heads up so nobody is confused - just changed my blog name from sizzleitup-with-taako to rose-coloured-boy. still using the old one, but it'll now take you to the train-wreck of a blog i use to save all my references for art, etc.
also i had NOT seen the full podcast episode when i posted this because i didn't have time to watch it after work last night but i saw this clip on tiktok before i went to bed and now i'm kind of mad at myself that i posted it without having seen the full context of the 10+ minute conversation that continues after this. not that it changes my interpretation just that i wouldve been able to say go watch the full thing too! so anyway highly reccomend watching the full thing or at least this full segment because they get a lot more into it. such as how people's kneejerk reaction when demi talks about this is to go "but *i* was well intentioned when i said that!" and then. every comment on this clip was people doing Exactly That

I have a few things lined up for TDoV today but here’s this years painting.
This time around I’ve done an 80’s au version, I know i do these ‘in the mirror’ images a lot, it’s just very close to my heart. I spent so many years looking in the mirror and not recognizing who I saw looking back at me, probably since i was about 13, until sometime in my mid 30s. It’s a really weird and uncomfortable feeling. I like to draw Carrie seeing the person she’ll become when she can one day, when she’s safe and able to live freely. Until then, Caro exists inside her, cheering her on. And one fine day, Caro will wake up and look in the mirror and go, oh! There you are. I’ve been dreaming of you my entire life. ✨

shortest possible story is that he he got arrested and hospitalized after walking around outside at night, MAYBE having 'an episode', MAYBE he was drunk, maybe he was high, maybe he was just being loud, who knows. Dude was outside at night in boxers and cowboy boots and that's all he did to "invite" police interaction.
But cops claimed he assaulted them so he gets arrested. Then goes to the hospital. Then goes back into custody.
And then he's not heard of for a while, then days later says he's out and okay. But facing FELONY charges!

Almost a year later, Lil Nas X is out of a mental health rehab program, looking good, saying he feels really good, and seems to be on the way up after all of this. I'm really happy for him. I hope he has good genuine support in his life through family, friends, and folks rooting on him that he can count on.
I am really disappointed but not surprised how quickly a lot of media support for him disappeared, especially queer papers. An interview from before the police incident really highlighted how many people wanted him to fail and wanted to see him fall, including certain pockets within communities that should have has his back.
Happy Happy Pride to Lil Nas X. I hope nothing but good things come his way.

"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)
Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".
Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH
