my prized possession is this loveseat I bought from a divorced dad who couldn’t tell me anything about it and in the years i’ve owned it i’ve never been able to find out who made it or where it came from. it’s got nails and finger creases and palm lines but they’re all kinda hard to see in this pic.

Okay, I love everything about this hall of mirrors:

Traditional mirror mazes are dark and creepy. This one is brightly lit, and colorful.

The triangular grid makes it that much more disorienting.

The pillars help to obscure the difference between the mirrors and the openings -- so it doesn't NEED to be dark.

All of this combines to make it much more fun and entertaining and much less "I gotta get out of here before Mr. Dark drags me off to the soul-sucking carousel".

The Gimli Glider is one of those stories where every aspect sounds more fake than the last and yet it all actually happened.

-A passenger plane was underloaded with fuel because Canada had just converted to the metric system and everyone supposed to double check their numbers got it wrong. -When the plane ran out of fuel they were too far away to make it to an in-service airport and had to head towards the Gimli military base.  Which was shuttered. -They were coming in to fast due to a lack of flaps control and had to perform a series of slips (as shown in the video above) to slow down, basically drifting a giant passenger plane. -As they come down they realized that just because Gimli’s been decommissioned doesn’t mean it’s abandoned because a bunch of people are having drag races on the runway they’re about to need. -Despite everything they managed to land safely and no one was killed or even hurt which is why it’s one of the best air disasters to meme on.

Plane runs out of fuel, lands on the local drag racing strip via mid-air Akira slide, manages to not turn several families into paté.

Pilots both immediately level all the way up.

I love the detail where two main reasons they finished landing inside the runway and didn’t crash into anyone was

1) nose wheel dropping just enough to soften the first hit and pop back in, which resulted in airplane’s nose generating extra friction via full-surface ground scraping

2) Pearson noticing the guardrail and managing to position increasingly unmaneuvrable plane precisely across for maximum smash.

Imagine being member of the renovation crew who installed it.

“We need your boys to come and reinstall the whole guardrail from scratch.”

“All of it? Was it faulty?”

“Oh no, your job was perfect. Plane landed on it.”
