*doom music starts to play* I actually kindof like scheduling these kinds of appointments now...
but seriously Fellas, don't forget to schedule a pap smear every couple of years just in case. If you still have a cervix you can still get cervical cancer. ilu
this has been a psa
i've had this as an idea since 2017 btw
damn, tumblr says my art is ass and trans people is eye strain so no blaze for me :\
it'd be a shame if this...
blazed the old fashion way...
I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything
Hello, y'all. As a bitch who loves themself some data (and also have recently been told that my idea of a "normal" amount of words might be slightly skewed), I'm so curious to know:
How many words did you write on ao3 this year?
0-50k words
50k-100k words
100k-250k words
250k-500k words
500k-750k words
750k-1 million words
1 million+ words
PLEASE feel free to reblog to increase sample size- I would really love to know the spread of people's word counts!
one of the many reasons to insist upon chronological timelines is that it's much, much harder to scroll forever if you can catch up with yourself. if you can run out of tumblr because you reach yesterday, that is a good and helpful prompt to do something else.
Todayās the only day you can reblog this until next year guys.

Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.
Uh, hey, be careful about that, because it sounds kinda like you think people on disability or social security (for retirement especially) are a problem
I'mm'a be real, bud, that is such a gross misreading of what I've said that I almost have to assume you're not arguing in good faith. To argue that people on disability are "making money on the value of other people's labor" is a colossal stretch. Hell, in the current system, it's a stretch to say they're making money at all. "Barely surviving, if that" would be more accurate.
People on disability aren't "making money on other people's labor". They're being supported by taxes because we as a culture believe that all people deserve to have their basic needs fulfilled. If your response to "aim your anger at capitalists, not laborers who get paid more than you" is to whatabout with disabled people, who rarely have any capital at all and are in no way the subject of this post, you may be doing exactly what the post is warning against, and aiming your anger at the wrong people.
Reblogging this manually. Op doesn't want credit for fear of being terminated.
i'm discovering this ancient spiritual practice called taking it one day at a time. have you guys heard of this
for real though, everyone in my life lately keeps telling to do take it a day at a time (iykyk my life just kinda blew up recently) and my gut reaction is "HOW??" it seems like an empty platitude. and i want actionable steps! so here's how i've been genuinely trying to focus on just one day at a time, if it helps anyone else in survival mode
literally started by giving myself the smallest of goals and then immense grace on everything else. every day, all i needed to do was
eat something. i've completely lost my appetite but i'm making a true attempt to eat at least one meal. i might not be able to finish it but i have to make an honest attempt
shower. this one is usually hard when i'm depressed but showering also helps me feel more reset and okay then anything, hence its priority on the list.
show up for work. i let my manager know what was going on to explain the slow in productivity. i'm giving myself grace on the decreased output, and just putting my focus on just showing up.
that's literally it. as the days have passed i've been able to add other things like cleaning, exercise, social time, paying bills, and productivity at work. but i think the only way i was able to add those things was to just strip each day down to the bare minimum. anything else was just extra.
and i think that by just accomplishing these 3 things, I was able to face the other stuff. this got the momentum going, got me feeling like a person again, and that's the first step if I'm going to even start to think about other tasks.
eventually I'll need to pick my head up and start thinking long term again, but for now I'm just thinking about what's absolutely essential in THIS 24 hour period.
sorry if this is so so so obvious to everyone else, but for me I thrive on clear definitions and struggle with task paralysis when i get overwhelmed, so yeah anyways
Reblog this to ease the back pain of the person you reblogged it from

My therapist, who specializes in adults with ADHD, recently told me that all of her clients need a three day crash period after a big life change. Finish the semester? Crash. Change jobs? Crash. Go on a really cool, really relaxing vacation? Crash the moment you get home.
It's true of literally all of her clients. She works with a lot of them to put systems in place so that their crashes are only three days. This includes the high-powered execs who travel regularly for work. It does not matter how successful or high functioning they are - they have ADHD, and crashing is just part of the process of living with it.
I'm sharing this with all you ADHD friends out there, just in case you (like me) start shaming yourself if your crash lasts more than one day. It turns out three days is kind of the best case scenario. Be kind to yourselves!
please help me- i used to be pretty smart but iām having so much trouble grasping the concept of diegetic vs non-diegetic bdsm!
gfkjldghfd okay first of all I'm sorry for the confusion, if you're not finding anything on the phrase it's because I made it up and absolutely nobody but me ever uses it, but I haven't found a better way to express what I'm trying to say so I keep using it. but now you've given me an excuse to ramble on about some shit that is only relevant to me and my deeply inefficient way of talking and by god I'm going to take it.
SO. the way diegetic and non-diegetic are normally used is to talk about music and sound design in movies/tv shows. in case you aren't familiar with that concept, here's a rundown:
diegetic sound is sound that happens within the world of the movie/show and can be acknowledged by the characters, like a song playing on the stereo during a driving scene, or sung on stage in Phantom of the Opera. it's also most other sounds that happen in a movie, like the sounds of traffic in a city scene, or a thunderclap, or a marching band passing by. or one of the three stock horse sounds they use in every movie with a horse in it even though horses don't really vocalize much in real life, but that's beside the point, the horse is supposed to be actually making that noise within the movie's world and the characters can hear it whinnying.
non-diegetic sound is any sound that doesn't exist in the world of the movie/show and can't be perceived by the characters. this includes things like laugh tracks and most soundtrack music. when Duel of Fates plays in Star Wars during the lightsaber fight for dramatic effect, that's non-diegetic. it exists to the audience, but the characters don't know their fight is being backed by sick ass music and, sadly, can't hear it.
the lines can get blurry between the two, you've probably seen the film trope where the clearly non-diegetic music in the title sequence fades out to the same music, now diegetic and playing from the character's car stereo. and then there are things like Phantom of the Opera as mentioned above, where the soundtrack is also part of the plot, but Phantom of the Opera does also have segments of non-diegetic music: the Phantom probably does not have an entire orchestra and some guy with an electric guitar hiding down in his sewer just waiting for someone to break into song, but both of those show up in the songs they sing down there.
now, on to how I apply this to bdsm in fiction.
if I'm referring to diegetic bdsm what I mean is that the bdsm is acknowledged for what it is in-world. the characters themselves are roleplaying whatever scenarios their scenes involve and are operating with knowledge of real life rules/safety practices. if there's cnc depicted, it will be apparent at some point, usually right away, that both characters actually are fully consenting and it's all just a planned scene, and you'll often see on-screen negotiation and aftercare, and elements of the story may involve the kink community wherever the characters are. Love and Leashes is a great example of this, 50 Shades and Bonding are terrible examples of this, but they all feature characters that know they're doing bdsm and are intentional about it.
if I'm talking about non-diegetic bdsm, I'm referring to a story that portrays certain kinks without the direct acknowledgement that the characters are doing bdsm. this would be something like Captive Prince, or Phantom of the Opera again, or the vast majority of bodice ripper type stories where an innocent woman is kidnapped by a pirate king or something and totally doesn't want to be ravished but then it turns out he's so cool and sexy and good at ravishing that she decides she's into it and becomes his pirate consort or whatever it is that happens at the end of those books. the characters don't know they're playing out a cnc or D/s fantasy, and in-universe it's often straight up noncon or dubcon rather than cnc at all. the thing about entirely non-diegetic bdsm is that it's almost always Problematic⢠in some way if you're not willing to meet the story where it's at, but as long as you're not judging it by the standards of diegetic bdsm, it's just providing the reader the same thing that a partner in a scene would: the illusion of whatever risk or taboo floats your boat, sometimes to extremes that can't be replicated in real life due to safety, practicality, physics, the law, vampires not being real, etc. it's consensual by default because it's already pretend; the characters are vehicles for the story and not actually people who can be hurt, and the reader chose to pick up the book and is aware that nothing in it is real, so it's all good.
this difference is where people tend to get hung up in the discourse, from what I've observed. which is why I started using this phrasing, because I think it's very crucial to be able to differentiate which one you're talking about if you try to have a conversation with someone about the portrayal of bdsm in media. it would also, frankly, be useful for tagging, because sometimes when you're in the mood for non-diegetic bodice ripper shit you'd call the police over in real life, it can get really annoying to read paragraphs of negotiation and check-ins that break the illusion of the scene and so on, and the opposite can be jarring too.
it's very possible to blur these together the same way Phantom of the Opera blurs its diegetic and non-diegetic music as well. this leaves you even more open to being misunderstood by people reading in bad faith, but it can also be really fun to play with. @not-poignant writes fantastic fanfic, novels, and original serials on ao3 that pull this off really well, if you're okay with some dark shit in your fiction I would highly recommend their work. some of it does get really fucking dark in places though, just like. be advised. read the tags and all that.
but yeah, spontaneous writer plug aside, that's what I mean.
Queer culture includes erotic content!
