I can’t stop thinking about the uhc shooter and what a wild experience he must be having right now. Idk how much you can look at the news or scroll the internet while on the run for murder, but man. Imagine. You spend who knows how long planning a brazen public assassination, cleanly pop a dude in the middle of one of the busiest downtowns in the world, bike away fueled by nothing but the thrill of vengeance and some Starbucks, and spark one of the largest manhunts in recent history. And when you finally go online to see what you’ve wrought, the entire world is laugh reacting NYT headlines and has collectively decided that you’re off the hook this time, king.
Then pictures of your face get released 24 hours later and everyone is like actually this guy did nothing wrong AND he’s hot.
As a policy, I refuse to idolize or mythologize real people.
For all we know, the shooter could be a narcissist delighting in all this attention. Or a psychopath. Or an abuser. Or a pedophile. Or just kind of an asshole.
Or maybe they're a great guy who does volunteer work, proactively participates in their community, and is beloved by all their friends and family.
But the truth is that who this person is doesn't actually matter anymore. This person is, before any of that, an icon.
They're the first in a long time to cut down one of the most quietly hated figures in the country, and that hate has grown loud in a hurry. This icon is so strong and universal that the usual culture war bullshit that the oligarchs use in their class war doesn't work because too many people regardless of political leaning are happy it happened.
After one of if not the most divisive and controversial presidents in American history got elected, this fella managed to become a rallying point that gets everyone to agree on something, and that is powerful beyond words.
It's a phenomenon born of hopelessness, standing on the backs of hundreds of thousands of victims giving people hope that something good will come of it. And the ruling elite should be scared out of their minds because this form of desperate hope is no longer peaceful or reasonable.
I think the assassin that took out the United Healthcare CEO single handedly reunited the States because there are people on tiktok with literal N*zi pfps/trump pfps/maga pfps agreeing with everything I say about knocking off the rich instead of fighting with each other. I see them interacting with ppl with Palestine pfps, trans/lgbt pfps and getting along with each other rather than starting discourse. It's like we've found something that we can actually agree on for the first time. I haven't seen the United States THIS united in my lifetime.

is it fucking weird to anyone else to think that deer are like, everywhere
like, i tend to think of them as a north american animal, but
I like how they just avoid Mongolia
Mongolia has an anti-deer forcefield.

Hey! Albertan here. I thought rats were fictional until I was 9 years old. I have still never seen a rat in person.

In the UK, we have a saying: "I'm all right, Jack." According to Wikipedia:
"I'm all right, Jack" is a British expression used to describe people who act only in their own best interests, even if providing assistance to others would take minimal to no effort on their part. It carries a negative connotation, and is rarely used to describe the person saying it.
The phrase is believed to have originated among Royal Navy sailors; when a ladder was slung over the side of a ship, the last sailor to climb on board would say, "I'm all right Jack; pull up the ladder." The latter half of the phrase, typically used as "pulling up the ladder behind oneself", has been used to call out unfairness and hypocrisy on the part of those who are seen to have benefited from opportunities handed out to them, only to deny such opportunities to others.
Funny how I only ever think about it when there are elections going on...
God I wish they didn’t miss that shot a few months ago right now.
