vigoranimalis:
“Might it be so that it is the Force calling out to you in that place?” He asked, his smile gentle and understanding but there was a deeper shade to it too, a sadness, a longing in his eyes as M'asa spoke of feeling ‘home’ here. Yvel’s home was long gone too and though some ruins did call to him as well, he hadn’t been able to find a place that would make him feel truly at home.
“You’re sensitive to it too, aren’t you?” He asked, voiced lowered a bit by habit, even though the danger nowadays wasn’t what it had been under the Empire. Still, there were many out there still who didn’t wish them well.
“Sensitive?”
There was a moment of pause, the Cathar’s brow furrowing slightly in concern. It...really wasn’t something he spoke of openly. He was honestly surprised that this male would.
“...I blinded myself to the Force nearly a decade ago, friend,” he said quietly, bowing his head. “It was a wound I could no longer bear to carry. I would...rather not discuss it. I’m sorry.”
vigoranimalis:
“Thugs in stolen armor.” He summed up, nodding in agreement with the other. The offer M’asa made was a surprise, and it showed on Yvel’s features for a moment, but then his expression warmed up again.
“That’s very generous of you. I would appreciate such help.” He admitted honestly. “And of course, in return, I will gladly help you with your excavations in the ruins of the Enclave. Perhaps together we’ll be able to find what scavengers have missed.”
M’asa smiled, the expression somewhat apologetic. “We will see, friend. I’m...a bit protective of the Enclave. Of the caves. Ah...”
Head bowing, just a little, M’asa rubbed at the back of his neck awkwardly. It was always difficult to explain, without divulging too much of himself. Of his past...who he was. What he used to be...
“I’ve never really felt like I was “home”, no matter where I was or how many people were around me. Even though all that is left are ruins...I feel at home. So...I haven’t been letting anyone near it since I arrived on Dantooine. Is that selfish of me?”
vigoranimalis:
“Would they be bold - and unhinged - enough to try and blow up my ship rather than just rob it?” He asked, a line appearing between his brows as he frowned, not having considered this possibility before. The companions he travelled with were a sufficient protection against robbers… but not the worst sort of sentience who’d make things explode just for the thrill of watching a fire.
“It seems then we both have a certain fondness for relics.” He smiled again at the cathar’s words.
“I wouldn’t put it passed them. Some claim to be Mandalorians, but it’s far more likely they stole Mandalore armor. They lack any real tactics, no organization, zero honor in combat from what I’ve observed. Brutes. The Mandalorians were better than that. This lot gets bored easily. I’m simply fortunate enough to not be noticed often.”
Raising his head to sniff at the breeze, M’asa furrowed his brow in thought. “Campfires upwind of us, likely over that hill over there. I wouldn’t park your ship too far from a large settlement, if you wish to keep it in one piece. Easier to move about on foot anyway, or at most a speeder bike, if you’re up to it. They have trackers with them, at least with the larger groups...I can show you around the area, scout out kath hound packs...I’ve been dodging them long enough, and you seem like you could use someone familiar with the area...”
vigoranimalis:
“That would fit what I’ve heard too.” He nodded. “It is a rare subspecies of the kath hound that I’ll be looking for.”
“Ah, neither. I use my ship so much it’s become something of a home. I’m refuelling here but then I am flying to the edge of the plains and I’ll be scouting from there.” He explained.
“And what about you? What brings a handsome cathar to Dantooine?”
“I’d be wary then. Some First Order stragglers have yet to leave the system, and the mercenary hunters apparently get bored out on the plains. Bit of blaster fire has singed my fur more than once just passing by the outskirts on my speeder...”
His ears perked at the last question, however; there was no need to really lie. “Me? I’m something of a historian, I suppose. I find more comfort in the temple ruins and the remnants of the kyber caves than anywhere else...though don’t let it get around that I’ve been to the caves, at least. The Empire caved them all in decades ago, it took months just to excavate my way into one, and that was just the rear chamber...”
vigoranimalis:
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, M’asa.”
The mention of the Enclave had him smiling a little, in a sad sort of way even as he nodded along the other’s words.
“No, it’s not the Enclave. I am…” a relict of a bygone era, now. “A fauna specialist. I do my best to preserve endangered species across the galaxy, to reintroduce them to their original habitat, when possible, or to find them new homes. I also breed and sell working animals, as well as treat them when needed.” He explained. “I’ve heard a rare creature have been sighted in the Wukhalu Plains so I’ve come to investigate.”
“The kath hounds and graul have been completely overrunning the Wukhalu area for months. If what you’re looking for can’t outrun them, outfight them, or hide from them...well, I don’t fancy your chances. Even the locals have been keeping their distance, hiring mercenaries to thin out the packs.”
M’asa shifted the pack slung on his shoulder, glancing around them when a breeze wafted through the tall grass. “Where are you staying? Khoonda? New Garang? With all the trouble Dantooine has seen over the past 3,000 years, well..I doubt the locals have been very....welcoming~”

His aim wasn’t to flirt but then again, the Cathar was very pleasant on the eyes. He smiled, extending his hand to the other.
“Yvel Djen.” He introduced himself.
The Cathar arched a brow, golden eyes glancing down at the man’s hand before taking it firmly. “M’asa. What brings you to Dantooine? Can’t be the Enclave, scavengers from all over the galaxy have been picking it clean for centuries...”
His tail flicked anxiously as he pulled his hand away once again. “Not that it stops anyone from trying. Even had a few groups try to rebuild the parts of the temple that are still standing, but they never seem to stay long...”
"Look, I know Cathar don't normally have them, but do you have to keep staring at my tail?" - simulacraviro (pfft hi)
@simulacraviro
“I do apologize if my curiosity has offended you.” He offered genuinely with a respectful bow of his head. “I meant no ill nor offence. Your tail is beautiful and suits you very much, young friend.” The compliment was genuine as well.
“I’d say you were making me blush, but you wouldn’t be able to tell regardless~” M’asa just chuckled, tail swaying slowly. “If it will assuage your curiosity, I am half Farghul. Though my Cathar family would sooner say that I am a fascinating anomaly rather than admit to my father being Farghul...Hm. Might I at least have the name of the one that has been staring at my rear~?”
Reblog this if you can do angst.
Been up far too long editing the default Cathar from SwtOR into a Cathar/Farghul hybrid for my OC side-blog ;; and yes, I’m using the female model for a male OC again because I don’t like the male faces =A= this is just until I manage to draw him the way he is in my head.
M’asa is almost ready for the public. Just gotta finish two more edits and his background story on his google doc since he’ll be dash-only for a bit.
