At first glance, it’s just a set of long nails. As an instructor, they’re reaching the level of too long. But I always have a hard time cutting them down, not necessarily because they are pretty, but because of what they represent to me. As someone who grew up biting her nails, these babies are special. Because I initially bit them out of habit, then because they always tore from weakness, and then from illness and stress. It’s probably been only the last 10 years that I’ve really stopped. But, it is a prime representation of how far I have come in life. If they look this good, it means I’m physically well and have manageable stress. It’s my one true indicator of my health. Sometimes it’s nice when Facebook throws up a memory! I rarely take progress selfies anymore, but this gem on the left is a perfect example of how Pilates has helped my posture and overall muscle tone. I have slimmer and stronger muscles, and a much taller profile. I can tell how much my psoas has stretched and how much taller and straighter I am. Sometimes you just need a different color perspective. I took a break from my brightly colored mermaid hair for a few months and went brown. It was eye-opening how it sapped my personality. My make-up looked terrible, and I felt so hum-drum boring. After 4 months, I couldn’t tolerate it anymore. Out came the bleach and a giant tube of cupcake pink hair dye, and I feel better. And my make-up looks right again! People have commented on how it has brightened me back up.
