The box.....
What we now know is that Doumeki was not looking for Yashiro during those 4 years. Yes he did know where he had landed after his group was disbanded, but he put his attention to his own life. Working on building himself into the Yakuza he thought Yashiro would respect. So they were both just existing in their own worlds. Not that they didn't think about each other, they did. Yashiro carried Doumeki in his dreams and his impotent body. Doumeki shut his self into a world of violence and solitude waiting on the day he would be able to present this new man to him. They both were equally fools. One wanting the old person and the other trying to be what he thought the other wanted, an equal.
Doumeki never understood Yashiro's motivation for letting him go and Yashiro didn't realize how much he was loved. That box could solidify how much he is loved. If you look in the right hand bottom under the type banner lays the bowl. He kicked it next to the box. 🤭
I actually have a different take on this! I believe Doumeki was keeping tabs on Yashiro the whole time. He used Chestnut to stay informed about Yashiro’s whereabouts, which is clear when Doumeki calls him to ask for Yashiro's location. When Chestnut says, Didn’t I tell you?!, it implies that he had been giving Doumeki regular updates all along. This would explain why Doumeki seemed so composed when they finally met after four years
And Just to let my imagination run wild for a second what if Chestnut was providing Doumeki with photos of Yashiro from when he was being watched? If that’s true, Yashiro might find pictures of himself if he ever looks inside that box! Maybe I’m overthinking it, but still... maybe 🤔
He found out where Yashiro was at the beginning of his time with Sakurakai. That's why Chestnut said he had told him before. We saw that in Doumeki's flashback when he ran down Chestnut and said it was about revenge for being thrown away. So when he had a feeling from the description of the Casino people looking for Kai he checked back with Chestnut to make sure Yashiro was still there. So he had a heads up but he wasn't totally sure. Doumeki had changed into the cold and composed Yakuza. He was not going to let Yashiro see how he was hurt. They both put on the face of not being affected. So I believe he stayed clear.
Regarding the revenge comment, it was a calculated lie. Doumeki needed a reason for Chestnut to help him, and since Yashiro was constantly moving (even Misumi couldn't keep track of him until he learned from Nanahara), that’s why he needed an inside source. I find it hard to believe that Doumeki, who considers Yashiro his sole reason for living, would wait years without confirming that Yashiro was safe.
His cold demeanor isn't just about being a composed Yakuza; it’s a mask. He’s learned that being vulnerable only makes Yashiro push him away. He’s maintaining this new persona specifically so he can stay by Yashiro’s side without triggering Yashiro's tendency to flee. He’s the same Doumeki underneath, just playing a different role to make sure Yashiro doesn’t run away from him again.

It's really interesting how Kamiya echoes Yashiro's sentiments here.
Kamiya shared this chapter about his abuse at the hands of his father, heavily implying, too, that his sister died as a result of that same abuse. The parallels with Yashiro are obvious.
Kamiya tells Doumeki that he's lucky because he still has a family to go back to, and Tsunakawa, before this, questioned Doumeki about why he felt he couldn't get a regular job and live a normal life, given the circumstances surrounding his time spent in prison.
All of this mirrors what Yashiro tried to make Doumekie understand and accept before the time skip. None of the people in the Yakuza are as lucky as Doumeki. Yashiro in particular never had anyone growing up. An abusive step father and a mother who couldn't care less about him. He was totally alone, which is how he ended up being vulnerable to men like Misumi. But Doumeki has never been alone. He has a sister who loves him, and a mother who loves him too, despite her failings. I've said this before, but I think it's always particularly rankled Yashiro to see Doumekie essentially spurn the gift of a loving family, and instead decided to voluntarily join the Yakuza. It must be galling, because Yashiro never had a choice, and he probably couldn't understand why anyone would choose this life for themselves if they didn't have to. We see that same confusion in Tsunakawa and Kamiya.
It's just an interesting observation I made, and I wonder how it's going to play out through the rest of the story. I've had this idea in my head for a while that it isn't Yashiro, but Doumeki, who needs to learn a lesson about the importance of appreciating what you have. Thematically, it would make sense for Doumeki to end up being punished by the narrative for abandoning his family in pursuit of Yashiro, and I keep thinking the most dramatic way to drive that punishment home would be for Yashiro to die.
I'm probably totally wrong, lol, but it's just a theory of mine.
Either way, Yashiro is obviously going to go after Doumeki and try to save him. Doumeki's pretty much given up here, and no longer seems to have a will to live. Again, it would kind of make sense for him to watch Yashiro die in order to save his life, to jolt him out of his own, self-imposed misery, and to embrace the gift of a normal life and a loving family. More than anything, I think, that's what Yashiro always wanted for him, and in a way, it would be a way to honor Yashiro, to show the ultimate respect for him, by going back to a normal life.
Anyway, like I said, I'm sure I'm wrong, but something dramatic is definitely going to happen between Yashiro and Doumeki. I can't wait for the next chapter.
This whole thing is either going to end tragically, or maybe even have a bittersweet ending. A happy ending seems less likely, but you never really know.
That’s an interesting theory, but I think it overlooks something essential about Doumeki. His attachment to Yashiro isn’t a reckless choice, it’s the only thing anchoring him. Calling him “lucky” for having a family ignores that his past with them is tied to guilt and pain, not comfort.
Doumeki didn’t reject a gift; he gravitated toward the one person who gave his life meaning. If Yashiro were to die to “save” him, it wouldn’t push him toward a normal life, it would break him. We’ve already seen what happens when Yashiro is in danger: Doumeki doesn’t grow stronger, he unravels. He stops thinking. He loses control.
And more importantly, there’s nothing bittersweet about that kind of ending. Yashiro has already sacrificed so much for the people he loves! joining the Yakuza to save Kageyama, nearly dying for Nanahara. Having him die for Doumeki too wouldn’t feel meaningful, it would feel excessive.
The real growth here isn’t Yashiro dying for Doumeki, it’s Doumeki becoming strong enough to stand beside him, so Yashiro doesn’t have to carry everything alone anymore. I’m honestly nervous about Volume 10, but I really hope it doesn’t reduce all of this to tragedy

Saezuru Tori Chapter 64: The One Who Truly Changed
My thoughts on Chapter 64 before the new chapter
While many readers focused on Doumeki’s confession , feeling satisfied by it or frustrated with Yashiro’s response , Chapter 64 highlights something more significant:
Doumeki hasn’t changed. Yashiro has.
This becomes clear when comparing Doumeki’s actions in Chapter 24 and Chapter 64. In Chapter 24, he confessed out of fear, fear that Yashiro would leave him. The timing didn’t matter; what mattered was saying it before losing the chance.
Chapter 64 follows the same pattern. Faced with uncertainty , his position in the Sakura group and the unknown punishment from Tsunakawa , Doumeki confesses again because he believes this might be his last opportunity.
His feelings are sincere, but his behavior is consistent. He acts when he feels he might lose Yashiro.
Yashiro, however, does something different.
He stays.
That shift may seem small, but for Yashiro, it marks a clear break from his usual pattern. Yoneda-sensei emphasizes this through deliberate moments:
When Doumeki falls asleep, Yashiro doesn’t leave , even though leaving has always been his instinct when things become too personal.
When the conversation turns to the Madam, he stays.
When Doumeki begins to confess , the exact situation Yashiro typically avoids , he stays and listens, despite visible tension.
When Doumeki talks about the past four years, Yashiro doesn’t interrupt. He lets him finish.
When Doumeki blames himself for the injury, Yashiro shuts it down immediately. And even when Doumeki calls him gentle, kind, strong, and beautiful , words Yashiro has always rejected, he still doesn’t leave.
That is where the real change happens.
It isn’t dramatic. It isn’t loud. It’s controlled , which makes it far more meaningful in Yashiro’s case.
This tension is also reflected in “今まで散々、俺を…っ,” a line that suggests accumulated harm rather than a single incident. The phrasing carries weight , something ongoing and difficult to fully articulate , and the cut-off ending signals strain rather than anger.
The same complexity appears in Yashiro’s question:
“どんな気持ちで聴けって…” , “How am I supposed to hear that?”
This isn’t rejection.
It’s confusion.
Doumeki suddenly speaks with clarity and warmth , almost like his past self , after acting distant and even cruel since reuniting with Yashiro. The shift is abrupt. Yashiro isn’t pushing him away; he’s trying to process what’s happening.
If there’s frustration in this scene, it lies more in Doumeki’s timing. His decision to confess is understandable , he doesn’t want to leave things unsaid, but it places emotional weight on Yashiro at the exact moment Yashiro has chosen to stay.
And it happens while Yashiro is already under pressure, anxious about Doumeki’s safety and aware that he may soon have to confront Kai.
Yashiro’s question after the kiss “Why are you telling me this now?” captures that tension. It’s not rejection. It’s about timing.
At the same time, there’s another layer to this.
Doumeki is finally being honest, and that matters. But what he says also reveals a gap in understanding.
When Doumeki says he chose the yakuza life because he wanted to be with Yashiro, it directly contradicts what Yashiro tried to do for him. Yashiro pushed him away, forced that separation, and endured it so that Doumeki could leave that life and have something better.
For Doumeki to frame it this way suggests he still doesn’t fully understand the depth of Yashiro’s feelings.
And that matters, because if something were to happen to Doumeki now, Yashiro would be the one left carrying it.
He would blame himself.
So the question becomes unavoidable:
Did Doumeki really think saying that would make Yashiro happy?
Or was this simply the result of holding everything in for too long, reaching a point where he could no longer keep it contained?
That’s why the final panel feels so important.
Doumeki’s expression before turning away could be read as a quiet farewell. But the last panel shifts that interpretation. His expression changes, from sadness to determination.
It doesn’t feel like he’s leaving Yashiro.
It feels like he’s made a decision.
Possibly to end things with Tsunakawa, to resolve what remains before returning. For a long time, Doumeki held back because he wanted to stand on equal footing with Yashiro. But now, having understood more, especially the truth about Yashiro’s injury and the fact that he was never truly safe, it’s difficult to see him walking away.
At this point, what matters is whether Doumeki can prove he’s capable of standing by Yashiro’s side without putting himself in danger.
If this direction holds, it raises two concerns.
First, Yashiro is now positioned to confront Kai while Doumeki remains unaware. Kai already suspects Yashiro’s involvement with Tsunakawa, which places Yashiro at serious risk if he faces him alone.
Second, if Yashiro chooses to act against Misumi’s orders in order to protect Doumeki, that decision could create an even more dangerous situation for both of them.
Given what Doumeki now understands, not only the injury, but the extent to which Yashiro concealed things to protect him, it’s unlikely he would choose to leave him again.
Volume 10 may be building toward a major cliffhanger.

The Unbearable Weight of "She": Why Calling Yashiro a Woman Misunderstands His Trauma
Fandom is a beautiful thing. It’s where we go to dissect the stories we love, explore what-ifs, and see characters through new lenses. From analyzing subtext to creating elaborate alternate universes, we engage with media on a deeper level. But sometimes, in our enthusiasm, we can stray into territory that, while well-intentioned, clashes with the very foundation of a character's journey.
Recently, I was reminded of this while reading a fan discussion. I saw someone refer to the character Yashiro from Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai using "she" and "her." Initially, I assumed it was a simple grammatical error. But as I read more, I realized this was an intentional interpretation held by some fans who see him as a trans or non-binary character.
I find this deeply sad and profoundly upsetting.
On the surface, it might seem like a harmless or even progressive act of interpretation. But to understand the weight of this, we have to look at the core of Yashiro's trauma, the very thing that has shaped his entire existence.
Content Warning: This post contains discussions of rape, abuse, body shaming, and psychological trauma related to the manga Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai. Please proceed with caution.
The Echo of an Abuser: The Stepfather's Poison
Yashiro's story is built upon a foundation of brutal abuse. As a young boy, he was systematically raped by his stepfather, a man who weaponized psychological cruelty alongside physical violence. During these assaults, his stepfather would tell him:
"Listen up... YOU'RE A GIRL! GOD MADE YOU MALE BY MISTAKE!"
He then goes on explaining to the traumatized Yashiro how his body accepts his di*k and then expands to Yashiro (the child Yashiro) how babies are made, and about him being pregnant!???. And he says more, but I don’t want to write it all; it’s disgusting and disturbing. You can see the shocked reaction from that poor little Yashiro.
"Listen up... YOU'RE A GIRL! GOD MADE YOU MALE BY MISTAKE!" This is not a throwaway line. It is the central pillar upon which Yashiro’s self-loathing is built. These words didn't just hurt him; they became the toxic lens through which he views himself and the world. Because of his stepfather’s assertion, Yashiro developed a profound and painful complex: he believes that because he is not a woman, he is fundamentally unworthy of love, kindness, or gentleness.
Whenever someone shows him genuine care, his immediate instinct is to reject it. He runs away as if he's been burned because his abuser’s voice echoes in his head, telling him he doesn't deserve it. He sees his own gentleness and beauty as a flaw, a mistake to be corrected. This is the source of his emotional distance and pain.
The Pattern of Pain: Gentleness as a Trigger
This isn't just interpretation; the text shows us this pattern again and again. Let's look at the evidence:
Chapter 10: When a yakuza begins to treat Yashiro gently and with affection, Yashiro’s first thought is, “I’m being treated as a woman!” His reaction is visceral: he feels sick and forces the man to stop, by getting him kicked out of the Yakuza.
Chapter 21: In the car, when Doumeki acts gently with him, Yashiro becomes irritated and snaps, “I’m not a woman, don’t do it so gently!”
Chapter 24: Doumeki’s gentle behavior during sex makes Yashiro so physically ill that he wants to throw up.
Chapter 25: Yashiro demands Doumeki do it roughly and make it hurt during sex, but Doumeki refuses, saying, “I won’t. Look at how much you’re enjoying it, even without that.” Yashiro then asks, “But, why?” In his mind, he doesn’t understand why he begins to enjoy the gentle sex with Doumeki. Remember, his concepts have been twisted by his stepfather: gentleness = women, and “he’s not a woman.” While having sex with Doumeki, Yashiro’s mind suddenly plays the old tape of his stepfather’s abuse, the man who had sex with him is no longer Doumeki; Doumeki’s voice fades and becomes his stepfather’s. After this, Yashiro’s body shakes, and he starts to cry. Doumeki looks at him, wondering why he’s crying. It’s like he has one side of the puzzle: he knows about Yashiro’s sexual abuse, but he doesn’t know the full extent of the trauma or why the more he cares and becomes gentle, the more Yashiro runs away, rejecting him. Yashiro wants to protect his identity , “he’s not a woman.”
Chapter 50: Titled “Wanting to Destroy Everything,” this chapter’s content is revealing. When Doumeki asks Yashiro, “Or could it be you WISH to be treated GENTLY instead?” it triggers Yashiro. Soon after, Yashiro sees Doumeki with the Madam, and the connection clicks. He flees immediately, seeking out Kiddo and asking him to violate him just like the old times, returning to the familiar pain he believes he deserves.
Chapters 51–52: After Yashiro has rough sex with an angry Doumeki, he’s not triggered by the violence but is hurt deep inside because he’s in love with Doumeki, yet he refuses to admit it. When Yashiro takes a shower and sees how rough Doumeki was, his expression turns to sadness, and he thinks, “He must only be gentle with women.”
Chapter 63: When Yashiro is worried about Doumeki and goes to his place, he finds the door open and sees the Madam sitting next to Doumeki. He might think, “Doumeki’s woman is here; why am I here?” That’s probably why he immediately flees, saying, “I can see that I’m intruding. I’ll leave.” But he doesn’t realize that he has a place in Doumeki’s life. I was happy when Doumeki got up to stop Yashiro from leaving.
Random chapters: Whenever Ryuuzaki mentions the word "woman," Yashiro’s expression changes into a sad smile. We know Ryuuzaki had the stupid thought, “If Yashiro was a woman, he would have been protected.” Ryuuzaki admits that his thought was stupid. Yashiro doesn’t have to be a woman to be protected or loved. Ryuuzaki understands that he loves and cares for a MAN named Yashiro, he loves him as he is, but he would never admit that to Yashiro.
The Pattern Is Undeniable
For Yashiro:
Gentleness = Women
Affection = Women
He believes he is a mistake. He believes his existence is wrong. He believes he deserves punishment for being born male.
He even thinks sex is supposed to be painful because he is "not a woman." Why do you think he seeks out so many sexual partners if he was abused as a child? If that were the case, he would hate sex with men. We saw Doumeki’s sister, who was abused by her stepfather, hated sex. Even acts like giving her a condom reminded her of the abuse. It’s not sex that triggers his trauma, it’s the gentleness, the act of being treated as if he is worthy of care, “being treated as a woman,” which he believes is a right reserved only for women.
Even Doumeki has a hard time understanding why Yashiro acts like this, especially with him. Yashiro accepts sex with other men, so why does he reject sex with Doumeki? No one truly knows the real reason, even Yashiro himself. That’s evident when he thinks, “I blame him for being cruel, but the moment I’m treated gently, I want to run away.” He knows gentle sex makes him sick and wants to escape, but he doesn’t understand why. He always says, “I’m not a woman,” but I highly doubt he understands why he says that every time someone acts gentle with him.
I believe the beginning of his healing will be when Doumeki tells Yashiro he loves him. Maybe Yashiro won’t accept that at first, but I believe that once he understands Doumeki loves him as he is, many wounds inside Yashiro’s heart will begin to heal. Yashiro, who never knew what being loved looks like, not even from his own mother.
When Fanon Validates the Trauma
This is why referring to Yashiro as "she" feels so wrong. It is an act that, whether intentional or not, validates the abuser’s narrative. It takes the poison his stepfather used to break him and reframes it as an acceptable identity. It aligns with the perspective of the man who destroyed his sense of self.
Yashiro is confident in his own body; he has no shame. We saw him walking completely naked in front of others comfortably, having sex not just with one, but with a group of Yakuza members. He is a proud man, more than anyone else. So why are some fans acting as if he’s a woman? Is he so beautiful that you can’t accept him as a man? Does his gentle nature somehow make him a woman?
Yashiro has never expressed a desire to be a woman; on the contrary, the very suggestion of it makes him sick. His journey isn’t about discovering a different gender identity; it’s about the painful, slow process of learning that he can be loved as a man, that he deserves kindness and love exactly as he is.
To call him "she" is to erase the very essence of his struggle. It’s like looking at a prisoner fighting to break free from a cage and saying, “You look so natural in there.” It’s a cruel irony, even if it’s not intended.
Fandom is born from love, but sometimes that love can unintentionally echo the words of an abuser when it fails to see the character for who they truly are. Yashiro’s fight is not to become a woman; it is to accept himself as a man who is finally worthy of love. So, to those who refer to him as "she," I have to ask: do you see his struggle, or are you siding with the man who broke him?
Chapter 42 of Saezuru-Nanahara listens to Yashiro answer Tsunakawa's question about letting Doumeki go. He comes to this realization. He says " Hang on what does that say about me then?". If he felt sorry for Doumeki being under his twisted leadership what about him? So Nanahara knows there is a difference and questioned it.
In chapter 61 when Yashiro takes a wounded Doumeki to Kageyama's clinic Nanahara says to himself 'So in the end you still". Does it bother him that Yashiro still cares about Doumeki?
Chapter 62 - Doumeki doesn't see it that way. Instead of thinking I must be special to him he thinks he must be less than Nanahara. He still carries that hurt of being thrown away. Before Kageyama can set him straight Kamiya interrupts. I think hurt is clouding his thinking and Yashiro doesn't help.
We know that over the four years that passed, Yashiro suffered from many things: issues with his right eye and his ability to move without stumbling or hurting himself, the sadness of leaving Doumeki behind, his impotence, running from the Yakuza life, and other struggles we might not even know about. The one who witnessed it all was none other than Nanahara. At first, Yashiro probably couldn’t hide how much he missed Doumeki from Nanahara, but as the years went by, Nanahara thought Yashiro had moved on. That’s why he was worried when he discovered that Yashiro still had feelings for Doumeki, because he saw how much Yashiro was suffering because of it.
As for Doumeki, he doesn’t really know much about Yashiro; they’ve known each other for a very short time. I know he loves him, but he can’t truly understand him. This is evident in how he views himself in their relationship. We must also remember that Doumeki has very low self-esteem , Maybe he didn’t realize how much Yashiro did for him, or why Yashiro would go to such lengths for him.
Who's the Intel in Saezuru Tori?
Let's start by listing the suspects and examining why I don't believe they are the intel ,The Suspects: Nanahara, Kamiya, Amou, and Kageyama
Nanahara: The Obvious Choice? I know many fans think Nanahara is the intel, but I don't believe it. Though he always reported some information about Yakuza stuff and what happened with Yashiro in general, but he never shared sensitive information about Yashiro's life, such as his condition or the fact that he met with Doumeki again, except for Sugimoto (I had some doubts about Sugimoto because he doesn’t like Doumeki, but I dropped them due to lack of evidence. If anyone has evidence about him, please share it so we can catch him).
Also Nanahara found out about Doumeki still being in the Yakuza world in Chapter 40, while Misumi discovers this in Chapter 58. Would Nanahara, as the intel, have hidden something that important from Misumi? Additionally, Nanahara always protected Yashiro and Doumeki. He hid Yashiro's injury so Doumeki wouldn't feel guilty about it, and when Doumeki was about to go catch the Yakuza, Nanahara immediately stopped him so he wouldn't get hurt. Nanahara also trusted Doumeki with Yashiro when Doumeki took Yashiro away from that perv detective. Nanahara was relieved when Doumeki did this. Some people may think Nanahara hates Doumeki, but actually, Nanahara saw how much Yashiro suffered to forget Doumeki. that's why you see him so protective of Yashiro when it comes to Doumeki. Therefore, I just can't believe that he is the intel, it's just not possible. He has one of the most good hearted personas in this manga, and for his personality to change suddenly, it would be silly at this point.
Amou: Unlikely Candidate I don't think Amou is the intel, simply because he is the one who helped Doumeki get back into the Yakuza world behind Misumi's back. Secondly, even Amou wondered how the heck Misumi gets his information from! Like when Amou was receiving a call and Misumi knew it was from Tsunakawa. We can clearly see Amou's troubled face; he was annoyed and confused.
Kamiya: A Tough Suspect Kamiya is a tough suspect because if Misumi knows what the other group is about, he must have an intel inside the Enemy's home, right? But here's the trick: Kamiya worked with Doumeki for so many years now, but he never told Misumi about him! Okay, let's assume he didn't know about Doumeki's relationship with Misumi and was assigned just to tell Misumi information about the Sakura group. That would add a question, just how many spies does Misumi have?!
Kageyama: A Questionable Choice And why would someone even consider Kageyama as an intel? I think because Misumi started to have more knowledge about Doumeki when Yashiro took Doumeki to Kage's clinic. Before Misumi had no idea about what Yashiro and Doumeki were up to until Tsunakawa told him in Chapter 58, so I know from where and why people started doubting Kageyama.
Now it’s time for my own Suspects
let's just get crazy! Firstly, let's welcome my first suspect, the one we missed:
Ryuuzaki! Yes, he's released from prison and guess what, he's working with Misumi, and we missed that info! In Chapter 43, we see Misumi talking to someone (Yoneda-kou didn't show his face but showed his hand). And if you noticed, Ryuuzaki always wears his special ring, except when he was in prison because it's not allowed to wear jewelry there. But I don't know why the author didn't show his face and made it secret, and what kind of work Ryuuzaki does for Misumi? Did he get assigned to watch Yashiro? Or he gave him some other important tasks to do, and why all this secrecy?
My second suspect, and it's so crazy that I'm even saying it, but I just have to get it out of my thoughts, is Kuga. I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out first. I have my reasons to doubt him.
Let's first analyze Chapter 58. It's the chapter where Misumi knew about Doumeki, and it's the same chapter where we see Kuga again after four years. Kuga says "Hi Nanahara, long time no see," which means he didn't see Nanahara and Yashiro for a long time. Kageyama said "Are you already finished with work?" which means he doesn't usually return at this hour. He mentioned that he changed his work, and I wonder what kind of work he's doing now.
But what makes me doubt Kuga is when he suddenly asked, "What's Doumeki up to nowadays?" The atmosphere shifts, and Nanahara asks "What with that question all of a sudden?" And he's right! Why did Kuga suddenly ask them that? He knows that Yashiro kicked Doumeki out, so he knew that Yashiro is not involved with Doumeki anymore. So why did he even ask Yashiro such a question? How did he know that Yashiro met Doumeki again or even know about him to ask him that? He should have asked instead, "Did you know that Doumeki is working as a yakuza again?" instead of "What's Doumeki up to nowadays?".
It's funny to me because Kuga said "Well, I have a friend who works at a club in Shibuya. They told me last week about a yakuza guy who was looking for someone. My friend said the guy's name was Doumeki. I thought there's no way." Why was Kageyama shocked about Doumeki? If Kuga knew this a week ago, didn't Kuga tell Kageyama? And why didn't he if that was true?
Secondly, the fact that Kuga said his friend mentioned a guy named Doumeki is suspicious. Like, really, why would your friend tell you that? If your friend encounters a yakuza guy, he would say "There's some scary yakuza searching for a guy," he would not mention the name or even remember it unless Kuga was searching for Doumeki and told his friends about him. But that's unlikely because why didn't he just call Doumeki? We learned that Doumeki didn't change his phone number, so why didn't Kuga call him for those past four years? If we assume that he didn't have Doumeki's number, and he wanted to contact him, he could have simply asked Nanahara for his number.
Kuga was questioning Yashiro a lot, which is not like him. He usually doesn't like speaking with Yashiro unless his relationship with Yashiro changed in those past years, but I don't think so because Yashiro didn't like the conversation and excused himself and left. It's just the whole conversation and act was weird if you ask me.
And let's not forget that on Chapter 63, when Misumi said, "I heard it was Doumeki who protected you, and Yashiro thought, 'Even though you didn't know he was there...', that means Misumi discovered about Doumeki protecting Yashiro after the incident. And who are the people who knew about it? Aside from the Sakura group and Nanahara, it was Kageyama, and he must have shared what happened with Kuga.
I know this might sound crazy but I know that in the end, anything is possible and anyone could be the intel. Maybe some new information will appear in the next few chapters. Still, I really wanted to share my thoughts with you because I want to know what you guys think about all of this.
Ch 63 for you✨

SPOILERS/THOUGHTS UNDER THE CUT
Who's the one to blame?
In the Twittering Birds Never Fly fandom, it often feels like people rush to blame Yashiro for how he treats Doumeki, or for his inability to just say how he feels. But it's not that simple. To truly understand Yashiro's actions, you have to delve into the depths of his pain.
Let's start with the idea that Yashiro doesn't show his emotions. I'd argue he absolutely does, right from the very beginning. In the first chapter, he trusts Doumeki; he reveals a piece of his past, showing a vulnerability he rarely shares with anyone else. He talks about what his stepfather did to him and then lays his cards on the table, stating plainly: "You understand, right? It’s not possible for someone like me to have a normal romantic relationship."
This wasn't him being emotionally unavailable; it was a raw, honest warning—a self-assessment born from trauma so deep it has defined his entire existence.
This vulnerability peaks in the bathroom scene in chapter 23. This isn't a man hiding his feelings; this is a man breaking open. He tells Doumeki everything: his fear of finding him cute, his terror that getting close to Doumeki will get him killed, his anguish over how he's already "screwed him up," and the overwhelming fear of losing him. He lays his entire tormented heart bare, but Doumeki doesn't truly hear him. He’s so focused on his own desire to bind Yashiro to him that he can’t grasp the meaning behind the words.
In Doumeki’s world, he’s never been seen as someone who needs protection; he’s always been the strong one. Yashiro is the exception, the one person who saw him as something precious and treated him with a unique care—even Kuga noticed it instantly. So when Yashiro’s actions are meant to protect him, Doumeki can only interpret them as rejection.
This fundamental misunderstanding is what makes their dynamic so much more painful. For Yashiro, sex has never been about love; it's been about control and survival. As a child, he learned that screaming and crying wouldn't save him. So he adapted. He accepted the constant abuse and redefined himself as someone who enjoyed sexual pain, because if he just stopped fighting, it would be easier. He blames himself, repeating that he “can’t help himself” and “gets into it,” hating his own body for what he sees as a betrayal. His stepfather brainwashed him into believing he wanted it, and that self-loathing is now the core of who he is.
After Yashiro and Doumeki did it in chapter 25, his first instinct is to flee. And when Doumeki finds him again, something in Yashiro shifts. Around chapter 32, he becomes aggressive, saying cruel things he doesn’t mean, hurting Doumeki on purpose. Why? Because he realizes his vulnerable confessions won't work. He understands that no matter what he says, Doumeki will never fully comprehend the trauma that drives him. And sadly, he’s right. Even in the newest chapters, like chapter 57, when Yashiro is clearly triggered during their lovemaking, Doumeki perceives it as a personal rejection of him, never stopping to ask if Yashiro needs him to stop. He just keeps pushing.
Returning to the early chapters, Yashiro tries to explain one last time, through a gesture of pain. In chapter 33, he rips the bandaid from Doumeki’s face and asks, “It’s bleeding again. Does it hurt?” The subtext is staggering. A wound that was covered is now open and bleeding—just like his feelings. He then says it outright: “For me, falling in love feels like this.” He then gets lost in that painful memory, letting a secret longing slip out: "Your sister was lucky she had you." What he's really saying is, I wish someone had been there to protect me. I wish it had been YOU protecting me! It's a wish buried deep inside his heart, so vulnerable, so heartbreaking, so honest that he couldn't stand it and immediately tried to flee, changing the subject.
Deep down, Yashiro knew he was beyond redemption, and I feel this was his final attempt to say goodbye to Doumeki because he’d already decided to end his life. That’s why he shot Doumeki in the foot—to ensure he couldn’t follow him.
But Doumeki did follow, despite his injuries. And when Doumeki saw Yashiro being strangled by Hirata’s hands, he pushed Hirata away from Yashiro. Right in that moment, Yashiro’s greatest fear became a reality. Doumeki was so distracted by Yashiro’s limp body on the floor that he couldn’t even knock Hirata down first and then check on Yashiro; he was so afraid Yashiro might be dead.
And when Yashiro opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Doumeki's blood! Doumeki being potentially killed right in front of his eyes! His fears came true. That’s why I wonder why people don’t understand why he had to let Doumeki go. Doumeki was different; he had people who loved him, he had a family to return to, he had a life away from Yashiro’s messed-up existence.
After he succeeds in cutting Doumeki out of his life for four years, they meet again. And Yoneda Kouzu does something incredibly cruel and brilliant. As they look at each other, we get a close-up of Yashiro’s right eye—his blind one. It’s as if he’s looking at a person he no longer recognizes, a stranger. The author does it again in chapter 41. When Doumeki declares, “It’s my time and my body. It’s mine,” the panel cuts back to Yashiro’s blind eye as he says, "It's mine, huh? Isn't that great."
This is because Yashiro resents Doumeki. Yes, you heard me clearly. He resents Doumeki for not letting him die. If you're shocked by this, let’s return to the moment when Tsunakawa asks Yashiro about Doumeki and why he kicked him in chapter 42. At first, Yashiro answered cruelly yet calmly, but then when Yashiro starts talking about Doumeki saving him, Yashiro’s true feelings finally leak out, laced with anger: “Then one day, the sheer recklessness driven by his shitty excuse of a pea brain ended up saving my life… and caused me grief.” Because he wanted it all to end. Waking up to the same messed-up life, but now with a disability, wasn't a gift. Of course, a part of him is furious with Doumeki for forcing him to continue existing in a life he despises. Hearing his words, Doumeki was shocked and confused. Even Kamiya was confused.
Even in chapter 61, we can clearly see how mad Yashiro was that Doumeki chose once again to risk his life to save him. It's not joy, not grief—it's pure anger
Yashiro isn't rejecting Doumeki. He's rejecting himself. Every push, every cruel word, every attempt to run away isn't about a lack of love for Doumeki; it's born from a profound, unshakable hatred for himself and the belief that he is fundamentally broken. He is in constant, unimaginable pain, and I hope this sheds some light on why he acts the way he does, I tried my best to explain it as clearly as I can. I hope it wasn’t too long.
Yashiro, I hope that your love for Doumeki can help you forget all the pain you've endured
Kageyama x Yashiro edit Perdono
The True Relationship Between Kageyama and Yashiro, Part 2
We don't know much about Kageyama's life after graduation. The first time Yashiro saw him again was when the yakuza showed up at Kageyama's house.
We all know how that situation unfolded, and how Yashiro ended up joining the yakuza to protect Kageyama.
Sometimes It makes me wonder why Kageyama agreed to become an Back Alley doctor, when Yashiro needed him. Was it because Kageyama actually had feelings for Yashiro, or was he aware of what Yashiro had done for him? Even Kuga noticed something was off. In Chapter 1, he pointed out, "You don't seem to have much to say when it comes to him," referring to Yashiro. He even asked if Kageyama "owed him something?!"
Kuga is incredibly perceptive, and my own theories about Kageyama and Yashiro's dynamic are heavily influenced by him. I'll delve into that later, but first, let's consider Kageyama's perspective on Yashiro. He viewed Yashiro as someone lacking empathy and interest in others , he truly believed Yashiro was incapable of loving anyone. Perhaps that's why Kageyama decided to remain just a friend. He was so certain he understood Yashiro, but in reality, he didn't. Everyone around them, including Doumeki, Kuga, and even Nanahara, could see this disconnect.
Chapter 16.5 is central to my post, and here are the key takeaways from it:
* When Kageyama stated he was Yashiro's only friend, Kuga questioned him with, "His friend, huh?!"
* Kageyama was visibly shocked when Kuga revealed Yashiro had feelings for Doumeki. Kageyama's expression shifted, and he admitted he hadn't even considered the possibility that Yashiro could fall in love.
* Seeing Kageyama's reaction, Kuga became uneasy and said , "What’s With You Brooding Like This? What The hell Aren’t You Pleased With?" I don't think Kageyama's response in the manga fully captures what he was feeling; there's definitely more beneath the surface.
* Kuga's comment, "Like I Thought, He’s A Tough Opponent," is particularly revealing. He already knew about Yashiro's feelings for Doumeki, so why would he see Yashiro as an opponent? It's because he sensed that Kageyama also had feelings for Yashiro, even if Kageyama himself hadn't realized it yet, or was ignoring it because he genuinely believed Yashiro couldn't love.
Let's briefly consider Doumeki's reactions, setting aside his obvious jealousy for a moment. He knew Yashiro loved Kageyama, but let's analyze his actions more closely.
The first time Doumeki performed sexual acts with Yashiro in Kageyama's clinic, and Sugimoto walked in, Doumeki apologized, saying, "The doctor was about to see you like this." Later, when they were being intimate in the car, Doumeki moved them to a different location specifically to avoid Kageyama seeing them. Doumeki even thought, "Just thinking about how the doctor might see him like this." At first glance, this might seem like mere jealousy. However, if you re-read those chapters, you'll notice Doumeki didn't want Kageyama to see Yashiro in that state. He likely feared that if Kageyama saw Yashiro like that, he might truly see him – understand him. This would have been a game over for Doumeki, especially since he wasn't aware of Yashiro's feelings for him at that point in the story.
Then, we see a noticeable shift in Kageyama after learning about Yashiro's feelings for Doumeki. Suddenly, he becomes concerned about Yashiro's emotions.
Even Yashiro was hurt and surprised when Kageyama asked him, "Weren't you in love with him?" (referring to Doumeki).
The audacity! Kageyama knew Yashiro loved him, and yet he still brought up Yashiro's other relationships.
If you still believe Kageyama was unaware of Yashiro's feelings for him, let's look at Chapter 35. Yashiro asks Kageyama, "Why did you choose Kuga and not me?" Kageyama isn't shocked by the question.
Once again, he avoids a direct answer. He could have said, "Because I don't have feelings for you," or "Because I love Kuga." Instead, he said he never thought about it” , yea because he didn't consider it a possibility.
And then, after four years, Kageyama is still concerned about Yashiro's relationship with Doumeki? Nanahara tells you about Yashiro's eye! that he's blind in his right eye. As a doctor, as a friend, shouldn't your primary concern be making sure your friend is okay? Yashiro's eye wasn't directly injured; there could be something serious going on, potentially affecting his other eye. Yet, Kageyama's focus is on Yashiro's relationship with Doumeki?
I know We all want Doumeki and Yashiro to end up together, and we hope someone can help them. But I really feel Kageyama's priorities are misplaced here.
I have a lot to say on this topic, but the post might become quite long. I hope I have been able to express my thoughts.
The True Relationship Between Yashiro and Kageyama, Part 1
Okay, so I've been wondering about this for a while now: Did Kageyama actually love Yashiro, especially looking back at the early stuff? Like, Chapter 2 really laid it all out, right?
In chapter 2, when Yashiro was still in high school, Kageyama was the one who approached him first. He totally used Yashiro’s injuries as an excuse to get close – even when Yashiro was like, "Nah, I don't have burns," Kageyama insisted on seeing them!
He touched him in a way that even Yashiro noticed wasn't normal. I know Kageyama has a thing for burn marks and scars, but I don't think he just touches everyone who has them. Yashiro even mentioned that Kageyama touched his scars every single day for two whole weeks!
And even after the nurse returned, they were still doing their usual touching routine in the audio room. That, for me, is beyond just a casual touch; it feels significant.
That's why Yashiro started getting super confused and wondering if he was developing feelings for Kageyama. He kinda tested the waters by confessing to Kageyama that he was into Bi. Kageyama's response was just, "Okay."
And then, he began to avoid touching Yashiro.
After that, Yashiro got kind of desperate. He actually wanted to be burned, to be abused more, just so Kageyama would touch him again!
But here's the kicker: Kageyama stopped touching Yashiro after he found out Yashiro was Bi and had been raped as a kid. He just stayed by his side like a normal friend would. For Yashiro, who had fallen so deeply for Kageyama, it felt like pure torture. So he confessed again, this time telling Kageyama he thought about him whenever he got horny. "My poor Yashiro, this is the best confession he could give 😢" But Kageyama got upset and just left the room.
Then, that girl asked Kageyama out. When Yashiro and Kageyama talked about it, Yashiro told him he should totally go for it. Maybe it was just my imagination, but Kageyama looked disappointed.
Even when the students were bullying Yashiro, and Yashiro grabbed one of the students and kissed him while staring right back at Kageyama, you could totally see Kageyama staring straight back at him before he finally stepped in when things got out of hand.
Oh, and there was that awful conversation where Kageyama told Yashiro he was "pitiful, sad, and pathetic" because he was lonely. Ugh, I hated Kageyama so much for saying that! Yashiro didn't deserve it; he'd already been through enough.
Then, Yashiro went back to his empty home, sat alone with Kageyama's words inside his head, and realized that even the idea of having Kageyama with him was a lie. He was all alone. All he had was a meaningless contact lens that reminded him of his unrequited love, leaving him with a broken heart.
That's probably why, after they graduated, Yashiro just left without a word and disappeared from Kageyama’s life.
So yeah, that's my take on "Part 1" of this Kageyama-Yashiro relationship! What do you guys think?
I know I'm late, but congratulations @jilyreadz on completing your challenge! 🥰
……….
Maybe I'm just completely delusional... It would be too stupid to think she's yashiro's mother?
I have zero proof but... Maybe that's why she has that secret arrangement with doumeki and why she calls him chikara?
I mean, I'm just thinking about this just now while writing but...
Let's say she's in fact her mother... It won't make sense yashiro's jealousy because... He should be able to recognize her, right?
Bur I also remember D going to her place and she telling him that, again, he wasn't able to get it up... So it would be kind of twisted and sick to think she and him... Let's say she said that in another context... Why will she appear now?
She didn't care about yashiro's safety before because she might or might not know... (Personal opinion: she knew but didn't know how to handle that)
Why show up so many years later? She knows is yashiro her son? (If it is) What does she want? Why is she so close to doumeki?
*a little dramatic pause, trying to collect my thoughts*
*sighs*
If not his mother, maybe a stepsister?
God, I don't know what to think about it anymore because I never realized how similar they looked... I was so blind.
I also recall someone saying here in Tumblr that maybe her and kamiya had a bond. Maybe siblings or something similar... (Sorry, I don't remember the username of the person that said it 🤧)
Sooooo many thoughts!!!
But I just love this story because you can always find something hidden
Just ignore my silly twin of thoughts, but I needed it to write it somewhere haha
First, I love that you’re thinking about this too!🥰 and thanks for sharing your thoughts with me
Personally, I don’t believe she’s Yashiro’s mother. If that were the case, wouldn’t Yashiro recognize her? The step-sister theory seems more plausible.
At first, I thought she was a tattoo artist and Doumeki was visiting her regularly because she was doing his tattoos. But then I started noticing the similarities between Yashiro and her , it’s really hard not to! ,and the closeness between Doumeki and the madam 😔
For me, what I would hate the most is if Doumeki was sleeping with her or at least tried to, especially since she looks so much like Yashiro. However, I don’t think that’s the case either, because when they asked him, he repeatedly said he didn’t have a woman. But then again, there’s a possibility , because he also said, “I do it myself because I can’t help it.” Maybe that means he tried but it didn’t work, because that person wasn’t Yashiro.
We’ll just have to wait and see, because Yoneda Kou loves to keep us on edge and make us anxious!
