ive been embroidering for nearly half my life and it still blows my mind how cheap it is as a hobby tbh. it can be as expensive as you want to make it, sure. I've definitely invested in nicer tools when I had the finances to do so. But relatively compared to other hobbies it's kinda nuts that a splurge on materials is like. 9 bucks for a pack of some of the fanciest needles you can buy. Silk thread for 6 dollars. The industry gold standard thread is the stuff already available at every single craft store in the USA. If you follow exacting patterns that require a lot of color changes it can add up, but those are often projects that require weeks or months of work. Let's say you had 50 color changes and the project uses most of each skein. That's months of hobby-ing right there, for about 50 dollars plus the cost of base materials which is under 10 dollars.
#posts that singlehandedly make me want to take up embroidery
heyyyyyy buddy pspspspsppssppsspsp come over here, look at the pretty embroidery just laying there on the ground, you KNOW you wanna go look at it closer, dont worry about the box on the stick over it that part doesnt matter its irrelevant
Just dropping this here

reading progressive sex ed caricatures with accurate and detailed and realistic diagrams of sexual organs + shows their variation, but all i can think about is how there is no discussion of what srs is besides the fact that it exists
how may people know the before and afters of vaginoplasty? phalloplasty? meta? how it works at all?
this one has been passed around recently from the mayo clinic and that actually makes me so happy because how many of transfeminine people are aware of what their options even look like?
there’s a diagram for phallo and meta from springer link(i believe) and. honestly i’d never seen these before and i dont think i’ve ever seen any diagrams. i know vaguely because of reading papers or listening to people talk about their experience but i’ve never seen it, yk? it makes me more confident in my choice to get meta when i’m older
There’s a website called Transbucket that has a whole archive of before and after photos, surgery costs, surgeon names and locations, and general feedback on complications, sensation, everything. It’s been around for at least a decade, and there are photos of some folks five or eight years down the line. It’s organized by procedure, and it’s very comprehensive. It’s NSFW of course but it’s an amazing resource!!!
Are you considering or have had transition care? | Transbucket.com
Demystify transition! Break irrational medical fear!
Transbucket made me realize it was possible to have the specific atypical surgeries I wanted! A mix of penis persevering vaginoplasty and vaginal preserving phalloplasty! There's so much stuff for all sorts of transitions.
can you imagine how freaky shark mermaids would be like unlike sharks, shark mermaids would have actual arms/hands and could rely on touching things with their hands to see if they’re prey rather than having to bite like sharks do. like youre just swimming in the ocean and suddenly you feel a strong grip on your leg, you freak the FUCK out because uh what????? the fuck??? youre swimming alone in the ocean??
a head pops out of the water, dorsal fin pointed from its back and it just points at you and says in a low whisper: “i thought you were a seal. please dont swim alone like this, im sorry i scared you i just wanted to see what you are” and then disappears back into the depth. what the fuck.

literally though if you feel like your life is slipping through your fingers and every day goes too fast… try doing hard things, not just taking the easy route, like reading and making art and exercising and cooking a meal from scratch and journaling, doing these things without distraction, without being absorbed on a screen… the time will stretch and you’ll be reminded that life is long and beautiful if you make it so.
Reblogging this with these tags because oh my goodness
To the person I reblogged this from THANK YOU i am now going to stick this on my pinboard where I’m gonna see it every single day

so you’ve fallen in love with an under appreciated actor with a terrible filmography: a memoir
Stede’s little face! They’re being attacked by the British, they might all get arrested or die, but it doesn’t matter because Ed came back. Ed chose him.
He knew. He may not have KNOWN known, but he knew.
It's called the Global Justice Report, it is here. This is an actionable plan which can be sent to legislators and demanded of political parties. We could save the world within our lifetimes.
It has always been possible. It is still possible.

I forgot to eat dinner so I'm having 11 pm corn on the cob. This counts as a meal
... It's possible that I really need to do some grocery shopping
Okay for those of you living in pitiful ignorance, take a raw ear of corn with the husk on and cut all the way around the base (as pictured: above the point where the husk meets the cob, so that the entire husk is severed but still wrapped around the corn. Do not cut through the cob.) Then, with the husk still on, microwave it for 5-7 minutes. It'll basically steam it inside the husk. Remove from microwave --it will be hot, so use a mitt or a towel--and firmly pull the top of the husk/silk, which should come off easily in one piece, unsheathing a flawless corn on the cob. If it doesn't, you probably need to cut a little higher around the base, so all the leaves are severed. No picking off silk!
For the nonbelievers (and for me, a second corn)
This website works so well

I think about The Man of the Hole so often. 27 years alone. 27 years with no one to speak to but strangers to wave to. Survived a genocide, a massacre that killed everyone he had ever known and later, an assassination attempt. He still tried to warn researches about the traps he built. He was only about 60 when he died in 2022. The people who tormented him in life later desecrated his grave.
I do think it is important to share the stories of the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island and Ishi and the countless other indigenous people who experienced the profound trauma of being the last survivor but it is important to remember that the last Aboriginal families in Australia to be contacted by Europeans were resettled in the 1980s and the Indian government has proposed a plan that will mean total genocide for the Shompen people. The total eradication of indigenous peoples, their cultures, their languages, their ways of life, is not something which occurred in a distant ugly past but an ongoing process.
It's very rare for me to headcanon a character as aspec without some kind of overt onscreen "evidence." It doesn't take much--a single line of dialogue referencing any disinterest or obliviousness toward sex/romance is often enough for me to happily run with it--but I typically need to have something I can cite, some reason to say, "This is why."
Frenchie is, I believe, the first character where I just said, "That guy's aroace," without having anything specific in the text to point to. It's a headcanon built purely off of vibes: the way he just chills with other people on the crew, the way it seems (to me) that none of the flirting or romantic affection on the show so much as ruffles his hair, the way he's booked and busy doing stuff and none of it is about sexytimes. Rather than overt evidence, there's just a sort of contented absence, and really, that's mainly how my own life is. On an average day, I'm not avoiding romantic and/or sexual advances, and I'm not answering questions about, "Well, who are you into, then???" I'm just getting on with my full and happy life, with the people who matter to me. For Frenchie, that means everything from enthusiastically making cat-themed flags to running cons to blowing things up for fun with friends.
That contented absence, I think, extends to scenes where you might not otherwise expect it. See, when Frenchie calls Oluwande "babe" or sits with his head resting on Izzy's thigh or has a cute interior decorating conversation with Wee John, none of that pings for me in a shippy way. Which, in a sense, feels even more pointed to me than it would to just not have moments like that. Because any one of them could've been framed as romantic or sexy, but I don't get that from them.
By now, I've seen enough of Joel Fry's work to know that he can definitely play horny or smitten or seductive, so there's no reason he couldn't have done it. Frenchie could have had something like that. A love interest, a hookup, a flirtation. But he doesn't. Even compared to other "unattached" characters on the show, we don't get any moments like that for him. He never bashfully responds to someone else's flirting, like Fang does with Lucius, he never references sex he's had in the past, like Wee John talking about walks of shame, and he never makes an innocuous proposition in an undeniably alluring manner, like Roach's "What if we just...don't?" to Fang. Personally, I love that for Frenchie.
(BTW, I know plenty of fans disagree with me, on the aceness and/or the aro-ness. That's okay, they can do their thing and I'll do mine. I'll wade through the shipping-related Frenchie fanworks out there to find the ones without that angle.)
One of my biggest wishes when we were hoping for season 3 was canonical aroace Frenchie. Granted, for it to be canonical through more than Word of God, "contented absence" probably wouldn't have been enough. But I really, really wish we'd gotten to see how the show would've talked about ace stuff, because I bet it would've been beautiful.

Love Frenchie being aroace - he does play that way to me (so does Wee John, for that matter).
Eeee, thanks for tagging!! My read has always been that Frenchie is ace, and I love the aroace reading. His character just feels incredibly ace, in the same way Stede is demi (though I think there is a very legit and strong reading of the show for demi!Stede). And the absence of something, like you mentioned above, is just as telling as something being there.
Like you, Fallen, I think I've had that headcanon cause that's also kinda how I live life. Just bopping around being comfortable around others, and while not being bothered or affected by the sexuality around them, not really engaging with it when it comes to me.
I do love this reading of Frenchie and love when I find fan works of Frenchie that isn't too shippy. (I know this is my own personal preference.) Frenchie is an amazing character!
The demi Stede and/or Ed meta I mentioned in my original tags were actually yours, @follows-the-bees and @celluloidbroomcloset! As I said, I've historically needed at least a bit of overt dialogue before I've been able to headcanon a character as aspec, Frenchie being the big exception. Like @celluloidbroomcloset says in one of your metas on the subject, "allosexuality as default" gets deeply ingrained, and it took reading the analysis/observations from both of you to sort of give my mind permission to go, "Oh wait, I can examine this from another perspective." After all, I'm still aroace even when I don't talk about it, so why couldn't the same be the case for Stede or Ed being demi?
I do think it's possible that the show created fantastic demi rep completely by accident, through a combination of 1) the straight showrunner taking a light touch because he wasn't initially sure how much physical intimacy the leads would be comfortable with and 2) Rhys and Taika's long, deep friendship playing such an integral role in shaping what Stede and Ed's romantic/sexual relationship looks likes. But whether it was intentional or not, the demi read of the characters is 100% legitimate (especially Stede, IMO!)
And @follows-the-bees, thanks so much for pointing this out in your tags:
I was actually looking through some of my Joel Fry screenshots just yesterday, including the close-up where it's clear that he's leaning on the crate, and I completely missed it. It's so commonly stated that Frenchie is resting his head on Izzy's thigh there that I guess I didn't believe my lying eyes, lol. No need to apologize for pedantry--I appreciate the clarification! In that case, I could point to Frenchie leaning/lounging beside Roach during ghost stories or holding Izzy's hand in the production still of Izzy crying, moments where he's a bit more physically affectionate with someone but (to me, at least) it doesn't really read as romantic or sexual.
Yeah, I don't particularly think that the writers sat down with the intention of crafting Stede (or Ed) as demi. It emerged from the characterization Rhys gave him as well as the story arc (I've said before: there are a lot of ways they could have chosen to represent Stede's coming out and subsequent experience of homosexual desire, and they go a very demi route). Much as Rhys didn't consciously play Stede as autistic or the writers didn't intentionally write Izzy as racist - they simply became that via the story.
I still find it very very hard to read especially Stede as allo, based on how he's repped in the show, and I've yet to see anyone provide a convincing reading of him like that.
