as a feminist i strongly believe that the patriarchy has affected both men and women. even if mysoginy is a much bigger issue, i totally agree that this emotionless standard held up for men is very nonsensical and harmful. however blaming a gay ship for "reinforcing toxic masculinity" is a huge stretch.

killugon has some solid semi-canon proof. i'm not unpacking all of it in this post, but do a tiny bit of research and it'll become evident to your eyes. the author's intention was not simple friendship, and the line between friendship and romance was purposefully blurred : until they come back, there is no way of knowing if this duo's ending will be ambiguous or explicitly romantic. but the subtext is here, like it or not. killua and gon's bond is something rarely seen in shounen. the vulnerability and sensibility both of these characters show is undeniably something very deep and both of their stories are intertwined. what you're doing here is actively blaming queer people for recognizing themselves in a queer story.

blaming a marginalised group of people for wanting representation while there are SO MANY depictions of healthy male friendship in media overall is extremely hypocritical. at the end of the day, the fans's perception does not "re-inforce" anything : what will happen in the actual manga does. shipping has always been a big part of fandom culture, and every fandom has it. what matters and what truly does re-inforce stereotypes is what the creators of big franchises decide to write.

if killugon becomes canon, it won't be "re-inforcing toxic masculinity", it will be a wonderful depiction of young queer love between two boys in a shounen, which is undeniably ground-brealing lgbtq representation.

honestly, the concept of ships/fandoms having a time limit for how long they're loved is such a new gen thing... a few months is NOTHING.
