Movies not having subtitles is ableist. I don’t care if it’s an old movie, if you can put it on dvd you can add subtitles. The obvious reason, of course, is for the deaf and hard of hearing who absolutely still deserve to enjoy movies. That should be enough reason to add them, but it also helps neurodivergent people or anyone with auditory processing issues, or people who don’t speak the language or don’t speak it well, or even just people whose house is loud. There’s literally no reason not to make them an option and I honestly think they should be mandatory on every dvd release.
This aged very well in just two weeks.
actually when I was in 8th grade and obsessed with twilight my master plan as a twilight vampire was to sit around in famous shipwrecks like the super deep ones where they can only send robots with cameras from their submarines and when they sent one down i’d be sitting there, pretending to drink out of an old tea cup you know for the drama of it all and the guys in the submarine would know what they saw and that it was real footage but who else would believe them? no one important.
but it didn’t stop there. at the next party they threw to celebrate one of their latest finds, some museum-y banquet idk I was 13, I was going to show up. I was going to show up and make eye contact with them one at a time from across the room and they were going to lose their goddamn minds and then before the volturi could catch wind i was gonna be back in the ocean. how could they find me?
the drama. the theatrics. i can’t believe i didn’t realize i was gay right then but that’s another story, also involving vampires,
hate to burst your fantasy, but
1) vampires don’t show up in film
2) vampires can’t cross moving water much less sit at the bottom of the ocean
you’ve got me a in a difficult position here because on the one hand, this post is specifically about vampire lore in Twilight, so you’re wrong, but on the other hand, saying “you clearly didn’t read twilight” doesn’t exactly make you look like the bad guy here
"how did you hear about this job?" it came to me in an extremely vivid and unsettling prophetic dream
"congratulations! you're hired" i know.
Reminder that it costs more daily to keep someone in prison than most prisoners have ever stolen and certainly much more than it'd cost to fix the poverty that drives almost all crime, it just exists to scare people out of hurting corporate profit and you foot the bill woth your taxes.
I Contain Multitudes And They Are All Incredibly Annoying
having one of those executive function days where everything is too many steps
by which i mean, like, here's how my brain parses the steps in making coffee
good day:
make coffee
regular day:
put water in coffee maker
put coffee in coffee maker
turn on coffee maker
bad day:
take pot from coffee maker
turn on sink
fill up coffee pot
turn off sink
pour water into coffee maker
put coffee pot in coffee maker
open cupboard
get coffee filter from cupboard
get coffee beans from cupboard
put filter in coffee pot
measure coffee
pour coffee into filter
close coffee maker
turn coffee maker on
anyway this is a "14 steps to make coffee" kind of day
This is actually a really good way of explaining this

John Cena and an elderly white woman are sitting at a small table with a tea set on it. They are talking.
John: "...my hand in front of my face-"
Woman: "oh, that is (something)-"
John: "-and I say 'you can't see me' (said in a calm voice while waving hand in front of face) but I don't say it like that I say (intensely, with hand wave) 'you can't see me!'" A clip of the 'John Cena' theme song plays during the intense version of the phrase. The screen changes colors and zooms in on his face during the song.
Woman: "oh, it's gotta be (intensely, in a good impression of the way John said it) 'you can't see me!'" The same song clip plays again during her impression, and the screen again changes color and zooms.
John: *pauses for a moment in surprise* "that's fantastic, I'm out of a job."
Woman: *chuckles* "I can't wrestle."
John: "They say that about me too, don't worry about it."

Everyone everywhere has always had a concept of “the last straw” or “death by a thousand cuts” or “the tipping point” and yet when people tried to coin the very reasonable term “microaggression” for how even “small” forms of discrimination build up and can ruin someone’s life, it got mocked and sneered at so hard that the term fizzled and died and now there’s no convenient way to explain what it’s like for someone to experience an insidiously slow burn of hostile or ignorant treatment without it summoning the 4chan meme brigade
