Is it really that crazy to believe that future Cheng Xiaoshi is intervening in the current timeline?

There’s just something that’s been bugging me since season one about his attitude toward Lu Guang. In their first encounter, there already seems to be too much familiarity (the whole partner conversation?) Sure, that could be chalked up to them meeting as kids, but then, why is his promise to Lu Guang to meet again so important? And why does Lu Guang sound so… relieved? Why is that childhood interaction still so significant, even several years later?

There’s also this scene in Yingdu where Lu Guang admits he didn’t use some cheap divination trick. He then asks Cheng Xiaoshi why he isn’t curious about how he did it, and Cheng Xiaoshi just responds way too calmly. He says something like: “Oh yeah, I assumed you’d tell me someday when you’re ready.” That’s not his usual impulsive self, it’s a more mature version of him. Even Lu Guang is caught off guard by the response.

After all, Cheng Xiaoshi is the one with the actual time-traveling powers, the “original one”. So it doesn’t seem that far-fetched to think he might be doing some timeline tampering of his own. Who knows, maybe this dork ends up being the mastermind from some far-off future lmao.
