I know that people often characterize Obi-Wan as a Stewjoni name which is great! It's just that, personally, I've more inclined to think it is as a name given to him by the Jedi. I just don't think that it's a coincidence that two of the most prominent Jedi whom we see are named 'Qui-Gon Jinn' and 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'.

These are two characters who've had somewhat murky beginnings within both canon and legends. I think it's very notable that Obi-Wan was only given a home planet in 2010 (over 33 years later from when he was first introduced) and Qui-Gon was only given the home world of Coruscant in 2022!

There are very few main other characters like this. Luke Skywalker is from Tatooine, Leia Organa is from Aldeeran, and Han Solo is from Corellia. (This was established in 1976 in the novelization of a New Hope!)

Anakin Skywalker is from Tatooine, Padme Amidala is from Naboo. Both of these places featured predominantly in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.

Why? Because to understand Anakin Skywalker and to understand Padme Amidala, you have to understand where they came from. You do not need to visit Stewjon to understand Obi-Wan Kenobi. You just need to see the Jedi Temple and meet other Jedi. You do not need to all of Corcuscant to understand Qui-Gon Jinn. You just need to see the Jedi Temple and meet other Jedi.

Culturally, they are Jedi. They are Jedi at the beginning, the middle, and the end of their lives. What if that were the origins of their names? What if Obi-Wan Kenobi means 'Child of the Light' or 'Beloved'? What if Qui-Gon Jinn means 'Protector' or 'Balanced'?

I just think that it would be neat to see it more.

#obi-wan kenobi is the first jedi name we hear and then qui-gon is supposed to be the obi-wan's obi-wan a mentor and a pre-empire jedi#thats why their names are so similar#their names being given by the jedi actully sounds so good#and tragic#because after the order 66 obi-wan has to hide his name#not only because that's HIS name but a name given by his people#the people who were also taken away from him#obi wan kenobi#qui gon jinn#jedi (tags via @purple-ant) YES! Absolutely! Obi-Wan hiding his name not only because he was once a very famous Jedi and General (whose name is being ACTIVELY ERASED FROM THE RECORDS! BTW!) but because the name itself is now outlawed.

if we can set aside attachment discourse for a moment (please) i think the jedi marriage prohibition makes sense in a “please don’t enter a complex legal, financial, social, and in some cases religious contract, the specifics of which vary wildly depending on planet and culture” way. the single jedi with a law degree does not have time to draft everyone’s prenups to prevent the whole order from getting sued

weird anecdote? we had assemblies every week in primary school that were like mini half an hour plays/comedy sketch shows written and performed by different classes in the school and one of them entirely spoiled the plot of star wars for me

i don’t remember the whole sketch but it was supposed to be group therapy for vader, leia and luke, and at one point luke flings presumably his own severed arm at vader when vader asks for forgiveness from his children.

also leia says she’ll forgive him if he takes them to mcdonald’s and they cut to a musical number. genuinely that’s all i remember.

star wars would benefit if palpatine were a woman tbh. her claiming her place as anakin's new mother figure after he lost his actual mother. her being a distorted reflection of padmé who, in anakin's opinion, understands and accepts him just like his wife does, if not better. her being the first female sith in the series. her pretending to be a helpless elderly lady while being the mastermind behind everything. her slaying the best jedi masters and nearly killing yoda himself. her becoming a tyrannical empress as an opposite of a pacifistic naboo queen that padmé also was.

I am so deeply fascinated by those illustrations of Coruscant having harbors. Like, water harbors. Piers. You can go to the docks in the underlevels and stare out over an ocean locked inside a man-made cavern. Isn't that so crazy. Like there would be deep sea creatures close to the surface at all times because natural light is sparse. You can get street food and sit in the climate-control breeze in neon lighting while looking at fish that are just as neon bright. Terrifying. But you can't deny the vibes

God I’m such a nerd but I would LOVE to see standard classes and such at the Jedi Temple at some point. Like, we’ve seen their martial arts stuff (which I also love, and it’d be great for that to be expanded on outside combat), but I kinda just want to see the standard school stuff with Jedi and Force context sprinkled on.

How does endosymbiotic theory incorporate the midichlorians? What are Padawans and Initiates taught about in a standard anatomy class when there are dozens of different species in that class? How is the absolutely massive, entirely digitized Jedi Archive maintained, and what kind of technical support does it require? We know that the temple has some kind of theater department going on from Mace Windu’s backstory as a Rodian theater nerd—what kind of plays do they put on, and are any Jedi originals? How many languages are in regular use at the Temple? Ashowka establishes that the Jedi have some kind of ancient oral tradition that references other galaxies; how long have these stories been in circulation?

Just. So many interesting things to explore with the Jedi! Can we please get more with them than Order 66 From A Different Angle sometime soon?
