I was in the mood to draw some spooky art and have been on a Strangers Things kick, and so... Tada? Little Creepy Will Byers art, I guess
Today I’m thinking about how when I was a toddler I threw such intense and long screaming fits that my parents actually took me to some sort of specialist to see if something was wrong. Like autistic baby training/assessment. I was just about the only baby girl there and flew through all the little tasks they threw at me much faster then the others so they assumed I was fine and told me parents to let me cry it out.
As you can imagine, this did not go well. I threw terrible fits until I was in almost 2nd grade for the first thing. And now I have anxiety, trust issues, would rather loose an arm then ask for things/help. And it turned out I did in fact, have ADHD and Autism, it just took until I got older and got overloaded/experienced massive change that it became apparent. You can imagine all our shock when I went from a sort of odd but mostly functional girl to an emotionally unregulated trainwreck at the first major change in my life (switching schools in 7th grade).
I’d say “oh, the 90’s! What a time they were” if I thought that autism/nd assessment for small children had improved much in the last 20 years, but I don’t think it has. They still look for the same sort of things and if they don’t happen, tough. Your kid doesn’t talk despite showing the ability to? They scream bloody murder for 2+ straight hours? Well they play with toys mostly normal, so maybe come back when they are bigger to check how we are. And then when the kid starts speaking and you just don’t mind to screaming anymore cause you got used to it, you don’t follow up, even though if you did you’d see that kid has picked up more odd play and social behaviors. And so a kid remains undiagnosed until they hit their limit and crash out in middle/high school. Time is a flat circle. Hate it here.

I keep thinking about how insane November 6, 1987 was for Will Byers. On this the the 4th anniversary of the day his life ruined- or at least changed forever as his childhood met a brutal death- he:
Starts the day off being tortured in his mind by Vecna. Gets to wake up and have a break down about that. He comes out to everybody he knows closely and few he doesn’t, and one person he’s only just met. Returns to the place of his trauma for the first time ever. That evil pause Mike did. Experiences radical empathy for worst man in the world. Presumably writhes in pain a bunch off screen as they fight the mindflayer. Gets to see a bunch of little kids stuck to the wall and vined like he was. Watches his mother decapitate a man. Has his adoptive sister kill herself right in front of him.
I like to think he has himself a little breakdown, maybe in the hospital once the kids were all safe. A couple of days in psych ward, as threat. A little grippy sock vacation. Just for a little bit. Because what the fuck.
Digital coloring on npcs continues lol
I fully believe that Old Caleb Widogast goes "ohohohoho" when he's delighted by something. He seems like a delighted little noises kind of old guy
I like to imagine that old Caleb Widogast is a very stereotypical looking wizard with a long white beard and long white hair and glasses and he speaks in riddles and rhymes because he can
He acquires a pointy, starry hat somewhere down the adventuring line and it’s been part of his Level 20+ outfit ever since
Old Caleb Predictions, he’s just living his best life
So I’ve fallen into the Stranger Things hole fully since the finale season. I am so far finding the fanfic selection somewhat woeful. Like there’s lots. But I guess I just got sort of spoiled with some of my past fandoms, Voltron, BNHA, Avatar the Last Airbender, Critical Role, Supernatural, Bones, Criminal Minds. Like most of it was still Romance stuff based pretty tight on canon to a degree but there was still a variety of Gen fics available. Of fluff and humor. Of people really playing with the characters and concepts in fun aways without going too far out into AU waters. I was spoiled for content. And normally this would just compel me to write myself but I’m having a major motivation dry spell. I’m beset with ideas and no motivation. Major blockage.
Right now, I have a particular axe to grind with the lack of really juicy Will has Powers fics. Like, I’ve only been skimming for a couple days but man… like, there is lots of great stuff, but I’m having trouble finding fics to scratch a particular itch. Because, I’m pretty pissed that they didn’t really give Will powers, just the ability to borrow them from Vecna. Like that’s such a cop out and also reduces the amount he can do in the story/plot and keeps him a damsel. I really am itching for fics that really dig into the concept of Will having real actual powers, really getting into how powers work, getting weird/trippy/spooky with it. But I have to pick through so many S5V2 fix its to try to find anything and the pickings still seem so slim. I really should right some of my own but ideas I have are too massive for me to manage with my totally lack of drive this sucks
There’s something so upsetting about watching Occtis be treated as A Problem by everyone he meets. His family, Julien, the druids, and now even Thaisha
i know clowning on primus tachonis for his shitty recipe following is all we've been doing all week but god i still can't get over the fact that okay, you figured out the modified ritual would only work on an alive tachonis without innate sorcery, meaning there was ONLY ONE CANDIDATE IN THE UNIVERSE this could have worked on, and THIS is the time you chose to go fuck it we're doing it live???
i swear, "something's wrong with the boy - primus, you fool, what have you done??" gets funnier every week. yeah, primus, what have you done, with this once in a lifetime opportunity? well first off you failed to keep track of the kid, because you told him to his face you didn't care what he did with his life as long as you didn't have to hear about it. second, you didn't actually test that the ritual could be done from a distance, you just assumed, which even if you were right, is extremely poor scientific practice to suddenly add in other variables when experimenting on your, and i cannot stress this enough, only viable subject! you also threw in the complete demolishing of two other noble houses at the same time, because you were planning to destroy them anyway, no harm in splitting our forces because surely the experiment will work out and then it won't be a problem!
i know you were under some amount of time pressure but given that your house hasn't imploded yet in the week since you failed the ritual that's time enough to check your working
the ritual calls for replacing the subject's living heart with one carved from celestial bones and you just shoved the stone of nightsong in there wholesale. primus that's not a heart that's a fucking bird
I mean, as we understand it, the rituals total failure is 100% on Primus for being a shitty dad. The whole reason Occtis was in a position to force a failure by sundering his soul is because Primus was such a douche canoe that Occtis bounced and came under the influence of a Druid of the Old Path. Literally, if he hadn’t been a dick to him his whole life, the ritual would have worked. Whether or not it would have done what he wanted is something else entirely but it would have worked. When the ritual started to fail, grand pappy Tachonis probably assumed it was because something else had hold on Occtis’ soul because that’s what the issue was all the other times. “Primus, you fool, what have you done?” Is a perfect response to him presumably losing control of his son’s soul.
I feel like I keep seeing posts about occtis being babied after ep18 and maybe im just missing it or misinterpreting people's posts, but I legit haven't seen people say thaisha isn't also allowed to be upset and mad?
like, let me be clear. I'm yapping about occtis' pov on here cause it's currently the most interesting for my brain to unpack but that doesn't mean I think he's the only one "in the right" in this conversation. What makes this conflict so interesting is that none of them are really wrong, they just need time to process and to all actually talk it through without the stress of their adventuring/battle.
(I also have a lot of thoughts about how we're viewing occtis age wise but that got too long and is now gonna be another post lol)
thaisha is allowed (and very validly so) to be panicked and mad and upset, and yes traveling with an undead party member when the big bad people are literally the "raising and controlling undead people" allows for a LOT of concern! Especially when it's clear said undead party member was originally meant to very much be under their control, and definitely also needs to be deprogrammed a bit about some stuff he learned while growing up with these fucked up people (like no occtis traveling cages are not normal). Also where the fuck is Alogar? Is he alive? Is he okay? And on top of that there's all the complicated feelings with thaisha telling occtis to walk off the path, kind of betraying her own circle in a way (even if it's what saved occtis from being an undead-celestial monstrosity), and also thjazi literally just died. So much has happened.
at the same time people can be happy occtis stood up for himself (even if it still ended in him fawning a bit, but progress) and is asking them to stop taking their hatred for his family out on him and viewing him with only mistrust.
this whole group has gone through so much shit within the past few days and I need them to actually have time to process it instead of taking it out on each other (but on a meta level I love the drama that is them arguing lmao)
I mean I think that my thing is that the things that they are concerned about with Occtis aren’t necessarily the things they are? Like, Occtis doesn’t a have a soul for them to own and control anymore. Thats a non-issue and it’s going to be annoying to watch pan out. Like, there are lots of things to be concerned about with him, but him being loyal to his family at all or having his soul snatched and controlled aren’t it. Now, with the whole Bringing Back A God thing that’s 100% I get that, be mad about that. They need to be worried about his undead nature and what it means, to sort of monitor what lessons he picks up trying to figure out what happened and why his family is doing this all. It’s natural to be cautious of a necromancer. Like the reasons he might be dangerous are largely not the ones they seem concerned with and that’s what annoys me. It also seems to be the thing annoying Occtis because while he’s said some wack stuff, he hasn’t actually DONE anything bad yet. Or at least nothing worse than everybody else. But, I can see where the thought process comes from, so it’s whatever, and the players are all doing a great job.
Ugh, so I am having issues with enjoying the newest episode- not because of anything done that was actually truly bad or wrong but because of personal stuff and also because I have a thing about conflict in media. Being that I can only fully enjoy it if it’s very Both Sides are Equally Right and Wrong, or One Side is Clearly Wrong and appropriately called on it. My brain has very little space in it for Characters are Wrong and Just Continue being Wrong. It bothers me, severely. And I bring this up because of the Occtis of it all.
Occtis who hasn’t even actually done anything fully massively wrong or out of pocket yet. I’m sure he will, and this point good on him because fuck all this noise he needs to get away from these people except maybe Vaelus. Like, quickly. Because the degree to which they can’t see past his heritage to his, you know, actions and words, spells danger to him in a way that he needs to get away from. Julien openly wants to wipe out his whole bloodline, which will likely eventually include him after he gets the others. And at this point He probably shouldn’t trust Thaisha to not eventually hand him over to the Druids if he drifts too far from what she wants of him. He needs to get away from them. They are not safe for him and now he knows why he got killed, he can go do something else now if he wants.
While I totally understand where Thaisha is coming from and why she’s moving like that, I’m not mad at her as a character or her player for that matter. It’s just, on a more meta level, the only thing she is really fully in the right about is the stuff about Occtis and trying to bring back a god, she’s 100% in the right there. But everything else- he was a Tachonis when they met. He was a necromancer when they met. She’s being really out of pocket. He doesn’t need to be constantly reminded that his family sucks or be treated like he might be in league with them, they literally killed him. He’s aware and also doesn’t like them because they fucking killed him. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to have complicated feelings about them, it’s common when one has family they don’t like. More over, just objectively speaking, Occtis is in no danger of getting soul claimed by his family or being a secret agent because he doesn’t have a fucking soul. We saw it get turned to bird spaghetti, it’s why the ritual fully failed. The ritual needs that soul, that light, to work, and he sundered his, it doesn’t exist. And I might be remembering wrong but I’m pretty sure T saw it, didn’t she? And if she didn’t, his lack of soul should be readily apparent by his undead status, right? No soul, no true resurrection. That is not a thing they need to be concerned with and that not being properly addressed makes me aggravated in a way that I feel in my teeth.
I am a lot more triggered by Occtis apologizing than I thought I’d be because fuck that. Fuck that, they deserved to get snapped at, they were being dicks. Like I might actually not be able to keep watching episodes with Occtis in them if the past few episodes are indicative of how he’ll be handled because I actually can’t watch a twenty something constantly apologize to people that are shitty to him when he calls them on it especially about stuff that’s not his fault or wasn’t even doing. It just reminds me so starkly of one of darkest times in my life. Like, it makes sense for the character and what’s all happening but it actually makes me feel ill thinking about too hard. I learned to stop apologizing when I didn’t do anything wrong (I’ve honestly overcorrected on that matter but that’s a whole other thing) and I kind of hope Occtis learns that too. Or that he at least shifts to group who is more… understanding? Or something? Idk. Because the character is my favorite but if it means being set so on edge in my lizard brain then idk…
At least some of the stuff with Occtis and co and their dynamics has been giving my brain the bad itch, tbh. Like something about the way they react to him, especially that whole ‘don’t yell at me’ bit really triggers something deep in my brain. I think it’s something to do with my autism and peoples general reactions to me as someone who is abnormal- idk. It makes my teeth hurt. Like, I understand the whys and that character conflict but ow. Bad itch. Teeth hurt.
okay sorry i'll get to the lore stuff again in a second but it just hit me that no, primus' siblings aren't the ones named by number (probably), and obviously we've known since alex's fireside chat that occtis' siblibgs aren't either, but you know who is? OCCTIS' COUSINS SIBLING CHAIN UNIVERE DOSET AND TERTIA THAT WE KNOW GO IN THAT ORDER.
It seems more likely that Tertia was Primus’s Sister, actually? Or they should be for the pattern to hold. Uni- and Dos- those are cardinal number prefixes, not Ordinal. If pattern holds, Trimus should be their third sibling (hence why Doset mentioned them in a note) and Tertia would be Primus’s sister, not 1, 2, 3, but First, Second, Third. I might been misunderstanding something tho
oh i'm not guessing here we were directly told tertia was univere and doset's sister
Ick, lame. Broken pattern makes guessing at names or theorizing about names we hear in the future an impossible crap shoot. Also, it’s less funny to name your kids one, two, third than one, two, three. That’s kind disappointing ngl
"this is the trained scorpion of your cousin tertia" is NOT what i expected brennan to say right then
Wait I can’t remember- did he say Tertia or just Your Cousin

Here's an absolute big swing guess for next week's episode, involving Tachonis' plans in Tanisar and why things went down the way they did at the Palazzo (with several other sub-guesses on new lore from episode 17).
My big swing is that Julien is intended by the Tachonis to become the vessel for/physical aspect of the Deva Vindicta, or that he's at least an option they're considering, and that one of the ways that he's being "prepared" to serve this purpose is by inducing a great desire for vengeance in him. I honestly don't think I can possibly be right, but I've got enough red string that I want to talk about it, because it's a fun idea.
We've never found out why the two primary targets of the attack on the Palazzo seemed to be 1) Occtis, who's been explained, and 2) Raimond Davinos for some reason? Maybe it's a simple as that he's a powerful warrior and they wanted him off the table quickly, but I have a hunch there's more to it. They were sort of vague about wanting to kill Aranessa, and Primus fully walked away from Julien. "Well struck, warrior," he said before leaving. Maybe killing Raimond and the house of Davinos in general will serve the magical purpose of pushing Julien into deep vindictiveness and desire for revenge, which will be necessary for the Deva.
Furthermore, we learned in this episode that the people who were sent to the Barrowdell by the twins were specifically Julien's battalion, specifically his students. Why was that choice made? Did they specifically request his battalion? Is it just because he was gone, or did the Tachonis choose his people to send, knowing it would fuel his desire for revenge and draw him after them to Tanisar, where maybe they need him to be for the ritual?
The Tachonis seem to need to do some sort of procedure on someone, in Tanisar, in connection with the creation of the Deva, and we have multiple references to an "apotheon." There's a "Chamber of the Apotheon Vindicta," guarded by the "Hall of the Demon Guardians," and a long bridge over a lake that goes to the "Apotheotic Obelisk." An apotheon is a mortal who is deified or otherwise elevated to godhood/adjacent - so I'm guessing from these words that the Tachonis need not only the sacrifice of Occtis, but a person to be exalted into this deva.
Quotes from the letters:
"Our most recent findings were from about two-and-a-half months ago. The final experiment was a failure, and wasted our last supplies of ossement."
"A new source of calcidian (?) has revealed itself, but we need to move quickly. The Cloak is moving faster than anticipated. If the obelisk holds fast in Tanisar, does the sacrifice itself need to happen in Tanisar?"
My guess is that "ossement" is the (un)dead equivalent of the Halovar's filament, which is harvested from a living celestial. The Tachonis, maybe, are making ossement by refining artifacts/remains from dead celestials, hence their interest in the stone and the coffin? Maybe "calcidian" is the unrefined version, or otherwise somehow used to make the "calcidial prosthesis"? These are all bones words, so I'm guessing they're connected, and the -ment suffix connects it with filament for me. The obelisk is the Apotheotic Obelisk, which connects the concept of an apotheon to the deva ritual.
"The Halovars have proven a dead end. Some inherent power of their sorcery immunizes them against the procedure."
I read this as evidence that filament and ossement are inverses of each other. Putting ossement into a Halovar, or otherwise doing the procedure, doesn't work because they're immune due to the filament - which seems different from what happened to Tertia.
"Final experiment a partial success, but largely failure. It is my opinion that Tertia's innate gifts and connection to the Tenebral Reaches thwarted the grafting of the calcidial prosthesis. I will miss her dearly."
So Halovars don't work at all, and it's the opinion of this lord that the fact of Tertia being a sorceress at all made the experiment fail.
Which brings me back around to Julien: if they need a person to serve as the apotheon for the creation of the Deva Vindicta, and they need them to not be a sorcerer, and they need them to be swamped with a burning desire for vengeance, who's a better choice? They seem to have tried a Halovar before they tried a Tachonis, so they'd prefer someone from outside their circles - i.e., a Davinos is better than a Seramai. Julien is potentially the most well-known knight of any vassal house, given his work in the Rebellion, and is publicly known to be something adjacent to vengeful in nature, given his relationship to Thjazi.
I know this is a huge swing, and I think it's honestly too complicated and centers Julien too much to be the real plot, but it's fun to think about. It would also give Julien a deeper tie in to the lore questions, if he becomes some sort of partial-celestial OR if the procedure goes sideways because he's cursed, and it would give him reason to reevaluate his relationship with vengeance if it's also tied to Tachonis plotting.
I mean, it’s possible that Julien was intended as a backup incase this experiment failed too, right? To make a celestial you need the most valuable resources, the gods special people. People of the noble houses.
What is a Deva? It’s a messenger and a servant, they prefer to deliver messages at the end of their swords and their most prominent trait is absolute loyalty to their gods and their values.
So, it’d make sense, if to make a Deva of Vengeance, Revenge, Vindictiveness, in this setting, you’d need the heart of a priest (Halovar, Tachonis, ect) and the body of a loyal, vengeful knight, yeah?
Maybe that’s why the knight in Timmony Knew about Occtis, and the one that the seekers have didn’t. Because they DID sacrifice a Seramia for the latest ritual, they needed at least one branch of that family in on it so they had the Body. They’d sacrificed one of theirs and that’s why they knew. That might also be what the Statues Collecting is about. Collecting resources for different rituals that require Paladins or the faithful or something? Or for a third component we don’t now about yet.
Julien might have been a contingency plan, incase of failure, so they had a back up body for the next try if their useless fucking son didn’t work. Which would make Julien a potential target once they find the next victims for the next try. My guess is? We’ll either meet a non-sorcerer Tachonis cousin during the Schemers turn and they will get snatched, or it’s found out that one of Wic’s siblings isn’t a sorcerer and THEY become a target as a way of attaching Wic even more closely to the Big Plot.
We also need to remember the source of the info in regard to why the Halovars don’t work. The Tachonis don’t know the specifics of that families fucked up goings on. Only One bloodline in that family has angel ancestry to provide their magic. The Tachonis likely assume all the members from the house get their magic from the same source but they DON’T. If they took one of Wic’s cousins or uncles, they don’t have angelic ancestry. They do have Demons, though. Remember, the house has an arrangement with the house to get Souls. It’s possible that the reason that the graft didn’t take was because the soul that heart represented was already marked for a devil and thus not valuable as a component for this ritual. The bone couldn’t graft to a soul that was marked for the pit, and the Tachonis just assumed it was something in their sorcery after a few tries because they don’t know what’s actually happening in that fucked up house.
I guess time will tell what the Tachonis learned from this lastest go and why it failed and how it alters and influences their actions.
