KICK THE CAN!
Let’s play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.
To kick the can, reblog it. I wanna see how long this can go on for.
the oldest reblogs for this post that i can find are from january 2nd of 2013. this can has been getting kicked around tumblr for almost 13½ years now
And yet somehow this is my first time kicking it!
Growing up with your starters

The captions are also really cute, although they mostly describe what’s in each photo:
Bulbasaur: Somehow, nomming on my clothes… has become a weird habit of theirs.
Venusaur: That hasn’t changed now that they’ve grown, but they’re very gentle.
Charmander: It’s my first attempt, but I made a plushie so that he wouldn’t get lonely.
Charizard: That plushie seems to be his favorite even now.
Squirtle: Squirtle’s a bit timid and hides behind me at the smallest things.
Blastoise: Looks like they’re scared of the first Pichu they’ve seen. You’re not really hiding!

This is adorable
They just posted some more!

If I ever don’t reblog this, kill me
Finally finished my cross stitch bracelet project I have been working on for a while.
Have you ever seen a violinist going APESHIT?!
Be sure to check out IAmDSharp!
GO OFFF
Ok so I’ve been playing for 18 years and i’m a string teacher. Can i just say how IMPORTANT it is for young kids to see a BLACK, MALE-PRESENTING PERSON playing, nae, SHREDDING on a violin? I’ve know maybe 5 black people who played stringed instruments throughout my schooling and teaching (predumably because i’m an upper middle class white woman). In districts where the population is predominantly black, funding is always low, so the instruments are crappy. Kids quit, or the program is dismantled. I’ve seen very few professional string players who are black.
Obviously there are black string players. We just don’t see them because they “don’t look like” string players.
This person is the real deal. They were clearly classically trained, and seems to have some fiddle training as well. How cool is that?
But also… RAD PLAYING MY DUDEEEE
this is the coolest guy alive actually
I think this might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life that involves a violin
*while sewing*: you are a fabric. you can stay a fabric. you do not yearn to return to being string.
*while spinning*: you are a thread. you can stay a thread. you do not yarn to return to being fluff.
*while embroidering*: you are a thread on a needle. you can just exist as thread on a needle. you do knot yearn to become a tangle.
*while turning wood* you are timber on a lathe. You can stay as timber on a lathe. You do not yearn to become a live hand grenade.
*while adding chemicals to a reaction* you are a stable substance. you are neither too hot nor too agitated. you do not yearn to explode violently and poison everyone in the building.
*Whilst throwing pottery* You are a wonderful mug. You can stay as a wonderful mug with walls. You do not yearn to return to a horrible lump of dirt.
*while doing digital art* you are a paint bucket tool. you will fill only inside these lines. you do not yearn to turn the entire canvas into your color
fixed it
I’m paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD
Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️
Reblog to have your dashboard be visited by the spirit of joy that death can end but not erase.
Thank you to everyone who commented in their tags or messaged me. Indeed, today is “Martin and Bosco Day”. I originally whimsically blazed this photo on 13 July 2022. I never expected Martin and Bosco to travel so far and make so many new friends. The experience has been such a gift for me.

The zebra are Dyeing
A few weeks ago at a craft fair I got the idea to try doing some yarn dyeing using plants was born. The plan was to use Lupine flowers. A plant that is invasive where I live so it would be a win-win. Last weekend that plan got put into action.
Fourtunately I had the perfect yarn for this little experiment: some handspunn eider wool yarn that had been gifted to me by the lovely and talented @definitelynotanarchfey .
Friday I procured a nice big pot for dyeing thing in from the second hand store.
Saturday
Saturday was mordening day. The yarn got taken out of their ball form and tied (not very expertly) into hanks. For mordant I used potassium alum.
After some initial trouble i managed to get the mordant bath to temperature. Turns out our little induction plate don't do pots this big, so fire it was. And with the yarn prepared and drying that was the end of the first day.
Sunday
The actual dyeing day. I started by going out to gather some invasive plants, while thunder sounded in the distance. I returned home with a shopping bag full of the things. I might have gotten a bit carried away
A this point I decided to make an experiment. You see, I had both the dark purple flowers and I had also collected quite a bit of the pink ones. And i wondered, what will the diffrence in colour be? And since i had 2 prepared hanks of yarn I decided to test it out. So for bath one I used the pink flowers as well as some of the stalks. Resulting in a nice tea coloured dye bath
Forbidden noodles in broth
For dye bath two I decided to use only the purple flowers. In total there was about 400g of flower in the bath.
this resulted in a very diffrently coloured bath, this one a dark, dull, purple.
More... soup?
In both cases the yarn was simmered for about an hour after comming up to temperature, and then left to rest in the dye baths for another couple of hours. Before being rinsed and washed.
The result:
The pink flowers gave me a lovely yellowish spring green colour while the purple flowers resulted in a darker more blue toned green. I am very pleased with both of these colours. Tho it remains to see how stable they are over time.
This was a fun experiment and i am already planning to do some more dyeing in the future. I still have one more untreated hank of the eider wool yarn. For this one I will probably try onion peel next.
However I am aware of some other plants near me that will also be collected and dried for future use. Just as I am doing with the excess lupine flowers :)
I kinda love how you had to use actual fire. Also that yarn turned out beautifully. Definitely supporting these experiments with more yarn!
The fire did help with the vibes. But was a pain for temperature control. Even the lowest flame setting on the burner did go too hot so i had to manually baby the temperature more than on the electric stove.
I appreciate the continued fiber support ❤️

Some more ceramic critters from earlier in the spring! A few more posts and I'll finally, briefly, be caught up on the sold work backlog 😅
