I suggest listening to it while reading!
After exiting the cinema, the blinding light hits your eyes with a powerful burst. You were from the west side, your family was never rich, but your parents tried to get you nice things. What you wanted in reality, was a life worth living for, where your dad wasn’t overworking himself and your mom wasn’t so depressed and stressed out. But a seventeen-year-old, like yourself, shouldn’t worry about it. You’re supposed to worry about grades and graduating sooner or later.
As you walk to the sidewalk back to your small house, you spotted some of your greaser friends, driving down the road in the black mustang. From what you could tell Dallas Winston was behind the wheel, accompanied by Johnny Cade, and Ponyboy Curtis.
You decided to wave down the car to get a ride home, and maybe even get a bite at a local diner. As the black mustang came to a stop in front of you, you couldn’t but smile at the three boys. You popped the back door open and sat in the back with Pony, he was always a creative kid, but sometimes he was immature. Johnny was trying to tame his hair with a comb but was failing, you giggled at the anxious boy and ruffled his hair a bit.
“Golly, I guess you just can’t tame that greasy hair of yours, Johnnycakes,” Ponyboy said with a mischievous smile on his face, while he lit up a cigarette. Johnny just sighed, but he had a content smile on his face. You always felt bad for him, always getting beat at home, so you tried to get him to smile whenever you could.
Dallas also had a smile on his face, even though he was a dangerous and angry guy, he was he was loyal and protective of his friends. You always looked up to him for that. All of these boys have gone through their personal hell and back, but they were good kids. Just misunderstood, treated like outsiders.
“So what do ya need, Doll? A ride home?” Dallas asked you as he drove down the road in his recluse manner. He moved his hair out of eyes and looked at you through the rear view mirror.
“That, and maybe a bite to eat,” You confess as you also hear Ponyboy’s stomach growl from beside you. Johnny looks at Dallas as if to say,”Can we?” After a few seconds, Dallas sighs and agrees, which you all cheer to.
Once you all get to the diner, you went and sat down in a booth. Once you ordered your lunch, you started to converse with the boys while songs for a jukebox play in the background. Then a song you knew all to well started to play.
Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, a song you dedicated to your crush, Dallas Winston. You started to hum to it, bringing a smile to Dallas’s lips. Johnny also smiled knowing about your said crush on the infamous Dally. If only you knew that whenever this song came on Dallas thought of you as well.
