I think I once heard Charles Martinet say at a panel, the script for Mario Teaches Typing 2 had Mario telling the player negative things if they failed but he himself changed the lines and instead said things like “That was great, but I know you can do even better” and “That wasn’t as fast as last time..let’s try again” because in his mind he had already decided that he wanted Mario to be always loving

the merthur dynamic is just so unparalleled. they both think the other is less powerful than they are. they’re both the most powerful in their respective fields. they call each other useless. they would die protecting each other. they have one brain cell combined when together. they argue and bicker. they have never felt more love than for the other. they stare each other down like their lives depend on it. they would never admit to saying something kind about the other. they would kill anyone else who insulted him. they need one another like they need air, and they make it everyone’s problem, but if you ask them directly they’d never admit to it. undoubtedly they’d burn down the world to get the other back.
