itās sooo funny when rude customers encounter employees who can deny them service for the first time.
i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mineāan N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.
so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said ādamn. never known a woman to chooseā¦practicality over looks.ā
And I just said, āoh. you can go, youāre not getting a drink.ā And he said, āwhat???ā
I said, āsir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.ā
And he was so astonished he didnāt even argue he just turned around and left ššš» it was like he suddenly became self aware
One summer I was running ferry rides across a lake so people could see the waterfalls without walking 6 miles when a guy snapped my bra strap as he was boarding the boat. So i immediately threw him off, he started yelling for my manager, my boss cheerfully informed him that, yeah, sheās the captain of the boat and she can kick off anyone she wants. He goes to storm off, looks expectantly at his girlfriend, and she just goes, āWell, IāM not walking six miles, Michael! Iāll meet you back at the car!ā and sits right back down!!!!
The expression on his face when he was told that he couldnāt get on the boat, then immediately told that his girlfriend was ditching him? PRICELESS. he just blinked at her and then stormed off like a child. I gave her a free hat and was like maybe rethink this relationshipā¦ā¦.
i once had this fucker come up to order a beer. while i pour it he shows me the wanky fucking chemical structure tattoo on his arm and heās like āhey. you know what this isā i was like ānah sorryā (never cared abt chemistry in school, plus having to look at a some randoās pretentious tattoo gives me the douche chills). he decides to respond with āheh. you must not read many booksā
i immediately stop pouring his beer. i reply: āheh. you must not want this beer.ā thirsty boy immediately starts groveling like a worm āplease please no i do want the beer im sorry im sorryā believe me when i say it was one of the most pathetic things ive ever witnessed
gotta love people immediately backpedaling when they realise that there are Consequences To Being Mean
I genuinely believe that part of why it has become so normalized to be openly callous and evil in politics is that customer service culture has trained affluent people that they can treat everyone they consider beneath them however they want and still be treated kindly.
we canāt keep letting him get away with this
link in majora's mask being helpful and heroic to all terminians but having the option to blow up the guy who ruined kafei and anju's engagement is so funny

i'd make a comic abt this but it's been said so many times that i cba, BUT it is kinda funny how trans people can't have any orientation without it being invalidated.
alr, this is easily to explain with examples.
so take me, a trans guy for instance:
if i'm straight, then i'm "a lesbian with internalised homophobia"
if i'm gay, then i'm "a straight girl fetishising gay men"
if i'm aro/ace, then i must be "sexually traumatised"
if i'm bi, then i'm all of the above
any other orientation? "you just made that up for attention"
you can never meet these people's standards of a 'model trans personā¢ļø' because they think we're inherently deviants. there is no point in pandering to them. you will never be 'one of the good ones'.
Today a random clip of a F1nn5ter Q&A stream found its way into my feed.
Someone asked F1nn why it was that on her larger branded social media accounts she still listed herself as a femboy in some places while in more intracommunity spaces she more readily and comfortably identified as transfem.
Now, depending on who you ask that kind of question to you'll probably get a meandering answer on the complexities of how one defines their own identity. But instead F1nn gave a very quick and simple answer.
She gets less death threats or other general threats of violence from people when she calls herself a femboy vs calling herself transfem. It wasn't any deeper than that, and some people in her audience understood that, while others were confused that femboys were more palatable to cis people than transfems.
Another Clip of F1nn made its way across my feed today, she she mentioned a little bit more on the difference on being known as a Transfem streamer vs her old Femboy days.
"As soon as I came out as trans, it felt like everyone was an asshole and I had to adapt to it again...I don't know, people just don't like it if you're not [just] some funny guy."
Seems legit
we all hear about kudzu being introduced as "erosion control" in the South but I don't think contemporary people understand on a gut level what that means
these are images from a 1930s pamphlet that endorsed kudzu, entitled "stop gullies: save your farm"
It was Bad.
Invasive plants need to be understood as part of a much larger cycle of incredible violence against the land.
For context: erosion on that scale occurred as a result of our clear-cutting entire states. The land east of the Mississippi used to be covered in old-growth forest to an extent that we literally canāt imagine anymore, because most of us have never seen a forest over 100 years old. It turns out if you remove all vegetation from a landscape, you end up with a bunch of loose soil ready to move downstream. A fast-growing plant that covers everything in dense vegetation sounds like salvation when youāre surrounded by 40-foot deep gullies that get wider with every rainstorm.
A lot of the south too was covered in Canebreaks, basically bamboo forests like a lot of South Asia, I don't know the specifics of the ecology, but bamboo being a grass I assume is rhizomatic like other grasses and forms a big net of roots that prevent erosion. *I assume* (pleez ecologists weigh in)
Yes, the destruction of Canebrakes was a direct cause of this erosion we see here. Canebrakes were destroyed, using slave labor, to make room for cotton plantations. You can read about it here.
Canebrakes built up incredibly rich, fertile soil and are amazing at preventing erosion. They form incredibly strong mats of rhizomes. And their roots are known to go 10 feet deep into the soil.
The erosion we see in these pictures was a result, very much directly, of the Canebrakes being destroyed.
This is a case study in how violence against ecosystems goes so closely hand in hand with violence against people. The violence against the indigenous caretakers of the land, and the violence against the enslaved captives that were forced to clear the Rivercane and work the cotton fields that would degrade the soil into nothing.
Autistic girl conditioned through a lifetime of trauma to be deathly afraid of waking people up because what if they're loud and angry and violent: uuhm,...,,., ma'am are you okay, the bus is, around the, corner,,,,,, ,, were you, waiting for thhe bus, ,,, ,
do Not call me Bocchi-coded i will cry because you're 150% correct
before my egg cracked, i had noticed that trans people were often pro-accessibility and up-to-date on the needs of disabled people, but i hadnāt seen any inherent connection between the two (other than the obvious minority-looking-out-for-other-minority thing). but now that iām trans and medically transitioning, and i have to constantly repeat myself while talking to doctors and nurses, and explain things about my own anatomy to medical staff who should already know this, and having every single problem i might have blamed on myĀ āconditionā so nothing i say is taken seriously, all of the sudden i have a little sneak peak into the life of someone who has to deal with this all the time. like shit bro, being disabled probably sucks ass, someone should do something about this
happy disability pride month, we all deserve autonomy and respect and access to medication
