best concept ever is percy being a cryptid to everyone at camp. i mean to us he's just percy the silly sarcastic main character who we all love and know but. thats because. we're the readers. thats what percy sees himself as, just the goofy lil guy who is no danger whos just there, and so thats how he describes himself to us. but honestly. imagine he's the only big 3 kid at camp for like 4 years since Thalia ran off with the Hunters and Nico prefers to train in the Underworld, and so people are just like???? he's important???? and anyways he has the craziest fucking powers anyone's ever seen and he's friends with all the head counselors but at the same time he's not even a full time camper? like he just pops up every summer to help save the world and then disappears back into the void of mortal school???? u saw him doing math homework once during a raid by the light of grenade blasts. sometimes you'll see blackjack taking off at 3am on a Monday morning bc he has to be in New York in time for school to begin. he straight up just insults gods and titans without giving a damn and at first you think its because he's been doing this so long that he doesn't care but then you find out that actually??? he's only been doing this for like two years??? it's not that he doesn't care if they kill him its that he's literally still kind of new to this shit so he doesn't realize that they might actually kill him. or maybe he does and he actually doesn't care, you'll never know. anyways he's nice enough but not very good at making friends, sticks to his cabin-counselor friend group and doesn't leave it, u heard that he (accidentally) blew up a volcano once (mt. st. helens explosion of 2021), michael yew once asked him out of morbid curiosity if he can control blood and he just shrugged and went 'idk'. get the fuck out of here weirdo

how many gods know all their childrens last names. or how many gods remember which child had which mortal parent. or how many gods know their childrens age. or birthday. or their favorite color. or their favorite snack. or if they even have favorites. who their favorite friend is. what their favorite shirt design is. what activities they favor. do the gods know anything about that? anything about their children? do the gods just see their children as pawns? as static tools to use when things get bad? canon suggests thats how they see them. but how far down does that go? do the gods know how long each of their kids have been at camp for? how many monsters theyve taken down in their parents name? how much suffering theyve gone through to get one look from the god that brought them into this world? do they see anything their kids do to get a glimpse of their parents attention? do they see anything their kids do at all? how long did it take for the gods to realize a child of their died in battle? did they even realize? or of any of their kids joined kronos’ army? would they have noticed there was an unmade, untouched bed in their cabin, because their siblings couldnt bring themselves to do anything with it after their sibling died? do the gods even know if their children care about each other? or even interact?

did hephaestus know beckendorf got accepted to college? did aphrodite know silena was gonna go with him? did apollo know how michael died? did hades know what bianca died for? did zeus know what jason was doing for forgotten gods?

Every character we lose in the Riordanverse, more than likely, deserved better. But do you know who else deserves better?

The parents.

Silena’s father when he realised she never came back after the battle of manhattan. Sending her that box of chocolates, not knowing that it may be the last time she’d ever be able to try them.

All the other parents to the deceased heroes, realising when winter comes, that their children haven’t returned. That their children didn’t make it that summer.

Imagine the grief and guilt. If they had just had a normal mortal child with a normal mortal partner instead of a god or goddess, then maybe their family wouldn’t be a mess. Maybe their child would have never died fighting monsters that shouldn’t exist.

Maybe some parents don’t even know that their children are demigods. Take piper for example.

Rest in peace to the fallen heroes and fallen angels. But it hurts even more when you remember they had parents. Siblings. Family.

Anyways, thanks for reading my thought dump. I just thought of this at 3AM when I couldn’t sleep one night and safe to say, I got quite upset. It’s horrible to think about but I wonder if anyone else has ever thought this.

On fatal flaws...

We all know what Percy's flaw is, loyalty. He stays by your side no matter what even if he shouldn't, even if it hurts him. he is loyal like a dog. He would follow you anywhere. Would stand by you in any situation. Would come at your call to the back and close his eyes without hesitation as you level a gun between his eyes.

Lee's fatal flaw is love. His love is bright and all encompassing. He loves freely and unconditionally. He would do anything, 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, for the people he holds dear. Climb any mountain, slay any beast if he believed it would bring him closer to you. His love is like the sun, burning and inescapable. He would chase you to the ends of the earth, if only to hold you close(he loves like his father, possessive and obsessed, clutching tightly in his hands until it turns to ash)

Castor holds grudges. It takes forever for him to let go of the slightest grievance to himself or the few he holds dear. He will make sure to settle every score tallied in his books. Dionysus still hates the sea for their crimes against his wife. They're all the same in his eyes, piers and thieves who use those around them.

Platonic Ships List Cause Why Not

Drew, Jake,Connor and Michael (Jake is the only reason they've hadn't killed someone or started a fire)

Michael and Percy. I stand by that, they be such a chaotic duo and in general wished we got more Percy just hanging out with fellow campers

Will,Lou Ellen and Cecil. Very simple

Will,Drew and Jake. Mid BoM they both saw Will having to take charge so young and went into big sibling mode.

Leo and Will. Will showed Leo to his cabin at camp and I just think they be fun dhdh

Jason,Piper and Leo's friendship my beloved.

Nico, Clovis and Connor. Nico has no idea how he got here. Half the time its Clovis sharing gossip(he may sleep a lot but he takes in more then it appears dhdh).

More sibling-ish. But Jason and Apollo. Very funny duo of brothers dbhd

Chris and Percy. I think be just very sweet duo dhdh Chris being one first campers other then Luke and Annabeth he real met and them bonding after Labyrinth. Him also helping Percy after Tartarus.

Silena and Katie. I have this kinda since when I wrote my Will BoM pov fic. Katie taking the reveal hard.

Silena and Clarisse of course are brought up more independently in prev books, but even canonically Percy out right says that their relationship together is something only happened between books because Silena helped Clarisse ask out Chris, they're heavily dependent on those first few chapters and Clarisse reaction + Achilles and Patroclus parallel to build in their relationship. You could easily say Chris is just as close since outside the camp meeting Chris is always seen helping comfort Silena with Clarisse. He's just not a vocal guy compared to Clarisse(and also kinda is just "Clarisse's boyfriend" in that book gsgdg though he seems to take Silena's death hard too)

Clarisse and Chris is hinted to have been close in some way before botl but even that isn't really shown in previous books(wish it was im so interested in that-)

But yeah, so many characters are use less then they should be

Katie is kinda dropped a lil messily, though not as bad as Chris and Pollux are,Will actually gets more as series goes on but honestly Boo after is mostly cause he's with Nico and related to Apollo. I'm surprised Rick remembered him from tlo enough to add him to TLH on. Though, yeah, his relationship with Percy and Annabeth is not touched on(dude kinda saved Annabeth in tlo too so-)

Jake is such an interesting character to me cause like 2 of his brothers blew up and despite not wanting to lead he's great leader and strategist. But he's dropped after BOO. Rick remembers him just enough to be like "oh yeah. He's queer in some fashion" in tsats

I mean I'm still running with that. But come on i want sibling interactions with him and Leo.

The Stolls, mainly Connor, probably show up the most i feel? Connor is one the few minor characters who's in pjo to toa. Which is interesting to especially since Percy likely knew them a lil from his short time in the Hermes cabin even if he doesn't interact with as much as point out things they do. And we see them interact with Jason a bit during boo which is short but kinda funny scene that now thinking about it makes me think of Jason and Connor being friends gdgdf
