Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.

It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.

It's rude.

Trying to attend anything in public just has me butting against the fact that being tma sucks. Yeah, that hema thing looks cool, how do they feel about trans women? I know you give people grief about freaking out over Gen Alpha, but speaking as a teacher, a lot of my gen alpha students can't actually read. Their literacy is terrible for their grade.

Here's the problem with that: When teachers like you make videos about how your students can't read, you're making videos about YOUR incompetence.

Your students can't read because for the last 20 years you stopped teaching children phonics. You started teaching them to read by guessing the next word based on context clues in the story. And that has been your curriculum for decades.

It is an awful way to teach children to read, it has been debunked more often than anti vaccine rhetoric, and any teacher still teaching that way is a fucking moron.

Don't tell me you aren't, because you ARE, and this is the ONLY reason American children struggle with literacy.

Phonics are the bedrock of literacy. It is required for everything else. Trying to teach literacy without phonics is like trying to teach someone to play the piano without using their fingers. It's like trying to learn to run before you can crawl.

High school teacher here and can confirm, helping students sound out a word does wonders with making new terms stick and hepps the flow of their speech when reading a lot. Phonics is SUPER important.

Yesterday I discovered someone from work was scammed right after they found out their symptoms were from a brain tumor and they needed emergency brain surgery. It’s already here! We already live in this dystopia!
