maybe its just the optimism in me about people but i cant stand Fahrenheit 451 readers who pass off Guy’s interactions and views of Clarisse as “creepy”
It’s more just. a metaphorical thing to me, you know? She’s beautiful and radiant to him in the way that freedom is, because she symbolizes freedom beyond that oppressive dystopia. He’s not attracted to her, he’s envious of her and her family. He even states how much he wants to go and see what her family talks about behind closed doors, knowing that it is about books and all the forbidden knowledge he really wants.
I don’t know. to me it reads as Guy, being someone with a completely empty family/social life (only a loveless wife and no other relatives) and a slave to the system (the dude burns books with no further questions up until the book starts) is most interested in what Clarisse has, that being radiant curiosity, innocence, and a true “community.” I don’t know.
I don’t know why it ticks me off, it doesn’t bother me that folks hate F451 for being their required reading book. But it does bother me that folks dont bother to see past surface level descriptions to realize what clarisse really represents and why guy is drawn to her. characters can be symbols too and i believe their interactions (which, even in a literal context, i don’t feel is romantic at all) are more metaphorical and bring out/highlight key issues Guy has that drive the plot

Absolute Robins in my style
you know the character gonna be peak when they’re blonde with blue eyes have glasses.
rare aesthetic pov: you got sick of being a pacifist, so you when you post class seating arrangements, you say ChatGPT did it but in reality you just placed people with rhyming names tgt., so that when teachers call on students they have to make the conscious effort to remember how to pronounce their names correctly
My contribution of PHM fanart that took me so much longer to finish than I wanted
"I-I don't like Ruegard because Silena and Charles' relationship is the only time Aphrodite chose Hephauestus..."
DREW AND NYSSA ARE RIGHT THERE!!!!!!!!!
What about Charlie? Bc I know if silena was in love with Clarisse and vice versa, he wouldn’t have been spiteful like his dad. He would have loved silena too much and let her go. Then if he hadn’t died and lived past the war, he would have spent the rest of his life yearning for a girl he couldn’t have and have to watch her from afar with the girl she loves. So what about Charlie? What about him guys?
In the last Olympian Percy’s says there were 40 demigods that went fighting into battle of manhattan and later on the ares cabin joined so they weren’t even counted in that 40.
And in the end of the book Percy’s says there were only about “20 odd” demigods that survived and made it back to camp.
Roughly half of the whole entire camp perished in battle of manhattan.
And I’ve done the math and figured out who all the veteran characters are. Most of these are all characters mentioned both before and after the battle of manhattan and some of them were introduced in HoO but said to have been at camp since the titan war. These are the only known true survivors of BoM and it adds up to about 20. This is all of them. None of them are unknown. Do with this what you will
All of the battle of manhattan veterans in order of their cabin numbers :
Percy Jackson
Katie Gardiner
Miranda Gardener
Clarrise La Rue
Sherman Yang
Ellis Wakefield
Annabeth Chase
Malcolm Pace
Will Solace
Austin Lake
Kayla Knowles
Jake Mason
Nyssa Barrera
Harley
Drew Tanaka
Lacy
Mitchel
Chris Rodriguez
Travis Stoll
Connor Stoll
Pollux
Nico di Angelo
Butch Walker
Holly Victor
Laurel Victor
Can you imagine them all going back to camp together in only of those Delphi strawberry busses when they came in four busses. All of them together in a tiny bus grieving their lost siblings together.
Percy Annabeth And Nico went on a wild goose chase after Rachel who had just highjacked Black Jack and that’s how they got back to camp they weren’t on the bus.
Malcolm was all alone and might have believed Annabeth died out there in the streets somewhere or in the Empire State Building. (He’s elated to find her alive at camp later. But god that was a scary couple of hours on the bus thinking he’s all alone now)
Malcolm sits with Butch and Pollux because they’re the only other campers on the bus without siblings. Butch just because he happens to be the only known iris kid at camp and Pollux because he lost Castor in battle of the labyrinth.
All the others sit with their siblings. Or what’s left of them. Entire large cabins that used to have 10-20 kids on average now reduced down to 1-3 kids. Some died. Some joined Luke and probably died soon after.
Edit : And since I’ve seen some Titan army hate in these comments for no reason here’s something else I should have said.
If they joined Luke but somehow survived they were probably wrongfully murdered by the gods for rebelling or brutally punished somehow like Alabaster Torrington. So many titan army kids perished too. Don’t forget them. They fought for a noble cause. They didn’t die for nothing. They were just kids with dreams of making things less shitty for everyone. They suffered just as much if not more than the camp halfblood kids all at the hands of the gods and the titans and even other demigods that were higher up on the Olympus hierarchy. Nico, Ethan, any kid who’s not a child of the big 12 were not treated as equals at camp back then just because of their parentage or lack of powers or unique or scary powers. A lot of titan army kids were from minor gods who suffered because of the big 12 and their children. Camp halfblood wasn’t so nice to them in fact pretty cruel and rude and mean just because of that stupid hierarchy. Of course they felt hurt and fell into Kronos’s trap of trying to make things better. Of course Luke being their counselor at camp cause Hermes takes in all the minor god kids saw all them suffering and tried his best to help. Of course Luke fell into Krnos’s trap as well. and I refuse to tolerate any hate or misunderstanding of them.
Pretty sure the surviving campers might have hated on Luke though, even if they understand his reasons, like you can understand a person but not like them. Because wdym more than half of my siblings died for this bullshit? They already know the gods treated them like shit, but starting a war to drive them to their deaths even quicker would probably piss them off, especially since everyone had the sinking suspicion the gods wouldn’t care anyways. Which leads me to think, that Luke might have left a bad label for cabin 11, seeing as thought their dad is already known as a trickster and all, now their cabin might be labelled as suspicious or the cabin of the “traitor”. I know silena and Luke died as heroes, but that’s Percy’s perspective right? What about those who had to witness firsthand the deaths of their siblings being stabbed in the chest, having their limbs torn off by monsters, watching the light leave their eyes, and then they think, “it’s Luke’s fault, he’s the main instigator” bc they all had fucked up childhoods, like wasn’t the exception, they just don’t know the degree. But with Luke gone who else is there to blame? Why his cabin ofc, bc what do you mean you didn’t recognise the signs of your sibling, who you practically slept in the same bed (there was very little space and privacy in the Hermes’ cabin), that he wasn’t a bit nuts? “Why didn’t you talk luke out of it” sort of crap? Bc at the end of the day there had to be a scapegoat, and since the gods were already hated anyways, why not hate on the cabin who birthed this traitor?
Give me a child of Aphrodite who’s aromantic—because platonic love is just as important as romantic love
Give me a child of Athena with low grades, but very high emotional intelligence— because intelligence comes in many forms
Give me a child of Ares who’s a pacifist and only engages in violence when necessary— because they understand just how dangerous and easily escalated conflict is
Give me a child of Hades who embraces life to the fullest and is bubbly and sweet— because they understand that the experience of living is unique and should be cherished while it lasts
give me a child of Apollo who causes disease
Give me a child of Dionysus who can cause and cure mental illness
Give me a child of Hermes who is a runner and loves hosting because part of traveling is meeting more travellers
Give me more kids of gods who are the opposite of what you want and expect
I would say give me a child of Nike who is a good sport because they understand how winning isn’t everything and obsession with victory only results in a loss of everything else—friendships, rest, health, etc.
Give me a child of Tyche who is obsessed with proving their own skills and worth bc everyone around them assumes things come easy for hose blessed with luck (+bonus if they’re unironically unlucky bc curses and other forces target them for their luck from birth)
Give me a child of nemesis who is the most forgiving person you meet because like Nike, once you get obsessed with revenge there is nothing left after for them to feel or do
Give me a child of Hecate who refuses or hesitant to use their magic because like Hazel, they believe they’re cursed and their powers bring grief for others around them (+bonus is they grew up with a mortal parent with a religion that says magic and witches are evil)
A child of Hypnos who is terrified of sleeping because they’re fear one day they’ll never wake up again.
prior to the end of TLO, drew's just a normal camper and easily overlooked. she's not acting out yet, and i think a lot of people would recognize her in relation to silena, not only because they're sisters but because drew is always following her around. i do think that she's already developed her charmspeaking abilities around this time, which portends her becoming a powerful demigod, but she's yet to harbor the spite that really sharpens this specific ability of hers to the fine, cutting point that we've seen it develop into later in the series.
i also think that, in addition to charmspeak, drew is one of the few children of aphrodite who can shapeshift. this is limited to the boundaries in which the children of aphrodite can use this power ( the wiki says they can only partially change their physical features ) but drew becomes quite good at this and can change her features drastically. this, however, is always a jarring experience for drew, and she doesn't like doing it unless there's a specific reason for it because she's scared she wouldn't be able to revert back to her original features.
in terms of combat though and how helpful drew would be in the battlefield, i do think that her abilities are more in-line with psychic damage. of course, she'd get the same demigod training that all demigods do in terms of endurance / strength / fighting / weapon handling etc., and would also have certain demigod advantages in those areas, but mental manipulation is probably what she excels at so much more.
drew handles an assist role in combat situations unless she has no other option but to lead the charge. neon pink sparks crackle around her when she's using her abilities. she'd usually stun enemies, scramble their minds, make them enter sudden and vivid romantic delusions to distract them, use her charmspeak to get them to follow simple orders ( in large groups. one on one, drew's charmspeaking is lethal enough that she can ask you to follow more complex commands ), taunt enemies to divert their focus, induce migraines, and in worst case scenarios, drive them mad with love and desire. in terms of weapons, drew has a katana made out of steel and tungsten. she named it kirāsuzume, which translates to killer sparrow in japanese.
omg you mentioned Percy and cabin 4…
I feel bad for asking for all these analyse but like their really good so like please?
nooo dw!! i love doing these :D
honestly for percy's relationships with the cabins + campers, i think i touched on it kind of sort of pretty well here at least like as a passing surface level explanation of what i mean
once again, a lot of analyzing with a couple headcanons at the bottom LMAO
Fandom perception of Jason
I did one for Nico and Percy, only right I do one for him too. Ah Jason Grace, what a mess you are and Riordan is completely at fault for 80% of it.
One of the most common one is "Percy is stronger than Jason/Jason is weaker than Percy" and it's mainly referred to,or takes into consideration, the scene in MoA when they got possesed and started fighting and the fact that Jason thought he could kill Percy, and that Percy couldn't do much damage without water.
Annoying,really.
You need to take in consideration that Jason and Percy don't know each other or what the others has done, they don't know each other's powers and the limitations they have. It's valid for Jason to think he can kill Percy when he isn't closer to the water, and it's valid for Percy to tell him that he can do that without water. Percy know his own limitation and what he is capable of doing,Jason know his own limitation and what he is capable of doing. They don't know each other limitation and what the other is capable of doing. That's valid.
The problem here is Riordan. From the start of HoO he presented us Jason as the roman counterpart for Percy, both in term of powers and skills. But he told us about it and never showed it,like he did with Annabeth: everyone told us she is the smartest of her mother's children, but most of the time she get herself in dangerous situation because of her fatal flaw. Same with Jason. They told us he was at Percy's level (this is the guy that killed alone a Titan with his hands, not even IVLIVS,his bare fucking hands and Percy isn't able to do that) but for the whole serie we never got to see that, and Riordan took, took and took from him, untill he was dry,to make him an example.
Remember when I made the whole talk about the pawerscaling and how certain authors don't want the MC outshined by other characters,so they make the other characters weaker? It isn't only applied to Nico,Jason suffered it too. He started from the top and kept falling to the bottom. Which is totally the opposite of a character's growth. But who cares right? Rick created Jason only to make us understand that no one, even another Big 3 kid,is stronger than Percy. Thalia in TTC was pretty equal to him, probably a bit stronger, and Rick said:"SIKE" and we never got to see her again properly. I already explained Nico. Hazel doesn't have much attention in general since she is in a weird way in the background, even tho she is there. And Jason? Jason got destroyed piece by piece untill Riordan was satisfied and killed him off.
So really, the real reason we never got to see him as powerful is because of the pawerscaling and Riordan mindset. You can still have OP side character that can be stronger than the MC (the Gods, the Titans, the Giants, the primordial are all here) without having the MC being outshined, and the side character nerfed. I guess he never took this in consideration.
"Jason's life was never that complicated/traumatized. The other had it worst" isn't a common one but must people think of it when we,again, compare him to Percy (and Nico).
And I'm here to remind y'all that Jason is the real tradizional child soldier here. Not Percy that didn't found out untill 12 about being a demigod and didn't went to war untill 16,not Nico that was mostly doing his own things and was in his father's domain most of the time, and definitely not Thalia that went off with the Hunters doing whatever. Jason is. It's Jason that endured military training since he was a baby. There are 12 lines on his arm, right? His mother abandoned him at 2 in the woods, and at the end of MoA he turned 16. You know what that means? If math is correct (and I'm good at it) he started his training at 3 years old. A baby.
CHB doesn't have military training like CJ does,it's more about battle strategy and creativity, with Chiron and skilled older campers that teach you how to fight and survive. So no,the greeks didn't had to endure real military training, the Ares Cabin is probably the closer we got to that and that's because they are the children of the War God. People also aren't forced to participate in any activities there to grant them the ability of living inside the camp. Sure, you need to take part in Capture the Flag and certainly the lessons if you want to survive, but if someone like Piper (that is new to everything and is going to set off in a world-ending quest without fighting acknowledge or a weapon) can evade fighting class, then everyone else can. Percy didn't had much training either, since he was doing quests all over the summer, and then in winter was back to his mom. The romans are different in this. CJ has military training (and if you know a bit of the Roman Empire history you know how efficient and brutal they were in battles) and the demigods here have to serve before getting to live in New Rome. Sure,if they don't want to plagiarize their life in battle they can abandon the legion, but you need first to finish your years of service. There are adults here, but they still needs (read: want since it's a fucking choice here, not a necessity) children to fight for them. It's fucked up. And Jason is the only child of the Big Three to endure this. Hazel was new and was barely knew Jason before he disappeared, and Percy stayed there not even a full week. Jason lived there. When he arrived there he was 3 years old (going for 4 probably),and had to endure military training. Let that fucking sink in. They are all children soldier, but Jason is the only traditional one that literally had to grow up in that way because the only way they knew.
That alone is traumatic. But the worst part? His mom abandoned him in a forest at the age of 2,because of Juno, and she left him with a wolf. Hell she probably never knew about Lupa in the first place, she just left him there alone while she was drunk, and Thalia thought he didn't survive. Beryl. Abandoned. Him. In. A. Forest. When. He. Was. 2. That,is worst than any other shit that happened in his life. To this day,we got that in BoO,Jason doesn't know what to feel about it. He was raised by a wolf for a year. Lupa literally became his mother, not only his mentor,in every way possible. And after that, she made him find CJ alone, sending him away without a real destination. A BABY THAT BARELY KNOW HOW TO SPEAK. (I might cry for this-). And whil he lived here,he tried to feel part of that world but he couldn't because he was Jupiter's son,the King of Gods son. So people put him on a pedistal ever since he was a baby and were expecting good and great things from him in the future, and Jason was put in a box he couldn't escape.
In this he and Percy are similar, yes, but Percy mistreatment wasn't for all of his life, the Campers started to be better with him and in the end recognized him as their leader, someone to look up to. Jason? Jason couldn't get out of the box no matter what, because it's the roman nature to make sure people assume certain persona, based on their ancestry and legacy. Percy could get out because his box was a bit loose,Jason's box was made of metal and without a key. He couldn't get out no matter how much he wanted to and how much he tried. Honestly, fuck Camp Jupiter,my beef with it is probably worst than CHB it's just that I never talk much about it
Another one is "Jason is a bland character,he never was that deep" and this again is Riordan fault. All the things I just wrote? Those are part of Jason's character and are extremely complex, especially his abandonment issues,so yes,Jason is a complex character if we gave him the attention he deserves. It's the fandom that is still stuck on the "Percy vs Jason" and Rick that doesn't care much about Jason in general. But yes guys,Jason isn't bland. It doesn't matter if he is your favorite or not,if we take a deep analysis of him (that I'll probably do) there are so many things left unseen or unsaid. He is that deep and more. It's the fandom, with the hate on him, that make you thing otherwise.
Jason's fate was sealed the moment we started HoO and we didn't had Percy. I wasn't around at the time (I started to read the books in 2016 while I was in my last year elementary school, after watching the movies),so I didn't know if Rick at least made the readers aware that there was going to be a change of PoVs and MC with TLH,or not. But knowing how that went down I don't think so. And doing this, knowing full well how beloved Percy is in general,is just a way to make sure the readers already hate the new guy. If SoN and TLH got switched, the results would have been probably better. Rick knew what he was doing,he still went with it. And look how that went down in the first years.
And again, fandom space come back here full force. Just how Rick is now writing Percy like a stupid idiot that needs to have Annabeth for everything, like some of the fandom stereotype them into,Riordan went the same route for Jason. People didn't like him and found him not interesting? He made sure he was more and more "bland" for them, just to make people feel confident in their "Percy is 100% better than him". What a way to treat your characters. Especially the one that introduced us to the whole "there are romans demigods out there, with their own camp, and I'm one of them" concept and the fact that a God,in both form, can have children from the same mortal. Jason and Thalia are the only siblings with this situation (since Hazel and Nico had different mothers) and it was never explored much. He got a whole occasion to make them the focus of half of HoO,had the occasion to pull Thalia back in the main narrative and delve better into Jason's mentally and uniqueness, but never did. Totally a waste.
Honorable mention to "Jasper couldn't survive Tartarus like Percabeth did" (I see a couple of those on Reddit, and while some made sense other were straight up "Percabeth is better") gotta love the Percabeth enthusiasts that deny the existence of other couples, and how much good they can be if put them in the same environment as Percy and Annabeth.
Listen,I'm indifferent to Jasper, and this is totally a subjective opinion,BUT I believe that it could work as a ship. Their whole dynamic was "Our relationship has been a lie fabricated by other people and we cannot have a relationship based on lies, but I still want to love you" ; and their whole promise was, especially at the end of BoO,was: "We love each other no matter our fake relationship, let's try this for real this time and let's create real memories." And that,at least for me,is a good thing. I was really excited when they decided to stay together even if their relationship started with fake memories,it's mean they still wanted to be together because they learned to love each other this time. And then apparently Piper broke up with him for a girl and he died, but she still was disperated to bring him back to life. Idk how to feel about that. I don't care Piper has a girlfriend now,but I don't like how Riordan went with it,especially with their end in BoO. I fully believe that if he gave Piper some development,Jason more deep and made their relationship stable, they would be good. Anyway, back to the topic-
The only reason they survived down here was because of Bob's help (so indirectly Nico) and Percy was doing most of the work,Annabeth barely did something useful and was more out of it and defenseless than anything else. Jasper won't have Bob,but Piper's charmspeak can also influence monsters and gods and Jason is a skilled soldier,so it's not like they would be completely helpless. They probably wouldn't have gotten at the doors, but they also wouldn't instantly die on the spot like most people think. The favoritism here is crazy.
Now that I stopped with the stereotypes there are a couple of consideration to do,that other people made me understand.
The first one is that Jason is probably suicidal too. There was a person that rebbloged the post where I analized Nico and Percy similarities and how both of them were suicidal, that wrote how Jason also is the same. And honestly? They are so right.(Shout out to you if you are reading btw)
The thing about Jason is that he is so full of trauma that he himself don't know how to process it. So he is always like in a constipated state where he doesn't know what to do. There is a lot to unpack in Jason: abandonment issues of different levels, impossibility of express himself, incapability of fully connect with the other demigods because they treat him like a superior being, high expectations from a young age, expectations that he will be able to keep up with everything and more from ever since he was a baby, always feeling inferior to someone else, feeling inadequate when not in a position of command/leading,feeling of extreme emptiness and loss as he tries to understand who he is and his identity, always being compared to someone else, low self-esteem issues (I see a pattern here-) and I can go on and more.
So,it's not so strange to think that, like Nico and Percy,Jason too is suicidal. He seems the quite type of it tho: a person that wish for his end,but never actually tries to do something about it and still goes on untill he can. That's canon between, and it's Hazel that make us understand that. Her whole speech about how Percy and Jason are only waiting for a monster they can't kill because they are too tired to go on? It's canon for both of them, not only Percy. We tend to talk more about him because he is the favorite and we got to see more of him,but Jason (and Nico) is on the same boat as him in this. He spent all of his life training for quests and saving the world. He is tired too. But we never acknowledge that as we should. And the most sad thing of this? He died in ToA,while he was probably starting to find something that could work for him, that he liked, and was probably starting to find himself again. He never had the luxury of knowing himself other than being a good soldier for the gods. That alone,my friends,it's depressing.
Another one is a post I rebbloged, about the difference in Percy and Jason characters and why Jason died and Percy survived. And,the summary is that while Percy is a cycle breaker and untouchable to the Gods,Jason was only a disposable soldier for them and was never going to break the box he was in. Which I also kinda incorporated in the post already, but I still want to talk about this. This is actually their core difference, not the fact one was a roman and the other greek, not the fact that one is the son of Poseidon and the other Jupiter, not whatever other thing you think of. This,is the most important difference and it's canon too.
In BoO,when the Seven fought with their parents to get rid of the Giants,Jupiter and Jason had a conversation that can be summarized in "I'm proud of you,but someone has to take the blame for this and it won't be me" and, with the way he was wording it to him,he felt like it was Jason the one to take the blame. And that was the first fucking time he talked with him (still better than Thalia at least-). In the end the blame was put on Apollo and then ToA happened, and Jason died. But the conversation is literally what made me understand that Jason will never have the favor of his father like Percy has with Poseidon. Because while Percy is Poseidon's favorite (their relationship is not so good either-),Jupiter see Jason just as another strument. Someone not that important that can help you when you are in trouble. While Percy is a son,Jason is tool. And that? That is just snother fucked up thing to add to the list of "Jason Grace's trauma" that he will have to deal with the rest of his life. Or untill ToA,that's it.
And since we are already talking about it,another thing is that Jason died in ToA because Leo lived in HoO. Which I agree with it. Leo cheated the prophecy by using the cure of the medic, but he didn't know.
Remember,he and Piper are inexperienced, this is their second quest ever (to save the world) and it's not even been a year ever since they found out about their parentage. Most of them are new to the concept of being a demigod and how things (never) work for them. He thought he was doing something good by killing off Gaia (in whatever way he did, that's it) and going to find Calypso. He didn't know that his action would put Jason's life on the line. For all he knew, the prophecy ended with his "dead",so he didn't need to worry about anything else. But by cheating the prophecy,Jason did die. Most people also point out that it's Zeus fault, since Jason spoke back to him in front of the Olympians, before helping Apollo in his quest,so he didn't help him anymore. While the whole "Roman that choose to be Greek" is totally confusing, and I don't agree a bit it with it,I don't think it's Zeus's fault this time. It was just his time to go,becuse the prophecy needed to be fulfilled and candidate A come back to life,so candidate B was the only other option. Jason was fated to die either way, because for the gods he is a soldier. And that's is another depressing thing about his life.
We talk so much about Percy and the others, but Jason isn't too far off from him and probably is more traumatized than him.
And again greek demigods don't reach 18 (the roman ones are more lucky about this),it's only Percy that reached that age and he is still alive (other than Luke before he killed himself for end Kronos). Dying at 16 or even younger is part of their life and they all know that,it's more common than surviving honestly. And Jason met the same fate, while Percy will probably be another demigod in New Rome. Jason died as a greek even tho he was a roman and Percy will live as a roman even tho he is greek. Of course,if we don't take in consideration the whole "names have powers" concept and the fact that Percy is named after the only greek hero with a good ending, while Jason was offered to Juno and Beryl (unlike Sally) didn't care to do her reaserach to give him a good name. But I don't think it's really that important here.
I just really hope that Rick won't kill off another main character after him because of the backlash it caused (if something happens to Nico or other people he cares about ISTG Rick–) and that Jason will stay dead. Otherwise he will take away, again, another part or his already destroyed character and the weight his death carried. And we would still be a point 0 with the prophecy again,I don't think we want to do an infinite Russian Roulette between Leo and Jason.
Anyway,Jason Grace is more than what the fandom think or stereotyped because of the whole "Percy is better" complex, and Rick himself fucked him up in every possible way because of the fandom, and because he used him to make sure we know Percy is OP. Again,he got used as a tool for everyone because that's what he was created for.
Tragic,isn't it?
Goodbye Jason Grace,we barely got to know you.
dude…I wasn’t supposed to cry today…
truly one of the biggest letdowns in piper's writing in hoo specifically is how it doesn't dig deeper into charmspeak and what a disturbing thing it is to have the power to control someone's mind. like I swear this is interesting stuff and more people would get into piper as a character if this were explored a bit more in the text. you definitely see piper disturbed by her own power and hesitant to use it (and note that like many other characters, i.e. leo and hazel, her powers have always been a source of trouble in her life - like how she got in trouble for stealing a car even though all she did was ask for it), but in my opinion the books spend way too much time in piper's perspectives on other stuff when charmspeak is such an unusual and fascinating and terrifying power that offers so many interesting avenues of character exploration
and I really wish the books would have talked more about the canonical fact that charmspeak is more effective against people who are (or could be) physically/sexually attracted to the user. this is a power that children of aphrodite have - a power that is implicitly tied to sexuality as a defense or offense. like this inherently necessitates that piper weaponizes her sexuality against monsters and deities and giants and any other antagonist that want to harm her. which is crazy. especially because she's a teenager and especially because piper is initially characterized as an underconfident girl who goes out of her way to downplay her appearance (do you guys remember how much harassment piper goes through in the books and what little gravity is afforded to those moments... like she has dangerous characters aggressively flirting with or expressing attraction to her A Lot, and she has to play into that attraction to save herself or her friends no matter how uncomfortable it makes her)
I think there's such a dark undertone to all of this that's worth investigating. we know that piper doesn't like herself, doesn't like her powers, and doesn't like demigod life. hoo has her on a journey to become more confident in herself as a person and as a daughter of aphrodite but it's always going to be fucked up that part of her role in the prophecy seven is becoming confident enough in herself that she gets better at weaponizing her ability to violate the free will of others - and her ability to use her sexuality as an armament of war
