Happy holidays! This was inspired by your second prompt: 'Luna looking through an album full of Diana pictures'. I imagine she has quite complicated feelings about where she comes from, so I wanted to give her an expression that's hard to read. You can decide what's going through her head. I hope you like this, and that you have a lovely end to the year! :)

Heya! Your Mira/Diana prompt immediately caught my attention since I haven't seen this ship before, I love seeing other people's rarepairs and I wanted to give this one a shot! Also I'm a toxic yuri enjoyer so I actually latched onto this prompt fast haha. Drawing Diana like that was interesting and it was my first time drawing Mira so it was a lot of fun! I hope you enjoy your gift and happy holidays! 🎉
i'm so proud of you

Happy birthday to she!
diana is such an amazing character because she stands at the center of d-team. both of her teammates are mysterious people whose consciousnesses traveled from far in the future to this point in time in order to alter the course of history, while she's just an ordinary woman. she isn't here as part of some grand plot, she doesn't have a special mission - she had no reason to even believe the experiment at d-com would be anything more than what they said it was. there's nothing special about her, and yet her actions arguably have the biggest impact on the narrative.
when she chooses to leave the facility with sigma gravely injured and phi infected with radical-6, it's a normal decision for her to make. she's not here for a mission to prevent a pandemic. she's just a normal person who signed up for an experiment. she's a NURSE! she can't let the people in front of her die. sigma and phi try to tell her what will happen if she activates the elevator to the surface, but none of that matters to her. she doesn't carry the trauma of seeing a world that's been all but destroyed. when she decides to activate the elevator anyway, she knows that's what she's going to bear soon. she chooses to save the lives of the two people in front of her, even if it means she'll bring about the deaths of 6 billion.
it's one of my favorite scenes in the entire series because it's such an amazing display of character writing. it shows you exactly what diana thinks and what her values are. and on top of that, it gives you so much insight into luna's character as well. THIS is who luna was based on: diana, the person who could not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. is it any wonder that luna was so self-conscious about whether or not she obeyed the three laws of robotics? it isn't as if she was programmed to follow them; but no doubt, diana's values were programmed into her.
and the thing is, she knows it's all her fault. she knows that she's guilty for all of those deaths. she killed six people, first by voting the deaths of c-team, and then by choosing to run away from the bomb and letting q-team die in the process. and she's soon to have killed six billion people by choosing to save sigma and phi. she fully believes that she's selfish, and she's right! she makes excuses for why she did those things to deflect responsibility so that she can save those who are closest to her. she even denies it when zero, who can literally read her mind, calls her out on it! it's incredibly selfish of her, but you're still meant to empathize with her as the player character because of the horrible circumstances that led to her even having to make these kinds of choices. diana is such a complex character and I love that so much about her.
