experimentation.

Benthic Geometry
Vector graphic illustrations inspired by microscopic marine organisms. The complex, symmetrical forms found deep in the ocean are both alien and beautiful - ideal influence for an extensive body of mathematical compositions.

THE BIOPOD
An art and science kit for children aged 7+. Create your own glowing petri dish paintings inspired by bioluminescence. This educational bundle contains a 16 page illustrated bioguide; providing an insight into the beautiful World of bioluminescence. Includes photographs of bioluminescent organisms from the depths of the oceans to the fertile breadth of the forests.
The BIOPOD was designed to inspire children; applying biological and scientific theory for creative outputs. It is an experience, a concept for a proposed educational tool that puts content ahead of profitable return. It contains genuine laboratory apparatus that will get children excited. From the packaging to the layouts of each individual page within the bioguide, this concept was produced by an illustration and visual communication student; thoroughly intrigued in the interdisciplinary world of art and science.

ENGRAVING
PLANS FOR AN ARCHITECT
This was a 30 minute self-directed project using adobe illustrator. Writing my thesis has exposed me to many articles on architecture of the future, and biomimicry in design. I'm captivated by the fluidity and organic form that designers like Ross Lovegrove and Thomas Heatherwick achieve. This is what I did during my break - perhaps one day I'll live and work in structures like these.

GREYSCALE GEOMES
Produced for Greyscale Rainbow and as part of a further series of benthic geome works. I'm currently putting together an animation that will taken viewers on an imaginary dive to the bathypelagic zone. These are a few text experiments to insert into an immersive animation.

L u m i
A sound responsive lighting concept using electroluminescent wire. The product is simple. You have two interlocking perspex domes that contain a series of holes. You thread the wire through these holes however you want. Put on some music, and your Lumi will pulse to it.
Or if you just want an ambient glow, at the flick of a switch you can deactivate the sound responsive device. Powered by a simple DC supply, the Lumi offers its user an interactive and customisable lighting experience. Perfect for older children and teenagers to experiment with.

CORAL INSPIRED FABRIC SAMPLES
A reef of colour. These compositions will be digitally printed to assess their visual impact on fabrics that are both responsibly sourced and have fluid movement. I'm designing a series of phosphorescent harem pants that mimic the gentle swaying of corals; Whilst generating a calming glow in low light.
HYDRO BRAND IDENTITY
Gif design for a lenticular printed business card design.
Hydro/designs are marine inspired. Current designs follow these 5 principles:
re-contextualized
re-purposed
re-designed
re-usable
recyclable and biodegradable
Instead of manufacturing new products, the hydro range comprises of content that follows principles 1 to 3, contained within packaging that follows principles 4 and 5.
Our range covers:
Creativity & discovery kits for children
Phosphorescent lighting
Multi-sensory products
Sustainable and renewable lighting concepts
Designs for marine conservation campaigns
We are also developing a virtual hub, that makes marine education more engaging and easier to filter through the incredible vast expanse of Oceanographic learning.
Our goal is to instil a new found respect for the Ocean environment, by engaging children and adults with products that celebrate the beauty of marine life. In turn, we hope our responsible approach to design and education commands respect for the Ocean, that it so desperately needs.

PATTERN
I have filled sketchbooks, covered canvases, walls, shoes, MDF boards, zippo lighters, hip flasks, spoons and even people with these designs. Drawn, engraved, carved, painted or printed I find the very making of these compositions to be so therapeutic. Send me something to decorate!

VIBRONACCI
A living light installation. By taking part in the art and science project Broadvision I was privileged enough to collaborate with a human and medical sciences student, Benjamin Palmer. A fusion of mathematics, organic matter and plenty of head scratching led to our design and proposal of a bioluminescent installation. The theme for Broadvision 3 in 2013 was 'Data, Truth & Beauty.'
I took this as an opportunity to widen my approach to visual communication, and embrace new mediums; From welding to bacteria culturing. In addition, I got the opportunity to work in a new and challenging environment. A laboratory demands precision and competence - an experience that has led to me taking a more methodical approach to creativity.
Benjamin and I wanted to celebrate the beauty of bioluminescent bacteria and produce an installation that would live and die in a gallery space. We were inspired by tentacle forms, belonging to many species of squid that utilise bioluminescence in the wild. To read into the concept further...

Our installation was exhibited alongside other Broadvision collaborators at GV Art Gallery, London in May 2013.
*As with any living tissue, we had to change our bacteria culture from vibrio fischeri (hence Vibronacci) to photo bacterium phosphoreum at the last minute. Big thanks to Dr. Simon Park! The major difference is the light produced by the bacteria.

Bringing the Benthic Geometry series to life. These short animations are influenced by the alien forms of the marine abyss, accompanied by audio samples from a range of musicians. With the addition of subtle pitch, frequency and rpm adjustments. I wanted to create a digital aquarium of microbial organisms that reflect the mysterious qualities of marine dwelling cells.
I started using Aphex Twin as the main accompaniment, but since I have connected with a handful of incredibly talented musicians to select tracks and samples that give this body of work more credibility - and less of a showreel of 'fan video animations.'
