this is not an anti-polyamory post. I love and support my polyamorous friends and it's a wonderful relationship structure for those who genuinely want it.

However. if your response to asexual people talking about their struggles to be respected within relationships and have their needs taken seriously is "Can't you just be poly so your partner can have sex with other people?" you are being aphobic. just like the people who say, "Well, can't you have sex anyway even if you don't want it?" you are continuing to treat the allo partner's desire for sex as a non-negotiable need that any 'solution' must be focused on filling. the message you are giving to ace people is "Any relationship with you is inherently incomplete and defective, so you are unfit for monogamy." this kind of rhetoric leads to many aspec people being actively pressured and coerced into open relationships that they do not want. pursuing a polyamorous lifestyle needs to be a free choice, not something people are forced into because they've been told that they have no other options.

In like 1998 my very femme lesbian friend went to Pride in London and was all excited at the “teddy bears picnic” happening in one of the city parks.
