a/n: first fic of this series yayayayyay!! this is probably one of my favorite disney love songs oat <3 i picked this song for shoyo bc i feel like he'd 100% be the type of person who'd just be able to have fun with anyone, experience tons of new things alongside, and just live through so many really unique experiences with.

growing up rich wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. every time you said it, you sounded spoiled. so you did your best not to say it all that much. however, it didn't change how you felt.
you never got the chance to play with toys, go to amusement parks, or try fun foods. instead, you spent your time being media trained, learning about politics, and meeting other rich, emotionally unavailable adults that reminded you all too much like the parents you only ever saw a couple times a year.
so when you met hinata shoyo for the first time, you were... shocked. most celebrities, especially professional athletes, were either socially awkward, entitled and snobby, or simply carried nothing more than their fame and athleticism. shoyo was none of those things.
you'd met him after one of the msby black jackals games, and though you didn't know (or particularly care) much about volleyball, something about the sheer joy in his expression as he played struck you. there was almost always a grin on his face, and it wasn't a fake grin either. it was the grin that came from doing something you truly, fully loved.
despite that, you really did try to maintain a professional distance when you met him afterwards. but damn it, his warmth and friendliness were contagious. he seemed to know who you were, the daughter of an important political figure, but that didn't change the way he treated you.
"hello! i'm hinata shoyo! it's a pleasure to meet you, miss!" he eagerly greeted you, bright brown eyes shining and his fluffy orange hair slightly mussed from the match he'd just played. his hand was stretched out as he awaited a handshake from you. and that smile of his? good lord.
fast forward a couple months later and just a few weeks into your relationship, and shoyo was currently climbing up to your window, like some lead in a romance novel. you were just about to go to sleep, when you heard the soft taps on your window.
what the heck was he doing here? it was 11:13pm, for goodness' sake. but of course, it would be cruel to leave your boyfriend out in the middle of the night, so you got up and opened the window to help him in.
"...you do know there's a front door, right?"
"yup!" he confirmed happily, glancing around the room before looking at you again. "but this is more fun. we're gonna go out that way too, by the way."
"we're going to what now?"
"sneak out through the window! what, you've never done that before?"
no. no, you hadn't. because your house had been literally guarded by bodyguards all throughout your childhood. and thus, this entire concept of sneaking out was entirely foreign to you. but for some reason, you were so intrigued by it.
so indeed, in moments, you were climbing out of your window, your hoodie and pajama pants the only things shielding you from the cold air. once you finally reached the ground, you found shoyo and... a bike?
"i hope you don't mind sharing a bike with me. just hop on the back seat and hold on tight, alright? i can do most of the pedaling, but you still can help me out a bit," he explained, hopping onto the 2 seater bike and glancing back at you. "o-oh, thanks. i've never ridden a bike before, actually."
now that caught his attention. "no way, seriously?" you'd told shoyo bits and pieces of your childhood, but despite that, he clearly didn't realize just how little you'd gotten to experience. however, rather than responding with the usual pity or awkward silence that most people gave after finding out, he simply looked back at you and grinned. "time to change that, then!"
so you got onto his bike, gripping onto your handlebars as tightly as you could. "alright, you just put your feet here - mhmm - and there. and pedal nice and easy. no need to go too fast, by the way! i'll match your tempo, so don't worry about anything."
and indeed, the two of you went rather slowly. but it was... nice. your neighborhood roads were softly illuminated by the streetlights and lamp posts, and the starry evening sky reminded you that no matter how late in the night, the sky was never fully dark. the cool wind hit your face and blew your hair all over the place, causing it to certainly be messed up, but you couldn't care.
shoyo had gone quiet, but you knew he had a smile on his face. "...biking's quite fun, huh? i'd bike to both my junior high and high school every day, and even now, i still love biking whenever i can," he told you softly. "but it's always more fun when there's someone with you too."
soon enough, you were at... the beach? "sho, what are we doing here?" he slowed down his pedaling, chuckling softly. "watching the stars from the beach! we won't go too far onto the sand, but this beach is always so busy during the day, so i love visiting at night."
he helped you off the bike, parked it, and gently took your hand as the two of you found a small bench on the sand. it was a little dark, but the light from the stars and moon was enough to see shoyo's face clearly. the crashing of waves against the shore was a comforting rhythm, just like the steady thump of shoyo's heart, loud and clear as your rested your head on his shoulder.
you stayed like that for a moment. a beautiful, precious, quiet moment. one that no amount of money or riches could ever be worth. then, of course, shoyo sat up suddenly. "oh yeah! i brought something for you! give me second..." he mumbled, reaching into the pocket of his hoodie and pulling out a handful of ramune candy. "here you go! ramune candy!"
now this you'd tried. not much, unfortunately, but you loved it. your eyes lit up immediately. "thank you so much, sho!" but just before you popped it onto your tongue, shoyo grabbed your wrist, confusion written over his face.
"you're not gonna blow into it first?"
"it's the coris type! you can whistle into it!" to demonstrate, he placed the candy between his lips and blew, a soft whistle cutting through the air as a result. "see?"
you hesitated before trying, the same whistle now coming from your lips. "oh! that's... actually really fun," you admitted, trying it once more. "now can i eat it?"
shoyo laughed, nodding, and popping his into his mouth as well.
you felt like a kid. in the best way possible. because you'd never gotten to experience any of this - sneaking out, riding bikes, going to the beach at night, playing with candy - and for the longest time, you'd lost all hope that you ever would get to experience it.
but then shoyo came into your life and changed everything. he'd reminded you what it meant to live, to have fun, to let yourself relax and be a child again. he'd shown you a whole new world, and now, there was no way you could go back to where you used to be.
