Beate Gütschow is a German contemporary artist who works primarily through photography. In her work, she analyses the complex and ever-changing relationships between perception, representation and reality.

For her series HC, Hortus Conclusus, she delved into the subject of “Enclosed gardens,” a recurring iconographic motif in Renaissance and Medieval paintings which would depict an idyllic scene contained in the space of a fenced or walled green space inaccessible to an exterior public.

hey so like just a reminder guys. there's no such thing as a "closed practice", and also insinuating that the inuit are a single group that agrees on matters of spiritual doctrine, practice, food, art (including which tattoos are/aren't acceptable), etc. is unironically racist and its really disheartening to see people who're inuit try to destroy their own culture by clinging to some bygone and largely imaginary era of cultural "purity" in which they don't have to accept the fact that we live in a globalized world where artists have the ability to draw inspiration from any culture in the world.

seriously tho, the correct attitude to have is to educate. if you don't like people using your tribal tattoos without knowing the culture and the meaning around it, well you can't stop people using it, so ur only option is to educate them on it. this not only keeps your culture alive and evolving and lets it live on into the future, it also makes for better art because they'll better understand the influences they're drawing from.

the reactionary response is always "i dont like that thing, stop/get rid of it", but the reactionary response is ahistorical and unproductive. you can't stop it, it's never worked and it never will. what you have to do is look at the problem, identify what it is you dislike, why you dislike it, and then what you can ACTUALLY do about it

I’ve seen Tumblr being a broken mess before but this post really takes the cake. OP doesnt have a name. If you look in the notes half the reblogs are just colons. I’ve seen people say clicking on OP’s blog brings them to an entirely random one, and that they couldnt exit it. You’ve got people investigating OP, and white girls getting all defensive.
