When i was a teachers assistant(first grade), i would add extra points for doodles and drawings when i was grading papers. Obviously, these points didnt go in the grade book. I called them Miss Rachel points. But the kids loved it and started doing more complex drawings on the back of their homework to get more points. I had a parent tell me that her daughter got excited to finish her homework so she could do a new drawing for me, so teachers, of literally any grade, give the drawings some acknowledgment. Its a creative outlet that may motivate your students to do their homework but more importantly, it could be someone's escape and you just writing "nice panda" next to their drawing will make them feel so special.

I went to a conservative school in a conservative district in a conservative County. We had an on-campus Christian club that prayed at the flag pole every morning. In my senior year at the end-of-year outdoor dance a bunch of the black football players started basically bouncing to the music, standing close together, shouting in enthusiasm (b/c they were graduating) and the assistant principal nearly had a panic attack, feared they would overrun the DJ, and forced him to switch to a slow song abruptly in the middle of his current set (to everyone’s confusion).

THAT school had us reading half the books on this banned book list (this was 2005-2009). That should tell you all you need to know about the current state of affairs in America.
