Platonic Requests for Affection
âIf you insist.â
Silque was happy to keep Forsyth company if that is what he wished. The evening was starting to slowly turn into night and the atmosphere was slowly starting to shift from lively to a slower pace. Silque had come to check in on Forsyth. They didnât know each other well, yet, but already Silque had a good opinion of the knight.Â
She moved to join him proper, not settling down just yet, but giving him a warm smile as she approached Forsyth.Â
âI donât think weâve talked properly with each other. These days it seems everyone is keeping busy. I am glad to have a chance to speak now.â
Silque was right; he hadnât spoken to her often, and when he had it usually amounted to a few polite words in the infirmary. She had treated many of his wounds, and he had thanked her as any knight should, and that was the extent of it. But she had always had a calming way about her â something that reminded him a little of his mother, and the faint memories of her gentle manner when heâd run to her after a scrape or fall.
At this moment, he needed it.
As he closed his eyes, he could still hear Pythonâs animalistic yell as the witchâs spell burned into his flesh. He had wounds borne from magic himself, but this was something else entirely; it seemed as if Pythonâs entire side were on fire, and the unbridled agony in his cry was unlike anything heâd ever heard. Heâd lost most of his consciousness shortly after, and although Forsyth had sat dutifully by his cot for a while, the stifling air and stench of blood had eventually become too much for him to bear.
And what was he now, he asked himself. Useless. Hopeless. An onlooker merely observing the suffering of his friend.
His friend, who heâd brought into all this.
His voice trembled as he asked the question; a question he wasnât sure he wanted to hear answered.
âH-How is he?â
Silque wanted to reach out and reassure Forsyth. For some people it could be soothing to have physical contact when they were worried, but for others it was like pricking them with a needle. A sharpness, or even uneasiness, about being touched during those moments. Silque did not want to worsen Forsythâs mood as it was clear he was already in a bad place.Â
So she gave him a warm smiling, trying to reassure him through the soft expression. What had happened was terrible, beyond that. Python had taken an awful blow and the magic that had burned into his skin, well, Silque could still see the injury clearly in her mind. She had done her best, as she always did. It was part of her job here to heal treat the injured and she would do it without a question. It was her path in life and she accepted it as she always had.Â
Still, it was never easy to see something to that degree.Â
âHe will recover. He is a poor state right now and he may have scars from what happened, but he will live and he will be able to fight again.â The last part, the one about fighting, might not be important to Forsyth, but it had meaning. Python might not be the same completely once he healed and was back on his feet, but heâd be able to do things.
âIt will take time though. Magic can only do so much. The body needs time to heal on itâs own too. How are you?â
