Ian leaning his head on Mickey's shoulder even though he's too tall and sometimes it's not quite comfortable. Mickey complains but doesn't stir to move him away. When they're sitting on the couch, that's when Ian does it the most because then he can just hold onto him and his neck doesn't hurt as much. He wouldn't care if it did.
it's another way of being close to Mickey and finding the softness of his presence on those nights when his eyes close while they watch a movie, on nighttime walks to buy food, and in the easy laughter when they're at the house smoking
i feel like mickey just didnt rly let on abt how much education hes gotten. he's not completely uneducated just bc he dropped out in 4th grade
they make you do school everyday in juvie and take all the standard classes (which would include a language at least in my state) and you can take classes in prison like GED test prep, languages and vocational training for free. juvenile detention centers are also required to screen children for dyslexia and other learning disabilities and reading/language problems and offer special education in their educational programs.
and he spent years in and out of institutions that would have all been disproportionately full of hispanic inmates, as prisons are all over the country but especially in Illinois and Texas.
so i do think he probably knew at least some Spanish from a combo of school and his peers before he tried learning more of it with Mexico in mind. and i think he was definitely playing down how much he knows when he told ian he only knew that one weirdly specific sentence
hi mickey and ian have their own sides and while YES they flip-flopped a bit in s4/5 bed scenes, in the more recent seasons they stick to these sides more consistently, and this is how they started. also, these are the sides they’re on most of the time that they’re together, and I will plug my own gifset here to demonstrate.
