There is, what I would call, a trope surrounding Bruce, in canon and in fanon, that gets on my nerves. It's the idea that his romantic relationships fail because he prioritizes Gotham and his mission over his romantic partner, and the fact that they, often, lament on how they will never be nĀ°1 in his eyes.
First of, this is a father, so yes, you will never be nĀ°1 as a parent should prioritize their children, who depend on them for survival and have a special connection to the person that raise them. It's the nuclear family concept that believes your romantic partner should be the priority over your children, because your children are not "forever", they are supposed to leave once they are adults and not get support from you again. Anyway, most of the time Bruce, at least, as one minor child, so even if you want to go the root of "once they are adults, children aren't their parents' priority anymore", it still is not acceptable to me to ask a man to prioritize you over his minor children.
Secondly, because I think it's selfish and kind of abusive. There is a difference between a partner who is obsessed with something, and so, do not value your relationship and you, and a partner who has a goal or passion in life, and you expects them to give up on it for you. Bruce "prioritizes" Gotham (because I do not like the phrasing used ever) because it matters to him greatly to help others, that the children and people of Gotham do not suffer. And yet, here we are, shaming him for caring about this more than his romantic partner. Also, often, it's not that he cares too much and they want him to calm down, because the reality is that Bruce will prioritize his loved ones over Gotham (him ruining to save Tim's parents when they are kidnapped even tho I'm sure Gotham could have used its vigilante, him staying in to talk with his lawyer about how to get Jason back when he is taken from him instead of going out as Batman, him prioritizing saving Dick's life over saving the world in Forever Evil and letting Lex Luthor save the day knowing the man will use it for his evil deeds, Alfred having to fight him so he saves Gotham before running to save Talia from the Joker in the Arkham City game...), it's simply that he cares and that's what is wrong. They want him to stop being Batman, or working so hard for his city, and they take his refusal to do so as him not loving them "enough".
I just don't like the idea in general that you are supposed to give yourself fully to your romantic partner, to become nothing than their second half, and abandon who you are. And it's how he sounds to me when they say that about Bruce or to Bruce. "Bouhou, your city matters more than me" so sad, he values doing what's right and helping others more than having a relationship with you. Bouhou, he has a big ass heart and you cannot stand to share.
Also, it's part of the "Batman bad" "propaganda" where they try to tell us that Bruce being Batman is bad, and he should stop. Him being a good person, loving and caring so much about others, is bad. And like, no.
