if a surgeon says you have to fast, you have to fast. end of story.
if a surgeon says your child has to fast, they have to fast. even if they are rreeeaaaallly hungry. even if they beg for food. even if they cry. even if they throw a tantrum. even if they scream for hours.
if a surgeon says you have to fast, you have to fast.
For a bit more context/plainer language from a child life specialist:
the medicine the doctor gives you to make you sleep, called anesthesia, makes you sleep differently than you do at night. Medicine sleep is so deep that the muscle that keeps your stomach closed falls asleep too.
Your stomach and your lungs are connected by your esophagus, which connects to your mouth and brings air to your lungs and food into your stomach.
Because youāll be laying flat on your back, This means if you have food in your stomach it can come up out of your stomach, and because theyāre connected by your esophagus, food or drink that comes out of your stomach can go into your lungs.
Because they arenāt supposed to have stuff other than air in them, having food or drinks in your lungs can make you really sick.
The doctors really donāt want that to happen, which is why they ask you not to eat or drink anything the day youāre having your surgery/whatever youāre getting anesthesia for. It can be really hard but itās important!
them: you donāt watch game of thrones?? really? how come?
me:Ā
@scarcity-of-cats @annajanes
Itās called Unconsenting MediaĀ
Oh my god, this is going on my list along with doesthedogdie.com
Holy shit thatās useful
I probably wonāt find myself using this but for my followers: if you canāt handle this shit, USE THIS. If you think a movie or tv show may be hard to watch, do your homework.
1 - the very reason why I donāt watch GoT
2 - This and rotten apples are some of the best sites ever
3 - Does the dog die have a TON of subcategories, such as jumpscares, strobe effects, does a kid die, does an LGBT person dies and many, many others (they actually link to unconsenting media under āsomeone is sexually assaultedā). Please save it to tour favorites is really freaking usefull
Useful info. But⦠(and I sort of doubt it) is there a database like this for car and/or motorcycle accidents? I end up having to give up on lots of movies and shows because thereās often too much for me to handle still. Donāt really like playing the guessing game of āhow traumatized is this gonna make meā
Does the Dog Die has car crashes, and if someone gets hit by a car
Seriously, they have a ton of things, and if they donāt, you can reach out to them and theyāll add a category
Hey yāall I know I havenāt posted in literal ages but hereās a bunch of sites who do this way better than I do!
I have epilepsy (among other things) and use these sites. When friends havenāt seen a show/movie and canāt inform me if itās safe, I browse these sites. Saved me from having seizures.
as someone who never even realized there were websites with trigger warnings, this is absolutely incredible information
is this orange or yellow.
its yellow you are all wrong i have decided just now
hey op, what does this say?
nice try but iām not colorblind it says 71
Am I tripping?
Is that not 71?
Youāre slightly colorblind, that is 74 and the color of the car is orange.
world heritage post
Itās orange
itās literally 71
Bestie itās 74
Yāall it clearly fucking says 21
where are you getting that from?
Babes itās 81 what r yall seeing
its 74 bestie you might be colorblind
That 81 person can see shrimp colors
I took exactly the same image, increased the saturation, and shifted it to a part of the spectrum most people can see better.
For all your no-YOU-have-the-weird-color-vision argument-solving needs.
Also, the car is orange.
Posting this in case anyone is color blind and doesnāt know it lmao
@cartoondog
People always gloss over how mentally damaging it can be to work in retail. I fucking hate that whenever I say āI could never work in retail againā someone has to reply āYou snowflake millennials canāt take a starter job because you have to INTERACT with other peopleā No. Fuck you. Iāve worked as a planetarium host. Iāve worked as a public speaker. Iāve worked as a tutor and as a student teacher. I can work with people. I can work with crowds. Retail was fucking different. Retail was being treated as a subhuman. Retail was being treated so poorly that you have anxiety attacks before work. Having to work retail was a factor in my last suicide attempt. If I hear you say one fucking word about retail workers playing the victim I will personally break every bone in your body. Fuck You.
The holidays are coming up. Retail workers are going to be spiraling into a nightmare beyond human comprehension. If youāve worked retail, you know this. If you havenāt, be aware of it. Please be kind to every retail worker you come across. Please be patient and understanding. It is misery out there.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!
Break the stigma
I could not reblog this fast enoughĀ
Iāve worked in food banks a lot, and I can verify that these are true! Here are some other tips for helping charities that give items other than food:
- Toilet paper, paper towels, and napkins are lovely, helpful items
- Diapers, baby formula, and baby clothes always help parents who need extra support after WIC benefits are applied
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste are incredibly, incredibly important
- A lot of people skip breakfast because they donāt have the extra items to put into mixes and things. You can avoid that problem by donating granola bars, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc.
- On the above note, peanut butter lasts forever, itās full of protein, and it has enough healthy fat to supplement a diet that is otherwise calorie-restrained. I know the given list says that their food bank got a lot of it, but the few Iāve worked with could never keep it on the shelves
- All shower products are a gift, even if theyāre just travel-sized soaps and things that youāve stolen from hotel but never plan to use (no judgement!)
- Those little bagged toys that come in fast food meals? They make fantastic stocking-stuffers for parents who have trouble affording Christmas
- I once watched a 60 year-old man cry because he got a glasses cleaning cloth and cleaning solution. They were luxury items he could never justify getting for himself, so he just scratched every pair of glasses he owned by using the hems of his shirts
- If you have used electronics, PLEASE consider donating them! That outdated iPod from 2009 that just sits in your drawer could be a kidās most prized possession and the thing that helps them feel like theyĀ ābelongā (bonus points if you leave some age-friendly positive songs downloaded onto it)
- No one has ever turned down socks or underwear
- Money is the most versatile donation, because it can be used to buy off-the-wall things, food items that would spoil, clothing in a special size, etc.
- If you canāt donate money, consider donating your time! Even a few hours of volunteering can help a non-profit organization help countless people!
- If you accidentally buy shoes that donāt fit and can afford the loss, consider donating them, especially if theyāre specialty shoes! I knew a man who got a good job in construction but was fired on his first day because he couldnāt afford the steel-toed boots he needed
- Cans of soda are great donations! You can use a can of any flavor soda - regular or diet - to replace all extra ingredients in a dry cake mix. We used to give out a box of cake mix, a container of frosting, and a can of soda. (These can also be a lot of fun because of the combinations! Orange soda + vanilla cake mix = creamsicle, cherry cola + devilās food = chocolate-covered cherry, etc)
- The best advice is just to think of the things you use every day and couldnāt live without, then try to donate that. Contact solution, hand lotion, air freshener, lint rollers, and other things that make your life easier will 100% help someone else
