I also think it is part of what makes her a great contrast to Lee. Like I love my Boi but this idiot jumped in to fight 3 enemies for a girl he met once and she was not even nice to him, (no hate on Sakura, Lee came on WAY too strong).

Lee can be so selfless that he lacks self preservation so Tenten being able to balance that makes their relationship so fun to watch.

To

But for opposite reasons. Plus in a team like Gai's you have to be a little selfish or you will end up being lost in the shuffle, she needs to be able to put her foot down and say "this not working for me so [inset request] now"

I was super confused about someone saying a specific page in the new chapter was "bad paneling" because it was actually very easy to follow & understand imo....

I've come to realize people on twitter who say they like Sanji just don't like Sanji at all. They're actively embarrassed by even the most harmless facets of his personality. Anything other than the very limited concept of Mr. Prince in Alabasta is considered an affront to nature. It's not just when Oda crosses the line with the perv gag that upsets them. It's when Sanji is silly. When he's whimsical. When he's a submissive woman lover who throws hearts everywhere. When he's a hot head. When he refuses to go back on his morals no matter how lame it makes him look.

When he's literally just being himself.

They want to actively erase half of Sanji's personality. Strip him down to a boring one dimensional character.

This is why they LOVE opla Sanji. He's everything they've diluted Sanji into being within their own minds.

I think there is a mention in the book that they also come in red aside from the green we see? But yeah!! One piece has always been about love: love for you friends and crewmates, to the point you’ll risk your life for them; love of freedom, the idea of being free and do whatever you want, not being controlled by superior entities; love for your family, especially siblings; love for the common people, love for the oppressed, love for the unlucky, the poor, the weak, the slaves, which are never ever looked down by luffy and the crew. Love for adventure, the longing of sailing and explore the world; even love for your ship, which is basically a living being if loved enough. Love for your LIFE. I want to live. And, of course, romantic love. So, if in the end Imu’s backstory would eventually revolve around love, I wouldn’t be too surprised. We also know that Oda likes to incorporate different elements into his characters’ stories, so it’s never going to be just “one thing”. But romantic love as a start? Neat. Just my opinion.

Agree with everything here, but if I could toot my own horn for a second, I would like to shamelessly remind everyone that I've BEEN saying One Piece fans need to stop dismissing romance as an ever evolving & integral theme to this story just because 22 year old Oda was still immature & thought romantic love was "just for girls" in the 90s lol [x]

Romance Piece is REAL & it's time y'all got on board! Don't get left behind!

I would also dare to argue that One piece is just a Romance. and I don't mean that in the hetero-normative genre sense.

I mean that in the literary sense.

Like how Odyssey's are romantic, how tales of adventure are romantic and of course how PIRATE STORIES have been historically written as romantic.

There are countless songs and tropes from just about every culture about how people chose the sea as their one and only love. And the amount of influences and references Oda makes to these old stories and time period means he deeply understands this.

obvious ones like:

-Peg leg (Zeff)

-a woman waiting at port (Kiya)

-a man choosing the sea over his home (Yassop)

and more subtle/lesser known ones like:

-slaves becoming privates (the sun pirates)

-the democracy of different pirate crews (i.e Big mom vs say white breads, one is run like a dictatorship the other a family structure

-how a lot of pirate either started as or became rebels/revolutionaries in their home countries

-how Venice did have some of the best ships builders in the world (ref for W7)

-how women were more likely to be navigators (inspo for Nami)

So One piece at its core is a romance, just not one that aligns with the current cultural understanding of it.

Listen, I think the finale was AMAZING because of the April, May and June switcharoo where they were replaced by Webby on the 1987's show, but mashed into one on the reboot by then having Daisy adopt May and June.

But it'd have been even better if Daisy was one of Beakley's daughters so that Webby (April) stayed Beakley's granddaughter AND Daisy's niece, thus making May and June her nieces too at the end!! and everything comes together!!! theyy should've let me write the show
