@rtfics
The very best ending.
I've said all I can about Project Hail Mary.
I'll close this blog, for now anyway, with this.
Sound on.
"Dr. Captain Ryland Grace."
Sound on.
Love her smile and head tilt in reaction to Rocky. And raising her forefinger in acknowledgement of Grace. Stratt uses the Eridian goodbye . She never got to say goodbye to him. She knows she'll be dead before any message from Earth about receiving the beetles and him being a hero ever reaches Erid.
PHM NOVEL SPOILER:
This scene isn't in the book. In the novel we don't know what became of Stratt. We only know that Earth received the beetles because the Erdian scientists tell Grace Earth's sun is back to full illumination.
Weir's ending may have been more realistic, but this additional scene makes the film much more satisfying.
Do you think the family and friends and lovers and all others who knew them-Yao and Ilyukhina-in their heart of hearts held onto the belief that their loved ones will still be alive in space long into time? Like time dilation, right? Hail Mary is moving faster than the speed of light and all that, so Grace is still as he was on Earth but Eva has grown old. So do you think Yao's kids ( he had kids right? He had pictures of kids...) would look into the sky 5 years/10 years/20 years from launch and would think/hope, "dad's still there. I have gotten older but I hope dad's still here. Light years away sure-and he won't return sure but at least Dad's somewhere here in this universe. Just as he been the day he left." Is it a comfort or torture? DuBois family or friends or whoever he had surely grieved his death caused by the accident. It is a definitive end. So what happens then? Is there comfort in the thought that a loved one is out there in space and they will be there ages from now and they are still as they have been on Earth, and maybe they will be there when you are drawing your last breathe? or is it a wound that will never fill? cause you mourn the fact that you will never see them, they are as good as dead because they will never come back from the cold of space. It's a suicide mission but everytime you look up at the sky, you think they might still be alive and you feel guilty for mourning. Because how do you grieve who is still out there? And what if it brings bad luck? They might still be there and working to send home a solution and all of this can't be for nothing and they need all the prayers and all the luck and all the hail Marys they can get! God I can't stop thinking about this movie!
Grace when he was being injected with the sedative.
Charles Caleb Colton: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Oscar Wilde: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness."
I never heard about the Warner Brothers 2023-2024 anime-imitation series My Adventures with Superman until today. I stumbled across one scene, in which Clark Kent first transforms into Superman.
Watching it all I could think was
Here's the most important part of the scene, in which Clark has entered the spaceship from Krypton buried in his adoptive parents' corn field:
Recognize it? If you know anything about Disney animation of the 1990s, you should.
Compare:
Superman even used the same shade of blue.
I mean, did the show's creators SERIOUSLY think no one who would see the similarity?
Would they say it's an homage to Disney's Atlantis?
I despise people who copy original ideas without acknowledging the originals.
One of my favorite songs set to my currently favorite movie.
Sound on.
This is brilliant.
Love this.
Sound definitely on.
Teacher Grace.
I fucking love that, as a teacher, Grace defers to the kids' parents and says, "I'm not sure it should come from me."
This is in STARK and delightful contrast to what is currently happening in K-12 schools today. Where teachers ignore what parents want completely, in fact if they're told not to teach children something they go behind the parents' backs. Public schools teachers these days try to room kids in their own beliefs and kinks, telling kids to keep it "secret." When I worked in a children's library connected to a public school we told kids that any adult to told them to keep secrets from their parents were dangerous and needed to be reported. Because that's what pedophiles do.
So here's Dr. Grace, respecting that these kids aren't his kids, and wanting to inform them and hopefully alleviate their anxiety, but not usurp the parents' authority.
I love him more and more.
Sound on.
That one little girl is such a fucking bummer. I hope someone stole her lunch.
"I can't do it."
Sound on.
is this anything
Oh dear, Stratt accidentally recruited RONALD Grace, Ryland's evil scientist twin.
Sound on.
Yeah, he'll go die in space, no problem. Life is shit and then you die. But he wants the ship stuffed with tons of booze, drugs, and porn so horrible it's illegal in most of the world.
He's gonna WRECK astrophage BUTT.
Who Else Is Ready For A Cold Autumn October Night?! 🎃👻
Hey, the reindeer were on vacation, so the Goth girls were helping him distribute toys.
The most terrifying scene in a movie I've ever watched.
And I'm including Sinners.
Sound on.
I've said it elsewhere, but when I watched this in the movie theater first my blood turned cold, then I viscerally felt horror.
Ryland grace and his clothing which almost always features a red line esp when he’s on earth
And he always has his red watch and red lined converse !
Fated for the petrova like since the beginning
"We're On Our Way Home."
Sound on.
