"oh, I live in a desert and-"
"wow that must be so terrible" "deserts are so ugly" "I would never want to live in a wasteland like that" "it's just empty nothingness"

this post and all its wonderful additions (look in the notes) is circulating again. these photos and many of the ones added in the notes come from the US Southwest.
right now the trump administration is attacking the public lands in the Southwestern US. most recently (July 2026), in Utah the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments have been cut by over 90% to allow for mining. these lands are sacred to multiple Native nations in the area and contain irreplaceable archeological sites. additionally, the commission of Native representatives who aided in management of these lands has been dissolved leaving Native people without a voice in caring for the remaining land. (read more here)
here in New Mexico, the 10 mile buffer zone surrounding Chaco Canyon preventing oil and gas drilling is under attack. Chaco Canyon contains incredibly old and incredibly fragile archeological sites sacred to Pueblo people. these sites are threatened by mining and drilling. (read more here)
The attack on the Chaco buffer zone is currently in a public comment period open until July 29. PLEASE leave a public comment to save these irreplaceable places.

btw I’ve found these stretches from the WAK blog very helpful when knitting a lot:
Plus make sure to take breaks regularly - and stop if anything starts to hurt!
especially with gift knitting I know it can be tempting to push through it for a deadline, but it’s really not worth causing long term injury. (And anyone knit-worthy should be understanding of that, imho.) Stay well :)
Also good for artists drawing with pencils/on a tablet/with a pen!
Also good for writers
And crocheters (that word looks wrong)
Say hookers coward

Find a humanitarian organization near you and volunteer with them. Do it. I mean it. Even like one day a week. Even an HOUR a week. This shit will change you in the best ways. Your circle will fill with cool people. THE HELPERS-- FIND THEM and then BE THEM
Being in close contact with people who give a shit and are also witnessing the descent of our country into fascism and ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT is actually mad refreshing in contrast to the pointless noise that is the internet.
You'll make such fast friends if you:
show up
say "where do you need me"
do what they say
have a good attitude
Done. Easy. Volunteering is awesome and will put you right in the lap of the best people in your area. They're the helpers, they're the people Mr. Rogers told you about!
Doing an easy task like potting trees for a community garden or helping at a food bank will also connect you to people who are doing more, like immigrant support or things that tackle more urgent, dangerous issues going on. So you can scale up your involvement easily by just showing up repeatedly.
Or don't scale it up-- maybe you stop at helping at the food bank and you're stacking cans for a few hours. You're feeding your neighbors. That's a load-bearing part of any revolution. (I use that word optimistically.) The people you meet will be the people you lean on when shit gets worse.
AND VICE VERSA, prove that you are someone to lean ON by showing up and helping. Offer things to people. Your skills may be helpful. Already, just because we've done local volunteering, we have made at least 5 or 6 new friends, got a potential firewood connection, and WELL-PAID EMPLOYMENT (??? OMG)
(and free lunches and snacks and fruit trees) And it's healing as fuck to have people genuinely tell you, in the flesh, to your face, "I'm so glad you showed up today. I appreciate you so much. This would have been harder without you." That shit makes you feel AWESOME and REAL and PURPOSEFUL
(We woke up early for a shift at the food bank, I'm hyping myself up because I am not a morning person LMAO) But yeah volunteering is such a good way to build security and community. There's something for everyone to help with, just get out there and show up, first.
Started volunteering 3 hours a week at a queer community center and it has helped boost my morale so much. There’s something magical about needing a safe space and then becoming apart of that safe space. Helping others really does help/heal you.
I started volunteering and unlocked a new career, friends, and skill set. Showing up to help out regularly will radically alter your faith and optimism in humanity, and that isn't hyperbole. Great advice.
We don't talk about Land Before Time enough. That movie has everything good and nothing bad. Dinosaurs. Childhood grief (that hits you SO hard every time.) Food that's animated very apatizingly although it's literally just a leaf. Really cool underwater intro. Adorable babies. No romantic side plot. The girl characters don't have bigger eyelashes or bows -they're not even pink. They're all just kids getting through shit together! And they act like it! A perfect credits song. Memorable voice acting. Dinosaurs. It. Is. Peak.

[ID: digital art depicting a family of four sinosauropteryx nexting inside a crater in a fallen tree. there are bushes and leaves in the foreground. flowering vines trail over the log. the largest sinosauropteryx is bending down to nuzzle a smaller one. some even smaller babies are resting beside them. in the background there are mountain peaks, a pterosaur in the sky, and other flying creatures.

A sinosauropteryx I sewed in September 2024, just in time to bring her with me to Tetzoocon.
I'd been so tempted to keep one of the ones I made for my shop, but resisting the temptation meant I got to make myself a special one! I really enjoy the gradient I managed with her tail stripes.
decided to get a new sketchbook and start dipping my toes more into traditional art
Made some sinosauropteryx plushies again, this time with pastel colours! Plus some of the wee rainbow babies I've made before.
Both available in my shop!

Bit of rambling:
They now have names! Huge thank you to @judas-iscaryot for helping me come up with them :3
Tapik: Tapyke -> Slashik
Jellybugs: Jellar -> Jelluna
Sunseekers: Flakeit -> Gullacier
Firebacks: Babasalt -> Pyroclawstic -> Tectitan
I have made. Even more dinos
The Nimbosaur (now in sunrise version)
You're just a mammal. Let yourself act like it. Your brain needs enrichment. Your body needs rest. You feel hunger and grow hair. You need to pack bond with other sentient things so you don't become unsocialized and neurotic. You are biologically inclined to seek dopamine and become sick when chronically stressed. Outrage about hedonism is made up to place moral value on taking pleasure in sensory experiences. I am telling you that if you don't let yourself be a fucking mammal, as you were made, you will suffer and go insane. No grindset no diets no trying to be above your drive for connection. Pursue what makes you feel good and practice radical rejection of the constructs meant to turn you into a machine. You're a mammal.
i hope you dont mind, i was posessed by these words until i drew this little zine and i just thought id put it here
a ton of people have unexpectedly followed me over the last 2 days so here is my rent-lowering gunshot:
the american south is the most racially diverse and poorest region of the united states, and any political sentiment that treats the south is stupid or expendable is inherently racist and classist. a lot of y'all are racist and classist. the south is also the heart of american culture. argue with a wall. you cannot deny that everybody in the entire world does not emulate artists from atlanta. there is vested interest in keeping the south poor and uneducated BECAUSE this is the most racially diverse region in this country. if you actually give a fuck about progress, you would fight for the south, not mock us.
